good old respraying,

friends r31 we are sanding back/bogging/derusting etc atm

got paint/thinners/harders already for it

paint is 2pac

basically, to spray the outside only of the car (no door jam's, engine bay etc) whats the damage going to be $$$ wise for the labour to spray it? any ideas/recommendations?

also for the panels that are still perfect, how far back should they be sanded, should it all be taken back to bare metal, or just to the undercoat? just knock off the clear coat (or the little thats left of it)?

How much of the car?

Are you doing things like the inside of the boot/ under the bonnet/ door sills etc?

Is it just an external respray?

:jump: :) seriously.....

in two pac .. i think roughly depending who u go to ..anywhere from 650 to a 900 as your doing all the work.. or if u can find a little asian backyarder that doesnt speak english all that well like i know of and he'll do it for 400 lol :freak:

thats just a rough idea. . i'm not 100% cluey on this kinda of stuff .. but last i remember anyways it was around that mark .. i think :(

spraying my entire car in the BA Ford Phantom Purple (including door jams engine bay etc) was around $800 for the paint/materials. All the prep was done in the backyard :)

And if i can remember, we sanded the car to the original undercoat (tryed to anyway!) we still had spots of the burgundy paint but we did the best we could, but it was okay because we had to do a undercoat, base coat, then the colour. It turned out schmick.

Just get a few quotes from different places.

aaahahahahaha!

Yeah that's what i get for jumping on the computer before i've had a coffee in the morning...

You'll need to get as much of the clearcoat off as possible.

Keep a can of primer handy while you're sanding... if you go back to metal, hit it with the primer.

heres what i would be doing.....dry sand the whole car with a machine with 240 carefully feathering chips and scratches then high fill the whole thing let it sit for a week or so then spray a guide coat black over it and wet rub with 400-600 and if its metallic finish off with 800 wet

Hope that helps

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
