  6. Hey all This is comming up this weekend... Just a bit of a note for all the competitors... Make sure your car is ready to run.. please read the supp regs (which i have included the relevant parts below) I would just like to reiterate some common points that often get missed. Please make sure you have you fire extinguisher mounted using a METAL bracket... Make sure this metal bracket is BOLTED inside the car. NO Tech screws, cable ties, plastic screws etc. Please remove all loose items from your car, this includes center consoles and glove boxes. A handy tip is to put all the bits of crap floating around in you car into your helmet bag. Please make sure you engine has no oil leaks, make sure the oil is at the correct level Also make sure that your brake fluid and power steering fluid is at the correct level. Check your battery and coolant bottles are securely mounted (Proper brackets please, NO CABLE TIES) Make sure you bring your helmet with you to scrutineering, and make sure it has a relevant standards sticker on it (The acceptable standards are listed in the supp regs, and below) Make sure you read all of the supp regs thoroughly and make sure your car conforms to them. It's quite simple really, if your car does not comply, you will not be able to compete, and you will NOT get a refund Other than that, look forward to seeing you all there and hope everyone has a great time... MaT Supp regs info on Vehicles and Apparel 3. Vehicles  Cars presented to the scrutineer not ready for competition will be denied entry to the event.  Cars must be considered ‘roadworthy’ and will be subjected to an examination.(Scrutineering)  Tyres must be roadworthy to enter the road events on the DECA highway circuit.  Seatbelts must be fitted to the vehicle and must comply with the current Australian Standards.  All loose objects must be removed from the vehicle  Tyres other than designated road tyres (Slicks) may be used and times will be recorded but you will not be eligible for any awards  All vehicles must be equipped with a minimum 900gram fire extinguisher securely mounted inside the vehicle with a metal bracket. Extinguishers must comply with the Australian Standard – AS 1841 and not be more than five years old. 4. Apparel  Competitors must wear non-flammable clothing. Nylon clothing is not permitted. Shoes must be closed toe.  Helmets are to be worn whilst competing. All drivers must wear a helmet that complies with current Australian Standards. (AASA Standing Regulations Section 2.11 (b)) Safety helmet - being those with the following markings: i. AS1698 - Australian Standard ii. Snell SA95, M90, SA95, SA2000 - USA Standard iii. SFI Spec 31.1, 31.2, 31.1A. 31.2A - USA Standard iv. E22 (with 03, 04 or 05 amendments) - European Standard v. BS 6658-85 Type A and A/FR (including amendments) - British Standard  If competing in an open top vehicle Helmet with full face visor, or helmet with goggles.  Drivers of vehicles to which no windscreen is fitted shall wear adequate eye protection complying with current Australian Standard whilst competing
  7. For grouping I need to be with Ben Neale so I can laugh at him!
  8. heh yeah i have seen your times before.. Trust me i understand that GTR's are quick and have no problem with that... My only issue is that several GTR drivers seem to think that it is impossible for a RWD car to go fast.... I also remembered another car that runs good times.... Not sure who remebers that White Datsun 1600, stripped out etc. big alloy wing on the back. Was running a turbo Z18 motor with around 200-250rwkw if i remember right... It was running around sandown in 1:19's.... would have love to have know what times he pulled at other tracks. heh heh there is no hatred any where either... its all in good fun... In the end, we are not racing for sheep stations Beating PB's is the best goal to have i reckon... and is basically what i try and do... and hopefully embarress a few more expensive/ladida cars...
