Its the leak yes, It happed to me before...

What it is that, where steering arm located it has Plasric/rubber cover is torn at the top.

It possibley make some kind of winding noise if you try to turn the steering wheel.

check your fluid tank and the rubber.plastic sleeve cover on steering arm.

even resiviour is full if there is leak on the top of the steering arm sleeve.

if your power steering resiviour bubble when car is stationary or not(turning). means there is leak some where.... ( my guess would be those one of steering arm rubber/plastic covers.

Run your fingers over them (squizze them) to check for leaks.

also if mechanic is the only option can someone make a recomendation?

Hey, i have the same problem, just yesterday the HICAS sign decieded to pop up, in the past all i had to do was top up the fluid! but not time time :) mine doesnt make any sound thou !! fluid is fine doesnt bubble so im hopeing its just a leak?? should put it up on the ramps go have a look!

I noticed this grinding noise the other day whilst parking my R32 gts.. under the fluid resivouir i notice there's alot of dirty fluid where it looks as its been leaking (i've been topping it up).. i'm putting the car on the hoist tommorow to check the suspension anyway, so while i'm there i'm going to drain the ps fluid and check all the hoses

The sleeve which is called a rack boot does not seal the fluid.

The rack seal stops fluid coming out of the housing. If there is any fluid inside that boot then the seal is broken. The boot only stops dirt from getting inside to where the seal is.

    • Thanks Mate, I did know you could do that but i know there is a pump out there that you can bolt on and it all lines up. I was told about it and then forgot the model, I figure if i am pulling it apart i will just put a new one on
    • You can also remove the veins from the HICAS portion of your existing pump.
