Back then, I think the price would have been prohibitive, and also they probably would have found it hard to find a correct market in Australia. Then it would have had to have been targetted as a family sedan (hence probably no 2 door versions) to be pitched against the commodores, magnas, and camrys of the time... just as the local R31 skyline was. The perception would have been that they would be too small, and not enough power (just the fact that it was a 2L would have turned many off) for Australian buyers. They would never have sold the RB20DET due the general consesus that power = v8, which either left the RB20E (erk), or another more modern version of the rb30E. It would have all been about the mindset of the average Australian buyer back then, which is fairly different to what it is now. Guess costs were prohibitive, nissan wasn't doing too well then (i think it was around a similar time to the stopping of production of the Pulsar, etc in Australia), and wasn't really in a position to be sinking more money into R&D. Going the other route and selling the R32 RB20DET as a "sporty 2L turbo coupe" probably also a difficult proposition at the time. It was only later on that the WRX, early EVO's, and other sporty turbos really gave the general perception that you could get good power out of a 2L. I am not sure the exact reasons, but that is what I have always thought when I have wondered why myself

the rb25de plenum is slightly flatter from what I remember.. think the rb25det plenum would be even worse.. if you're going the whole hog (which i guess you are if you're going rb30det) I am sure you'd want to go for a front facing plenum anyhow.

I've seen a few that kick past the redline a bit.. I believe it is due to the type of exhaust and a few other things. If its in neutral and you redline it (which isn't too good for the engine apparently) that is when it can do it more. The speed cut of 180km/hr is fairly rough. .some have reported going up to 200km/hr before it cuts out the injectors. There may be some inaccuracy of what the speed the ECU is picking up and that displayed on the speedo too. Even if its only 5% at 180km/hr its going to be a bit over 180km/hr. I wouldn't worry at all to be honest!

how to identify 32 gtr vspec n1
predator replied to 7heavn's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
getting somebody to punch the VIN into FAST should clear that up pretty quickly.. -
Just be careful on the r31.. as I believe they are different. And aussie and import R31 require different rails. R31 aussie is definitely not the same as the R32 -> r33 jap stuff.

Anyone here have access to a large warehouse for a 1989 SAU rave????
predator replied to 666DAN's topic in Queensland
I think dan has gone crazy.. and taking this 1989 idea just a little too far.. -
maybe they're busy swapping an rb20det back into it?
-
need for a s1 rb25det. rb25 plastic cam cover (can be turbo or non turbo.. not too fussed) rb25det complete engine loom (goes from head/engine to ECU). coil pack loom.. goes from igniter box to the coils. Let me know whether you have got it, and how much.. no massive rush, and prefer cheap price over getting it straight away cheers..

yeah.. hacksaw.. i got one that does the job well.. just want a thin blade that can flex.. u can get small handles for the blades.

hey guys.. working on your car is rewarding though .. otherwise we'd all be paying others to do it its good to have a bit of a break though.. don't have to worry about too much stuff on my old car really.. seems to just keep running and running with no dramas. Althouhg i did fix the rough idle yesterday.. just turned out was clogged AAC valve (thing was nearly black)

Thanks for the headsup guys.. all helps. Well I picked up an rb25det head pretty much complete today. Missing a few things (such as the loom - hence why I as asking), but have time to track them down. Looks like I have to go the RB25det(vvt) route as thats pretty much what I have. Not a drama I guess as there are plenty of r33 out there to scavenge parts off. So guess its really going to be an RB25det conversion and then some. Total cost so far : $500 for head + free block. Fairly cheap so far.. but its after now that its going to get expensive Bought an rb30e complete that had come out for an RB20det conversion.. sold a few bits off it like the gearbox for a few bucks. So in the end basically ended up being free. 1989 block w/ 200,000km on the clock so should be fairly fresh. Probably won't be until next year that I really get stuck into it. Kind of missing something vital like a car to put it into

Misc r33 crap [bris]
predator replied to predator's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
i think kami is gonna take the airbox.. but last bump before this crap goes in the bin.. -
joel.. What loom and ECU combo are you running with your engine (if you have got to that part yet ? Are you running the rb25 loom or RB20 engine loom ? Can you use the RB20det loom & ECU in conjunction with an rb25de/t head ? Edit: now i think about it, rb20det ECU would be useless without remapping as the injectors would be wrong size, and there is probably other problems with that. Next question: can it be remapped at all to properly run an RB30DET ?

sounds like should be a nice little monster.. hope it works out well . i have some plans too.. picking up some bits tomorrow hopefully..

buy a r33 turbo or keep my non turbo
predator replied to MR R33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Not necessarily.. mine ran 11-12psi for the near 2 years i had it, and the year before it the previous owner ran similar boost. If the engine is in good condition and tuned well with appropriate modifications there should be no problems. Adding an aftermarket turbo running 17psi.. well that is different If you keep the stock turbo, you should be able to run 180rwkw or so no problems for years and years if you ask me. Go for the r33 gts-t.. at the moment seems to be a great time to buy.. some nice ones around 16-17k all around australia it seems.. r32 are too expensive at the moment, and the rb25det is the superior motor. -
Most Succesful Way To Sell A Skyline?
predator replied to Z32 Airlines's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
yeah, i know the feeling.. who knows what will happen to mine, and hey, i have the money so I guess its not my concern too much. But after all the effort and time put in, and just thinking this young guy could just kill it like *that* you just wonder sometimes. -
amen broda.. depends what sort of person you are.. if you are the type that gets bothered by every little scratch and things, and general wear and tear, then I'd just get a daily driver. Having two cars is also useful for when the other car is being worked on, in the shop, etc. While some balk at the running costs of two cars.. if u just go for 3rd part damage on the daily, and the other is pretty good in petrol.. it will pay for itself in 12 months anyhow. Some ppl's ego I guess can't stand to drive around in a crappy looking car though.. but if not.. get something cheap.. u don't have to care about it, and enjoy the GTR when you really can drive it like its meant to be drivien.

where to mont SAFC2 in a R33?
predator replied to nizmokid's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
as you can see adrian has the obvious "blue screens of death" look going on his nice 4 door.. A bad idea if he was in melbourne, but here is QLD you may also prefer a more subtle look that I had on my old r33. If i had the inclination I would have inset it properly to match the face unit.