  9. I think you have still missed my point... being that sandown is not as much about power as you think it is... I could see this on saturday when you rocked up and did a practice session showing mick the ropes in your car so relatively taking it easy, bit of a cruise lap.. and got a 1:29 ( Your previous PB) And that you were absolutely mortified that it wasn't instantly faster than it was before becuase of your power gains... In wayz... as for weight... leigh's car was actually weighed the week leading up to sandown.. Leigh can confirm but i think it tipped the scales @ just over the 1000kg mark.. 1070kg if my memory is correct Someone can correct me if i am wrong... but i belive the 180sx to be around a 1250kg car... (thanks wikipedia) Minus all the interior and body deadening i would say yours could be down to around 1150kg 80kg is still 80kg.... but there is not that much in it i don't think.... Either way... the idea of a single track superlap is silly i think... if you want to sort out who has the best package overall... then you need some sort of championship held over several different tracks... haha hang on we already have that Hopefully I will have some time tomrrow night to finish of the results of said championship
  10. Are you sure this is not just because your car is not as fast as you expected @ sandown? There are cars with similar or less power than you, that have quicker times than you.. good example being all the dattos... Troy's, Cam's and Leigh is close also. Yes cam's is a IPRA race car but still it probably makes less power. and also (touching on what nick said about a IPRA car costing as much as VIC GTRs) I'm not so sure about that... yes the will have alot of money tipped into them in getting them competition ready roll cages & other stuff required to competitively race. But remember too that it is an Improved PRODUCTION class of racing. Which means you have to have the car in a fairly standard form. For example Cam's 1600 has standard Datsun running gear (give or take a few tweaks) suspension all has to be original mounting setups etc. Guess my point is... a car with possibly less power, and a more basic suspension setup is still faster than alot of other cars out there Not doubting that it still costs alot of money to setup... its motorsport... thats just how it works.. but i don't think the alot of the IPRA cars would be pushing some of the numbers that the GTR guys are, $$$ wise... Just my opinion though.. i can't really know that for sure. Any way don't get me wrong.. its quite evident how much difference power makes @ sandown. For example.. ryans times of 1.55 @ PI with 160odd rwkw... and a sandown time of 1:30.. and Firmans time in the 180B of 2:04 @ PI and 1:43 @ sandown. Both good times at PI... but comparitively not so good times at sandown. I just don't think power is the 'be all and end all' of sandown like ryan seems to. To me it just see this whole bagging out sandown times thing is a bit of a childish "I can't win so i'm changing the rules" moment.
  11. haha "those who dont value traction" or maybe those who actually have enough skill with there right foot to control the traction instead of running all scared and buying a GTR ?! This thread is classic... Love the stirring of the pot...
  12. I agree with this... The impression i get from this however is that GTR drivers assume that 4wd is necessary to go fast, no matter what car you are in. http://www.sandown.net.au/pdf/Lap_Records.doc As this is a Sandown discussion i have shown the lap records for there... but i suggest it would be the same at other tracks... There are very few cars that are in there that a AWD or 4WD.. many of the times are well under the magic 1:20 mark.. As noted by Nick.... yes these cars are all tuned complete race cars which have been tuned and tweaked to the en-th degree. A vast gap between them and us, i do understand this. My point being that it is very possible to get a RWD car to go fast, some people need to remember this. You missed my point.... I'm sure someone could get my car faster if they spent the time and put some laps down. It may not require many laps but it would require some. Of course this is the same with any car, you need to get used to that car. But i think cars like mine would require a whole lot more getting used to, than something like a reasonably well setup S13 or GTST, or GTR for that matter. In all of this... Yes if i had lots of money i could probably go out and buy a GTR, spend a whole lot more money on it and then do quick times with some practice on the track. Having said that.... if i suddenly got a whole lot of money. I would still pump it into the Corona and see what i could do about it. Like leigh said... its all about the underdog... And yeah ok... my car is say 3 seconds slower than ryans at sandown as an example. (With similar power outputs) The way i look at it is... My 30 year old Mid-sized Family car with some upgraded springs and shocks and a powerfully motor... is 3 seconds slower and a 12 year old sports car, with near on race car suspension and MASSIVE tyres. The best bit about it all is that yeah it is a heap of fun. and i do think the trash talking adds to it
