  1. I am booked in for all of the work to be done. I do not know about the gasket blowing, but when we went on Face Time with the FC hand commander the settings were back to original tune , the car was running VERY rich, rough and noisy at idle and we went through it, changed a few settings and got the car running OK and I changed the plugs, they were BLACK! I guess I could have just waited for the ECU to come back with the tune reloaded and just drive it hoping that it was a once off, BUT I have a lot of trouble getting to Sydney and will do all of this at once and get it over with. If they used another R34 I would think they would just take the other ECU out, plug mine in and reload my Tune from their files , pull it out and replace the other ECU. I have been after more torque down low as the car was a shit DD the way it was. As you can see from the Dyno last time Brown and the old Dyno Blue that it is getting much better :)and I expect a little better again this time. I have the exhaust being custom made , I want it free flowing but not too loud, I am in a small town and once you get targeted, your stuffed
  2. Apexi ECU , they were going to use another car if they had a R34GTR there or power it up on the bench, so they must have something they can use? I was coming home from Sydney after the new turbo, cam and new tune was done. had traveled about 300Kl, going great, like a new car, I was loving it, on a real twisty bit and having a bit of fun and the car cut out for a second or 2 and when the turbo kicked in it was shit, between 1500 and 3500revs before full boost it was fine, found a spot to pull over and the idle was rough and noisy and it conked out. Checked everything I could see and nothing seemed to be off or leaking, 45Kls from home, in the bush so I babied it home, the end I will have the ECU back today, I will put it back in and see what happens. Taking it back to Sydney next week for the Haltech Pro R34GTR, while I am there I will get a new exhaust system and fuel system and hopefully make it back home this time, haha
  3. I am not car smart but like them, A LOT! I find that too many people on these sites saying "refer back to past posts, years OLD" Tech changes and companies refine their products, Haltec has an ECU for R34GTRs and I will be having one installed in mine soon, so I guess I will find out first hand what they are like but I will probable never use all of the functions, but? Does the same Pro work for R32 /33 , NO they do another model that is designed for the 32/33 Here is the site below, maybe I read it wrong but it looks like they are made especially for the R3s http://www.haltech.com/product/platinum-pro-plug-in-series/nissan-skyline-r34-platinum-pro-plug-in/
  4. I guess I will find out, I sent the ECU off to Sydney. So I guess I will wait and see what happens when it comes back. But for the hassle it causes even if it seems OK I will change it and I will go the Haltech Pro
  5. I knew what you meant, I think I will get a cheap laptop to do only car stuff and not use it on the Internet as there are too many things that can stuff your computer up if you use the Internet, well I think so?
  6. Just drove back from Sydney after the mods and with some power down low it is easy to drive, I will see if I can post the new Dyno Tune
  7. So if they do not lock it up with a password I can use the tune or whatever is put into the ECU? Then you say if I have the correct password I CANNOT save it to my laptop, was this a TYPO ? As I said, I am learning
  8. they said the Haltech, I would like a unit that most tuners would be happy with, if possible? As I live a long way from Sydney I was hoping to get this last work and tune done in Sydney and hopefully find someone closer.
  9. Hi Dave A long time coming but here is the difference from the T78 and the PT6262 and it drive like a different car, clutch is easy with a bit of power down low Brown = new tune Blue = old tune
  10. There is a lot to learn, bloody cars I have had a lot of cars but with this R34GTR it is the first time I am interested in more than just driving them There are different ideas of what is the best brand/model# and I understand that price can be a major factor, maybe someone could recommend a package of what I would need , ECU , brand and model# and whatever can be used to make it user friendly, I am not the best with computers but OK once I get my head around most things, sometimes just enough to be dangerous But if I buy something I want it to be able to do everything you need it to do.
