Howdy ppl....

I thought i'd ask before i go and try pull everything apart:

The button lights on the left hand side of my climate control dont seem to be working. That is the MODE, A/C, "FAN", "Temp Down".

Can these lights be changed? Is it simply a matter of taking off the dash facia and then popping off the Climate Control facia?....If so, what globes/led's will i be needing?

Cheers

EDIT: Sorry its a R33 GTST

They can be changed - quite easily! If you remove the whole control unit, you'll find little circular plates in the back with a flat head indentation on them.

Twist these 1/4 turn anti-clockwise, and they should pop out. Each one holds a tiny globe (grain of wheat globe, is what Jaycar/DSE will know them as) and you just need to replace these.

Only prob is each globe has a blue rubber cap over them to give that blue/green tinge instead of yellow incandescent light. These get brittle with the heat of the globe over the years and will be impossible to remove intact. You might be able to get a replacement cap (hopefully silicone so they will come off next time) at the same place you get the globe.

I see.....

Except i dont get one lil bit...when you talk about the circular plates in the back....u mean actually inside the unit? So do i need to open the unit up / pull it apart?

I read the thread linked by midnight. Have just replaced the bulbs with the "grain of wheat ones from Dick Smith.

Cost was $2.50 for a pair.

1. Take the control unit out

2. Undo the two bulbs with a quarter turn

3. Unwrap the thin wire holding the bulb to the holder that makes the actual "contact"

4. Carefully push a toothpick under the blue condom and roll it around the bulb to separate the rubber from the bulb.

5. Reverse order for new bulbs.

Simple. (Although on the one pictured I left a tiny bit of the blue rubber on the old bulb. I managed to get it off completely intact with the other one.)

Look closely and you can see the wire wrapped around the base of the holder. (This is the replacement globe in place)

Enjoy!
