Hi everyone,

The clutch in my R33 has started to slip. I am now in search of a new kit. Can anyone recommend a particular brand they have used and where they purchased it from, price etc. I am also interested in a lightened flywheel, has anyone had any experience with flywheels.

Thanks in advance.

I fitted a lightened flywheel, HD pressure plate and ceramic disc to the RB25DET before I planted in my GTS4. Got the setup from Adelaide Brake & Clutch, in Thebarton (?). Was a bit over $1G.

And the whole lot came in "10rwkw pink" anodising LOL.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it.

However, was the set-up available off the shelf or did they have to order the parts in for you?

By the way how does it go now with the lightened fly wheel??

Walked in, said I wanted a set for a RB25DET, walked out with a set for a RB25DET.

Difficult to tell how it goes with the lighter flywheel. I had never had the engine running with a standard flywheel (it was an upgrade, and the engine was from an outo anyway). But it doesn't seem to have any problem when the engine is running, or anything.

Just as an F.Y.I. I'm using a O.S.Giken Twin Plate ( which comes with a lightened flywheel ) and it's pretty good for all around use. Can't remember what they cost now but I think they're around the $1,800 mark. You really need to know what you want to do with the car and how much power you plan to push through the clutch. Once you've got that, you can find what you need / can afford.

On the topic of clutches, I also had the pleasure of driving an R32 GT-R with an ATS Carbon Clutch and I have to say it was amazing !! Pedal feel / pressure was just off stock and slip's a little under full power when cold but when warm, grips perfectly and you can drive it ( slip it ) just like a factoy clutch. Plaganis, if money's not an option, would highly recommend an ATS !!

Thanks for that information FAT32, $1800.00 is really stretching the budget but it's always good to know what's available. I think I will opt for a heavy duty or brass-button clutch, retail around $600.00 + installation. As for the flywheel I will check the condition and if need be get it machined. At the end of the day its all about dollars!!

    • HELP   Hey all, Is there an accelerator cable from another Nissan that can be used on the R33 GTST RB25DET with a Greddy forward facing plenum?  Thanks in advance  Rob
    • Or do we think it was installed to give 1 bar of boost max, all day, everyday?
    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
