just trying to take off my intake pipe so i can get to the sparkies under the cam cover... and one of the bolts on the intake pipe wont come out so i cant remove the pipe!

screwdriver a million times, doesn't come out...

ratchet a million rotation, doesn't come out...

pliers, twist and pull up, doesn't come out...

the screw will turn, but it doesn't come out!!! it just turns and turns forever...

looking underneath the screw, the teeth of the shaft look perfect so i dont understand why its not coming out...

im getting pissed at this bloody screw, but im gonna stop before i lose the entire head of the screw...

any ideas how to get it out!?

Guest Boxhead

it could be a little rust that is stickin inside the the nut...

my grandfather(ex mechanic) tought me this, tap it with a hammer, not too hard but a half decent way.. maybe a couple of times, then use wd40 with the extender part to try and get it inside were it screws in.. let it sit . then try again

coco69,

Sounds like the thread has stripped, have you tried using a flat blade screwdriver under the head (or the intake pipe) and twist to produce a upward pressure on the head (if you can get it under the head) at the same time as you try to undo it?

might work!

yeh, thanx for the replies guys...

tried both really...

tapped it lightly and greased it...

and also been wedging the screw upwards and pulling it up while twisting... doesn't budge... just keeps on turning and turning...

bought a screw extractor kit for like 9 bucks...

but gonna hafta drill thru the screw, so it'll wait till tomorow. :(

coco69,

Screw extractors only work when the screw/bolt/stud head is broken off they weren't designed for what you wan't to do! as they are only a means to grip and turn the screw/bolt/stud anti clockwise which you don't seam to have any problem doing by the sounds of it! But you still might have to drill the old screw out and then tap a new thread!

mega, i thought screw extractors also cause the screw to climb up the extractor bit as its turned anticlockwise?

i get what you mean, i dont wanna open up the kit if its not gonna work, otherwise i can't return it and get my money back... hmmm...

bloody RB's with their gay intake pipes over the cam cover!!!!!!!

this is the only time in my life i actually wish i had gay 4cyl sr20... bloody intake pipe... >:(

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
