Apart from actually taking the cover no test really apart from putting your ear to it and also putting your hand on the cover. Mine actually went away when slightly reved so try that.

As for timing belt cost. The belt $100 The tensioner $90-100. And about 3 to 4 hours labour max. So anywhere from 50-70 roughly per hour. I would have gone somewhere else but the work shop just took it upon themselves to do the work then tell me it was ready. Oh yeah was told the timing belt is the same as a VL. But double check.

I was worried about buying my car too at the time so i took my mate who is a mechanic. He could only see the basics ie wierd noises, panel damage etc. Good idea to try and get somebody who actually knows about skylines because my friend didn't see a couple of things. EG the aircon belt was missing ended up costing 1000 for complete new system. And the timing belt soon after. Car had 60000km on it when i bought it but somehow dont believe it. As i said you did the right thing by getting an RACV check but if you know someone who knows about skylines get them to check it out.

I believe when he says drive belt i think he is relating to the timing belt.

I had a smillar noise on idle which came from the timing case. Took it some where and was told it was probably the belt. It did in fact work out to be the belt (timing belt) which was loose causing it to knock on the cover. They replaced the belt and tensioner and cost $500. Nearly asked for an ambulance mind you. F---in rip off.

Na he hasn't. I sent him a PM and he sold it yonks ago. I picked one up two weeks ago through firesport.com from a guy in Nth Melb for $400 brand spanker. He also had it advertised on the nissan silvia site too.

Yeah Spoke to Robyn when i rang and she was really nice. But could not better the quote even though i told her got a quote from JCI of $1050. Anyhow stuff that quote, did some futher shopping and got $736. HELLO SHOPPERS!!!!!!

Please explain. Was quoted $1300. Ok Asked if i could pay by the month they said this incurs an additional 10%. Ok that's pretty standard. But 1300 + 10%=1430. Ok they say they want 2 months up front to start of. I said fine so that will be 119 times 2=$238. They say no 1430 divide by 10 and times by two=286. I said would you not divide by 12 to obtain the monthly amount and they say no we dont do that. For what ever reason if you do it this way instead of 1430 for the year i would pay $1716 an extra 286 on top. I've said it before and i will say it again. Famous G.F.Y. ps go and do a maths class or two.

As previously stated in this thread the only positive that i can come up with for Famous is that they have pay by the month unlike JCI. That is all...................................

Got mine done at Premier at Coburg. Paid 250 for good quality tint or you can get the 100 dollar stuff but not recommended. Did the back darker than the rest and was told this was perfectly leagal. Overall did a good job but the guy was a bit of a Know all.

Rang them today and they said they never received it. So i did exactly the same thing again and oh what a suprise they got this one. Anyway they rung about 2 hours after receiving the online quote and the best they could do for me was $1300 compared to JCI of $1078. That's rating 1 no accidents 11 years driving. Now i would have to politely say to Famous GFY.. GO F**k Yourself.

Hi everybody. First of all i received my quote from JCI for $1078 not too bad. But the thing is that this only took 1 day. Where as famous received a requested quote the same day. Oh by the way this was a week ago. Customer service A+ NOT............................