  13. heh you snuck this in while i was writing my post. Heh heh steering rack... if only... try steering box and draglink setup
  14. PIPE DOWN! and just to set the record straight... my 2:04 @ PI was done with 170ish - rwkw in the damp with 49 other cars on the track compared to mark in the dry and on a comparatively empty track (gotta love racing excuses!!!) I would like to know what else my car is capable of in the right hands... but i have doubts on who would have the right hands I just think with cars like the Datto's and definitely my corona they have so many little foibles that it would take someone a lot of track time to learn how to drive them fast. Compared to something that has a bit for pedigree like a S13 or a skyline. When i drive cars like ryans, or other skylines they just seem to drive like a car is supposed to drive. I can't really speak for the datto's. but my corona just doesn't part of me thinks that even if someone who is obviously a good steerer stepped into my car, without putting down some serious track time, They wouldn't be able to lap the car as fast as i can. Just purely because i doesn't handle like you would expect a car to handle on a track. Bumping, squirming, weird unexplained over steer, under steering all the way through a corner. coupled with about 20 degrees of steering slop, and more rattles and vibrations than you can point a stick at. I'm not saying it's gonna be any easier or harder in either car i spose. Just think it would be a bit more orthodox, and therefore easier to lean in a car that handles good. Spose my biggest fear with getting someone to drive my car would be them trying to push it too hard without knowing what it is capable of and hurting them self in a crash. Obviously on top of that i don't wanna see my car bent Heh guess reading all of this you'd call me crazy for wanting to race a car that is so rubbish. those of you who have seen 'Love the Beast' will understand! Any wayz.. that is my 2c
  15. hahaha OUCH... hit him where it really hurts!
  16. hahaha sweet that should be funny.... hopefully i should be able to get mine sorted also.... looking forward to it... it should be a good day...
  17. Heh Heh good stuff Wayne... Will be strange not to have you as a starter though! Which brings up a good point. Make sure everyone brings along some friends that wouldn't mind helping out with some jobs around the place... we will need some 'flaggies' for the back track as well as a couple of timers and startes for both back tracks.. also a starter and a timer will be needed for the skid pan in the morning. So keep that in mind if some of your mates are keen to come along... get them involved. all the jobs are really easy and most of them get you up and close to the action!! We will post up a thread probably closer to the event listing jobs and who has put there hand up for them..... but please post up any expessions of interest in this thread. Remember if we don't have any helpers... the day simply wont run...
  18. Heh heh... I think what Italiazr1 has pointed out in his post is probably the biggest cause for people crashing when trying to drive a car fast... Attitude Assuming that you are a good driver and know how to drive fast.... that sort of attitude is exactly what will get you into trouble. "Assumption is the mother of all f u c k-ups" (write that down) Racing round a track is a dangerous thing... there's no denying that... but if you treat it with respect and are willing to learn then you will be much better off If you just roll out there and think you are king dick behind the wheel from the start... I think your only heading for a fall.. or a crash as it were.... Can i also just add.... break - To cause to separate into pieces suddenly or violently; smash. brake - A device for slowing or stopping motion, as of a vehicle, especially by contact friction. Just in case people didn't know the difference. That is all...
  19. heh yeah i'm with you bris.... thats probably one of the most boring vids i've eva seen.... its all about the excitment... I'd much rather be excited doing my 2:04 than be bored doing a 1:50.... On that note.... Firman picked up a 2:04.55 in the 180B my current best is a 2:04.97 keeping in mind that my car has 2.5 times the power of Firmans!!! Seems I have some work to do....
  20. did anyone else read this differently after seeing DRD's avtar?
  21. Is it just me or are u saying you want to have it looking good? but you are goin to crash into a wall and wreck it? Sounds like a top way to waste some money.... Why not leave it looking shit... then when you hit the wall its not as disappointing.. That's my theory any wayz!
  22. I'm out also. Forget the Global Economic Crisis I'm having my own
