hey ..well today ive "installed" a GFB manual boost controller and a boost guage ..

prob is weather the boost is turned all the way down or up shows no difference on the guage.

the max it shows on the guage is 0.4bar (5.6psi if my maths is right) pretty shitty!!

Boost control install..

1)i unplugged the 2 pipes from the standard solenoid

2)removed the T piece

3)replaced the pipe from the intercooler with the pipe that comes with the boost

controller (in case of standard restictor in the pipe)

4)basically put the boost controller in place of the T piece with the arrow facing towards the turbo

5)put a large screw in the end of the other pipe that originally went to the standard boost solenoid.

is this right?

Boost Guage install

1) found the nipple at the back of the intake plenum

2) the clear pipe didnt fit (to small) so i cut the end of the black rubber cover and used that join the nipple and clear pipe (slid the clear pipe in and butted the nipple and pipe together)

4) fed through the firewall and tested

Is it possible that due to my connection it may leak pressure at anything above 0.4bar and therefor not read anything higher?

There doesnt appear to be any improvement in performance tho so im thinking its prob more the boost controller

any advice would be appreciated thanx

Lee

Hi Lee, check the conection to the wastegate actuator. As per your other post, it looks to me like you have different connection to the wastegate actuator. The circuit should be like this;

I'C pipe------->Bleed valve-------->Wastegate actuator

 cheers :(

Hey SK, cheers for the quick response

yeah its intercooler ----> bleed valve------> wastegate actuatator...

*scratches head*

no factory restrictors in place and the arrow is pointing towards the turbo

could it be the wastegate stuck or something along those lines?

Hi Lee, stuck open wastegate actuator......hmmm......unlikely. Easy to check, give it a push with your finger. Or grab the vacuum pipe to the wastegate actuator and give it a blow, you can see the wastegate actuator lever move.

You should also check the bleed valve the same way (give it the blow through test). Make sure it is bypasing some airflow as you adjust it.

:) cheers :)

I am not sure what a GFB unit looks like, but on my 'Powerup MBC' I followed the instructions and had the same problem of not getting more then the standard boost. After stuffing around for a while connecting different hoses, I eventually took the MBC off and blew through the nipples while opening and shutting the valve, only to find that it worked the opposite way to the instructions. So if you blow thru the right connector you will feel a variation as you open and shut the valve and if you blow thru the wrong end it will have the same level of restriction no matter what position the valve is in.

My motor is a NEO and it has a three way T piece (with no built in restrictions): 1 - pressure in. 2- exit to the wastegate and 3 - exit to the solenoid. This 3rd hose going into the solenoid then has another hose going to the air intake pipe - this seems to me to be how the system controls the amount of pressure the wastegate sees by bleeding it off thru the solenoid. So all I did was pull the two pipes off the solenoid and attach them to the MBC (only opposite to the factory instructions) as per my blow test and whammo - variable boost.

cheers guys!! definatley worth a shot, i'll try that tonight if thats the prob could be a really good point for others to be aware of.

The pipe that normally goes to the standard boost solenoid (not the one from the T-piece) is the pipe that we put a screw into isnt it?? just checking but im sure the pipes are right

hahaa i just gotta laugh now, cos of the boost guage im now installing a single din head unit to make room for the guage underneath .. the aerial on the factory deck is nothing like a normal aerial, no matter what i try i cant get my circuit tester to light up to show me the positive and ignition hahaha.

excellent tutorial by alexcim on how to remove the head unit

Cheers guyz

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
