Now we've got the whole digital camera thing happening, we have heaps of images that we need to resize, normally smaller.

Even things like shrinking them to avatar size, the images always get blurry.

So, q. is, whats a good tool to resize images downwards, is it possible to keep the images sharp?

Get a prgoram called ACDsee its great for resizing lots of images at once.

By reducing the resolution you are throwing away image data so your going to loose quality but the counter act this try using the least amount of compresion you can, the best method is just trail and error.

You should try using the demo on Paint shop Pro 7 or even MS Photo Editor.

Usually when shrinking images (the dimensions not the file size) they become sharper because you have the same amount of info in a smaller area, hence increasing the resolution. Usually this will not drop the file size by very much if at all.

The other way is to lose some quality, but because you have shrunk the dimensions down, again it shouldn't make a difference on the visable quality unless you zoom in. In fact many movies on the internet - think porn or drift :) - are in piss small dimensions, not because it saves on file size, but it allows them to chop out more data (that is what reduces the file size)without it affecting how it looks.

Basically if you have a semi decent program (there are many freeware and cheap ones out there), you shouldn't have a problem with resizing images. Try znet or cnet or download.com

Sorry to go on, probably more then you wanted, but anytime you need to be bored I'm your man.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks for your help guys. I've downloaded ACDSee and will give that a whirl coz its named after australia's greatest band.

Yes, I was trying to reduce the resolution, not the actual size in bytes of the file, eg. to turn 640x480 into 100x100 for an avatar.

In comparison the Skyline and Sierra look like they understeer more and thus need more heavier steering inputs...?
