Recommended Posts

Hey guys what would be better value for money, actually what would be better? fitting a apexi safc 2 or having a chip designed for my mods??

mods will be:

3" turbo back exhaust

rb25 turbo

16psi

walbro pump

fmic

kn pod filter

and fuel cut defender if needed

^^^^ I'm with not so stupid.

SAFC only does fuel maps (so to speak)

I belive the Chip allows for timing changes as well.

Speak to TOSHI from these forums.

Many people have used him with great results.

Very good pricing too.

PS: 16psi on rb25 turbo hey...

Starts taking bets on how long till it go kaBLAAAMOOO

trevvy: please forgive me for hijacking but u just posted what i was goin to post...

can anyone give any insight on a unichip compared to a safc II? both can be had at the same price (roughly). safc can only do fuel whilst unichip can do fuel and timing.. are they worth it ... i want roughly a 15+ kw gain ..

edit: i heard toshi also does a remap/daughterboard for r34? anyone have any experiences? i'm interested as i want to get it tuned by the top secret guy coming to australia mid May

reason why i'm not goin powerfc is due to my car being a tiptronic

if I was to choose between unichip and SAFC2 cause they were the same price, I'd choose the unichip.

as you said, timing can be controlled.

I know TOSHI was able to to R33 ecu's.. didn't know about R34's.

I thought the UNICHIP would be worth more than the SAFC2.

apparently u can run more boost thru the rb25 turbo on the rb20 because it isnt flowing as much air to create the same boost, big thread on it i will find it tonite

thanx for the prompt replies

this is good i was thinking about getting a SAFC2 real soon but how hard is it to tune??

Have a read of the Jaycar IEBC and DFA thread in the Stagea section, the DFA is pretty similar to the SAFC.

I still wouldn't push it past 1 bar.

1bar on the track would be pushing it though.

I know of a R32 RB25 turbo pushing 14psi that made 190rwkw.

Chipped ecu, Blitz SBC-iD EBC, Pod, FMIC, 3" Exhaust.

I could live with that! :) hehe

For a street car, go with the chip.

There is not much that cant be altered.

eg.

LEVEL 1: speed cut change/eliminate, rev limit change, boost cut change/eliminate.

LEVEL 2: fuel map adjustment, ignition map adjustment.

LEVEL 3: rpm scale adjustment, load scale adjustment (for higher boost levels).

LEVEL 4: injector size re-scaling, AFM re-sizing.

Its all do-able, if you can fit an eprom!

Yes, the injector latency (sometimes called void blast off time) can be adjusted.

This is part of the issue with the 550cc RX7 injectors, the other is they may not be exactly 550cc/min. Hence, the injector setup parameter may need to be further tweeked for 'best fit'. It may take a few trys but do-able.

Can the SAFC2 do the following:

1. speed cut change/eliminate

2. rev limit change

3. boost cut change/eliminate.

4. And is it possible to have both the chip and safc2 on board?

Suggestions follow;

1. No

2. No

3. No such thing as "boost cut", there is protection from excessive airflow. AFM voltage benders such as SAFC, DFA. EManage etc can be tuned to lower the AFM voltage signal to the ECU. Hence it doesn't know about the excessive airflow.

4. Yes.

Hope that was of some help:cheers:

It feels like basically you guy's are saying the SAFC2 is useless, What kinda gains can be had with one does any one hare have some real experiance with them?

What gains/losses have been seen. Cause lets face it they are a much cheaper alternative to aftermarket EM.

( I know that aftermarket EM offers alot more control and tunability but 1500 to 2000 for supply fit and tune, Compared with 500ish you can see why there would be a market for it, ( If there are gains to be had.))

I have an SAFC2 in my car (series 1 R33) i got my timing and the SAFC2 tuned and only 1 psi boost increase resulted in 36KW at the wheels increase. But to get the SAFC2 running properly without fuel cutting they had to install a FCD.

Take a look at my dyno graph. Note the dyno graph is just to show the increase its not what my car is actually making at the moment. Cheers

I regret going to flex fuel and all the headaches associated with DBW with cruise etc....a miss the simplicity of Power Fc   I make enough power that I should have just gone back to 98 but...anyway Turns out with the std inlet I cant really go any bigger than 60mm DBW so wasnt able to play with that aspect of the update.
