Thought a total format would wipe worms and such, as for error logs i did read them but really there was nothying there i could interpret as being non windows related, and b4 xp, update did nothing but update and, updates weren't from MS, but i can see the error in thinking that would make a difference. and you are convincing me that an instructor would bullsite a class of students but wonder why.

Some members here are probably wondering how I could sprout such rubbish and be believable, I'll tell you a story and make up your own minds.

we_really_liked_your_little_story.jpg

You're still talking crap. You really should quit while you are ahead. Well, not so much ahead, but before you get too much further behind.

I hope you are a better fitter/welder than you are MCP :S

No I am saying the instructor has been fed bullshit and is passing it on himself.

remember

"Those who can ... do!

Those who can't ... teach!"

Very true, guess it's never going to hurt Microsofts bank account to scare people into handing over their cash for something which can be had for free, or so I hear

A format would wipe most nasties, but it is not guaranteed a fresh start. The cleanest method, short of a low level format is to boot from a floppy do an fdisk of the MBR then perform the format with unconditional option. Do they even teach what a MBR is in MCP? A piece of paper does not automatically mean you know the product inside and out. :P

I dont think the teacher would bullshit a class, but I would dare say not a single teacher is able to pass on all his/her knowledge to everyone they teach. :)

mcp 2000 has reference towards mbr but does not go into detail (i studied Sybex books)

doing cert IV and dip in IT should cover it but these 2 certs are over rated now that everyman and his dog can do them at tafe and then think they know everything

[slide] No cant remeber Specific leture on MBR and cbf looking through notes so yeah could be mbr but would a format in dos and then ntfs from cd eliminate it?

One more thing, I have implied that I know that combo but I don't,

Hrmm.. perhaps you should google what a master boot record (MBR) is to understand what it is and its purpose/function. As it varies between operation systems and would differ between operation systems. I first learn it based on information I gather while learning different type of viruses (yes I was curious...).

Modr33s2, formating does not put in a new MBR so any information on it is still there. NTFS from cd (I am assuming you meant re-install from cd) , I am not sure if it would even plaster in a new MBR I wouldn't think it would. The install process would most likely would read the existing MBR then append or modify it accordingly.

Slide.. I'm not sure your cert IV course would cover it. The BIT I did at Griffith 5 years ago certainly didnt cover it in detail. One of the subject only cover as far as what it is in a generic term, which is ok to start with I guess.

Sorry.. think I'll shuddarp in this thread now. :P I would explain more if you guys are interested, just dont want to come across as a know it all which I ain't. Still am learn new things everyday. :)

ERM

i wernt explaining anything

im just stating that mcp didnt cover crap to do with the MBR

Cert IV is a peice of paper aswell and doesnt mean shit that is what i meant by everyman and his dog being able to get it. But being a cert i had to get it

Cert IV (the real non tafe cert IV) and Dip in it goes a little bit into it but strays more towards boot sector viruses.

    • Really, anyone modifying a car isn't being financially smart. We're doing it for the things we love. And honestly, a high revving, light, NA car is actually pretty darn fun. I used to have a Swift Sport, and I miss that thing as a daily, and yes, doing something like some intake and exhaust stuff would have made minimal gains, but would have bought an even bigger smile

    • Yeah, playing with naturally aspirated is not smart bang for your buck power wise, but then I've never been known for being smart when it comes to cars and modifications
    • I mean from V8 world there are gains to be made in intakes and such over stock items, but definitely only if you tune them. We're talking about I dunno, 10kw here and there on a 300KW v8, gains made by tuning in the 0.2 AFR that it changes so YES but also no you won't notice it other than the sound. Duct the air as mentioned 750,000 times and you will notice happier IAT's which definitely make a difference N/A. I mean my unsubstantiated guess is you'd go from 140kw with everything stock (after cams) to 145kw with everything and a tune :p
    • I decided to "spend baby spend", and "risk it for the biscuit" 2 Orders were made buying parts that I "don't really need but really really want" totalling $2.5k AUD 1: In stock items (intake plenum and throttle body) 2: The airbox thingie, with no real ETA for them getting more stock, so patience will be required
