No-one in Canberra sells then. Ring Mercury Motorsports (www.mecurymotorsports.com.au I think it is) thats who I get mine off. They do a trade style deal, they send you the pads and an express envelope, you send your old pads back (as Race Brakes reuse backing plates to keep costs down).

Can I ask why youre after RB74's? They throw a heap of dust, if youve got slotted rotors they make a god awful grinding noise, but if you can live with those two downfalls, once you get some heat into them, they pull up f##king awesome!!!

i have heard the opposite :) seeing as how i aint going to be doing any track days but still enjoy some spirited driving and have DBA 4000 slotted rotors everyone has said they should be fine eg previous posts on the site trent from mercury even recommended them ??? others have said they have low brake dust in comparison to the ultimates and less fade (not that i will probably have to many issues with this) in regards the the squeeling havent heard that either :) but i am sure any brake pads that you dont bed in properly will squeel. i think i will still get these and give them a try.

They dont squeal, they make a grinding noise on the slots. I have a set of DBA4000's and RB74's and if you brake heavily, they will make a grinding noise as the slot "cuts" into them. I dont know how much dust Ultimates throw, but I cleaned the car yesterday, did a bit of "spirited" braking last night, and the front wheels are covered in dust again... maybe I just notice it more because theyre white.

Dont let the above things scare you though, they are an -awesome- pad and I wouldnt run anything else anymore. Small sacrifice to pay (with noise and dust) for the shitloads extra performance they have over the EBC Greenstuff that was in there.

EDIT: Oh also with regards to fade, if youre running a good brake fluid then the hotter you get the brakes, the better they keep working.

good point about the brake fluid had better look into that no point doing half the job and yea i was basically tossing up between ultimates, rb74, greenstuff

ultimates seemed to take a major beating from people on the forums for their brake dust which i know will shit me after a while

rb74's less brake dust + great stopping power

greenstuff similar to rb74's except another $80 - $100 + heard they cause more rotar wear than some of the others but i guess thats just a trade off for more stopping power.

so yea thats mainly why i am going with the rb74's + positive feedback i can live with a bit of squealge it's annoying but if it stops me those few extra meters i think i can live with it :)

Last time I had my RB74's in I did 90+ laps at Wakefield Park and absolutely hammered them and I wouldn't say that my wheels were very dirty at all for the amount of braking I did that day.

I'm using the DBA4000 Slotted and they don't squeel at all (but they do after the trackday, think I need to re-bed them in).

I've actually put standard nissan pads back in the front since my last trackday just for the short trips around town. I find it takes a solid 2 good stops (60-80 to 0km/h) to get the RB74's up to temperate and biting.

In regards to the 'grinding'. Yes I think I understand what you are saying however I only notice that when they are up to temperature and at low speeds (<50km/h to 0km/h). It's just when the pad is really biting and gripping which I don't consider a bad thing.

I have 2 bottles of Castrol SRF600 (or something like that) in use and yes I find that the more I punish my brakes (RB74 pads) the better and more solid they get. I found that on the track when i'd back off for a lap or 2 just to let the temperatures drop my pedal would go very spongy but as soon as I got back up to speed the pedal came good and solid again (DBA4000 Slotted front and back, front braided lines, brand new master cylinder, brace).

I spoke to RaceBrakes after my last trackday and they said that they have a pad available that is 1 step above the RB74's for use on the tracks which I think I might get before my next trackday.

    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
    • You think its the AFM? I know its a common issues on R32s. I find it coincidental how this issue raised right after cleaning the fuel system. As everything except the fuel system was fine before. I tried running it with the IACV unplugged but did not notice a difference and still stalled. However, the RPM gauge is not in the cluster right now, so I will need to connect the laptop again and use Nistune to check the RPM. I will check this weekend.
