Ok, I've read a number of threads regards fuel pumps and flow rates, in-tank, in-line etc. and the more info I get, the more confused I have become.

Here is the situation - I have just completed a rebuild which should see somewhere approaching 700bhp (flywheel). I currently have a standard GTR pump. I am about to install 700cc injectors. I do a reasonable amount of track work in the car.

From what I understand, there are not too many in-tank pumps that would support these horsepower numbers. Similarly, if they did, it could end up swirling the fuel and dragging air anyway, irresepctive of the surge potential.

I have been told I should go to a surge tank for the fuel and am looking at mounting one under the rear of the car (quieter and no fuel smell)

Questions are -

1. What size in tank pump should I be using for the lift.

2. What size in-line pump should then be used.

3. Who sells up-side-down surge tanks

1. The biggest you possibly can get. Having said that, most in-tank low pressure high volume pumps will easily flow enough to keep the surge tank full.

2. Bosch 044 or two smaller ones.

3. Make your own out of a bit of 4 inch stainless pipe, weld a top and bottom to it and put some fittings on.

    • How dare you sell your unreliable Skyline and buy a reliable, Toyota/Yamaha car with a strong gearbox, torsen LSD and Toyota reliability. At least you won't need to worry about oil pumps, big catch can, oil restrictors, blowing off power steering belts, sheering off 3rd gear, failing ABS relays/pumps, etc.

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline.     • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
