On an RB20, would you buy just the EX side, or would you buy both sides? Seeing as RB20 doesn't have NVCS

Today I was having a little squirt against some dude in a rotary, and my gearbox "locked". The gear shift came out of 1st alright, but then when I tried to select 2nd at around 6k rpm (roughly), it wouldnt go in. I tried 3rd, that wouldnt work either. I couldnt select ANY gear. I had to roll to a stop and then ram the gear stick into third with my foot on the clutch. This is the second time it has happened ... first time was on Friday night. I had also just launched on that occassion and was attempting to change into 2nd. What is causing this? Any help would be muchly appreciated
