I can now say I am the shittiest driver in the world...

Today took my old camry to service and organized a test drive with the new camry (they gave some crappy 2.4L one thought) Took it anyway, and decided to go to the Monarto zoo (70km from city) with my girlfriend.

On the way there, I was just driving like 120kph on the highway... almost overtaking all the time with this other car... and yes I was in the O/T lane... until all of a sudden the car in front pulled to the left, and there's a dead koala on the road. I react like a wuss and swerved a little... traction on the FWD was lost temporarily, but I swear I almost pissed myself... yes laugh... but I just want to give a word of advice, always try to leave a distance so that you can see well ahead of you.

Later on, leaving the freeway to the monarto exit. I saw the "Reduce speed" sign alright.. so started to brake. Okay... the speed "felt" very slow.... but as I approach the end of the exit... I realise I was still at 80.... but I had to turn... so I braked.... and the wheels lock.... and skidded for about 10metres.... can will my faeces urging to rush out.... another advice, on highway/freeway exits watch your speeds! in my case, I didn't know how the car would handle. I assume it was like my other old 3L camry... but this one is heavier and no ABS... so I made a deadly mistake not knowing the cars capability.

Four big mistakes in one day.... felt lucky that I am alive.

Most people don't have my problems, but I think I pose an example of how not to drive on highway/freeway. Hope people can learn from my mistakes too.

Yeah, I thought all camelry has ABS as well, give that its a family car, but I was able to make the wheels lock easy, or doesn't ABS work well at high speeds? Skidding sideways is fun and scary at the same time for me though....

My mums camry handles alright, rolls a little less than others as its a touring edition, but I also put some avs tyres on them....

    • Bit difficult to follow. Have a look below and see what the standard R32 layout was like. Note there was a restrictor in place immediately before "turbocharged pressure control solenoid" that, if removed, magically got you 1 bar boost.
    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
