  1. Hello fella's. I got an RB25 Pull Type transmission mated to my RB30 and was told that there are no short shifters for it. Is that true? The OEM shifter travel is schoolbus-like! Any help on this would be appreciated. Cheers, Sam
  2. Sorry for bumping an old thread, but a vendor sent me RB26 ACL main bearings for my RB30 by mistake. The diameter is the same but my understanding is that the RB26 one is 0.8mm wider and that it has more oil holes (better cooling/lubrication?) Should I send these back or do I just stick them into my RB30?
  3. She still doesn't sound 100% right. I discovered there was no IAT sensor hooked up which is probably why the ignition timing is all over the place. Will secure that and see how the engine responds. Until then.. enjoy
  4. Much cheaper, a VQ twin turbo kit from GTM is $8000 alone, and that's without shipping to the UAE or labor or supporting mods. An MT transmission swap will upset the OEM ECU. And after all that, I'm still stuck with a high compression engine (11:1) that would be like a ticking time bomb. And besides, the RB engine is a lot more fun! I'll be going with a Standalone ECU by Adaptronic.. Jebal Hafeet will get a share of my tires that's for sure! Yup someone real good and an Aussie too! Yup, OEM 26 head that's been machined and brought back to OEM condition
  5. Hey guys, So to keep it short, got bored of the VQ and its slush box, the engine's compression is too high to boost reliably without selling a kidney, and on top of all, the VVEL will forever be a bottle neck on this engine. Solution: RB30 swap Picked up an RB30E bottom end, cast iron block, long stroke, with enough torque to move the G around, mated to an RB26 and an RB25 pull type gearbox since I will be keeping her a RWD. To this point, we got the following: RB26 head & RB30 block, waiting on head bolts, gaskets and cam belts RB25 Pull Type gearbox A snail crawling around in my living room... (GT35 Compressor mated to a T04 turbine 090 trim) RB26 Intake Manifold RB26 Exhaust Manifold VH45DE 90mm throttle body, mechanical throttle FTW! Update: 26-11-2012 Gasket kit, head bolts and tensioner kit have arrived and have been dropped off at the shop. Aiming to start stripping down the G on Saturday! The manifolds were just held against the head to measure clearances from wheel well, we may have to re-route the wastegate pipe. Intake side should not be a problem Update 28-11-2012: The head has been sent for porting, polishing and final prep work before getting fitted back in. The block is getting painted and drilled for the tensioner. In the meantime, this showed up at work today: 3.5" intercooler and an Oil Catch Can. Update 03-12-2012: Engine and head are finally ready! Car has been dropped off today to begin surgery. Here's what all the head covers and pulleys look like so far Update 06-12-2012 Engine test fitting began and it is looking great so far! The intake manifold inlet will he have to be slightly modified to fit the throttle body due to limited space The turbo side however is a tight fit The wastegate pipe is a little too close for comfort too, may have to be modified as well. No so sure yet. It is looking great so far! Update 08-12-2012: The following pictures will not be easy for the weak-hearted . . . . . . . . . . . . . Doesn't that shifter look like it just belongs there? Well it wasn't work of magic though, the transmission will have to be pushed around 26mm away from the engine to get the shifter position where it belongs. A spacer will be made to sit between the engine and transmission housing. The flywheel will also have to be pushed by that same amount. You can see the tiny spacers currently being tested. Since the transmission's cross member will be slightly relocated, some new holes had to be made The crank case also wanted a share of the action, it wouldn't fit properly around the engine's cross member so it had to be modified. The mechanic suggested he will be test fitting an RB25 crank case as it may be easier to work with, let's see how that goes. Transmission alignment in progress The wastegate pipe continues to pester around, this time around the steering column. The mechanic says the engine is not 100% aligned yet, once done it will move further away from the steering column. Stay tuned for updates!!
  6. Great article Bob, thanks for sharing that. Not sure if there's room under my car tbh, and I don't want to start butchering my trunk yet BTW, can in tank fuel pumps be used as exterior ones later on if I want to convert them into a surge tank setup?
  7. You're definitely getting some great deals man. May I ask where you guys normally install your surge tanks? Another reason I stayed away from it was that many told me you get a lot of fuel smell in cabin?
  8. $165 (US) a piece. I couldn't justify it for some reason since this will be a 95% street car. I wasn't sure where I'd mount my surge tank either.
  9. I ended up going with a pair of in tank Aeromotives. Let's see how it goes!
  10. I'm not sure yet because this will replace the factory fuel pump on my G37. Will have to check how it's wired but I do remember seeing a relay box under my hood with fuel pump written on it. 98 RON Oh wow, and that's a very high flowing pump. Looks like I'm going to rock two of them then. Do you keep me posted with your learning please. The thing is, it's never been done on a G37 before, so I'm not sure how everything will play out. Let's see. My tuner recommended me against Walbro, is the 415lph any good? Guess I'll have to look into it then. Thanks for all your help fellas
  11. Hello All, I've seen a few posts online were people recommended using two filters, a pre pump and a post pump. Is that really needed? And if so, what microns should one go with? Cheers, Sam
  12. Hey mate, are you still selling your intank bosch 044? I wonder if this will fit in a G37s tank.
  13. Hello All, I'm building an RB26/30 with 1000cc injectors. Till what whp will I be ok with a single in tank 340LPH Aeromotive Fuel Pump? My tuner recommends I get two Bosch 044's instead however, these don't come with an in tank option, which would mean I'd have to look into a surge tank, which I don't currently want to do. Can I run an Aeromotive in tank 340 LPH in series with an external bosch 044 and get best of both worlds? Thanks in advance for your help. Sam
  14. Hi All, I know this topic has been probably beaten to death on this forum but all I find is contradicting opinions, I'd really appreciate your help before I buy a $1500 clutch and ship it two continents. Forgive my noobness please So, push or pull type? Cheers, Sam
  15. Great tip Hanaldo, I bought an RB25 gearbox from the salvage yard and the seller was clueless
  16. So I'm guessing the only reliable way of knowing is to check the slave cylinder location. A shop is telling me all R34's come with pull type, anything older is push type.
  17. Because the VQ can't handle boost without building the engine and swapping internals. So I figured I may as well swap both the engine and transmission.
  18. You got it, for now here are some pics of her: And my favorite shot of all times:
  19. Will do sir. At what stage do your recommend I start the build thread? I'm still ordering my parts. Cheers, Sam