  11. haha, everyone is out for a buck $ When you see this gizmo in action, "The hand commander FC" and someone 100s of Klms away changing what your motor is doing(simple when you know what you are doing) by guiding you through some simple adjustments , cars take on a new look, shit this is space stuff watching and hearing your car sounding different, running like crap to sweet by changing a few settings on a gizmo. I just wonder when it is time to get new tech into your car, seeing I have a problem, maybe it is as good as time as ever to do it? But I think I will send the Apexi down to the tuner and have them load the tune again and send it back so I can try and use the car until they can do all the work I want done
  12. The tuner was on Face Time with me and we went through everything he wanted to see with the hand commander he sent me before saying what he though had happened and recommended a new unit instead of replacing it with the same 15 + year old Apexi unit and suggested using new tech unit?
  13. To be honest I do not know what to get, but if I have to change the ECU I want something that if I have a problem in the future I can save the tune and I can reload the tune from a memory stick or whatever, well that is if this sort of thing is available to us mere mortals ??
  14. Hi Dave The car was stuffed, would not idle for long, sounded like rattling a can of nuts and bolts at idle and when I tried the boost it was crap,BUT at about 1400 revs to 4k ish it sounded fine, I am stuck in the bush on a shitty Rd so I mothered it home under 3k He sent the hand controller to me and we went to the settings using Face Time, he was in control of the situation, he could SEE everything and guided me through it, not rocket science when you have the tuner guiding you, he saw that the ECU had gone back to original/factory settings. The car was running very rich, so we changed the settings to fix it and a couple of other settings, then I took it to my mechanic to check the motor was OK and change the plugs, they were BLACK. I do not know if the changes will stay there and not keen on it going pop again on the way to Sydney, so he has offered to load his loaner ECU with my tune and send it to me to get me back to Sydney. I may be wrong but I think he did everything he could from 350Klms away to help me out of a bad situation and professionally .. This does not mean I am happy that the FN thing went pop after 300Klms after just having work done including a NEW Tune:(
  15. Hi Paul, Maybe I misunderstood what he said, I thought he said there was a back up battery and it could have been stuffed or there was some sort of electrical problem with it. The car went dead for a second or 2 as I was driving with boost and that was when it went tits up. We changed a few of the settings using the hand commander he sent up to me as it was running rich and he suggested I take the car to my mechanic to change the plugs (black as) and to make sure nothing happened to the motor , it made some strange noises at idle, it was like shaking a can of bolts, but over 13-1500 Revs it sounded fine until boost ,all good The tuner CRD did the previous tune and after he changed the Turbo and Cams it was running exactly the way I asked him to do it,well for 300Klms,haha I doubt it is anything he did and just one of those things.FN cars, haha I have been looking at 2 ECUs Haltech and MoTec , do you know anything about them or suggest something else to look at ??
  16. thanks ,I am just a little apprehensive about using the same ECU after this, I have to go 700 Klms to get the tune reloaded and could have the same thing happen again. I know this could also happen with the new one, but hopefully not.
  17. Tuner said he might be able send up a loaner unit with my tune in it to get me back to Sydney , that would make things a lot easier
  18. The tune was saved, so that is all good. Just before the car started playing up, it cut out for a second and off it went again,I was pushing it a bit and boost went all over the place, I was on some real twisty road in the bush and not a place to have your car stop in the middle of the road, luckily found a bit of dirt, pulled over and it conked out. The hand commander unit was sent up to me from Sydney we used Face Time to let the tuner see what was going on and we changed the fuel setting as it was running rich, I also took the filters off the turbo so we could have a better look to see if anything had come loose/off or split and it all seemed OK. He seems to think the backup battery shxt itself, or something similar.I guess it could be anything as the car is 15 years old and nothing lasts forever. I am not going to take any chances and will change it to a Haltec Platinum Pro or similar once I do my homework on them as I know shxt all about them. Having a mechanic up here have a look at it today to make sure the motor is OK as it was making a lot of noise under 1500 revs, new plugs, keep it under 3.5k and baby it back to Sydney if it OK to do so, guess I keep my fingers X
  19. just had turbo and cam work on the car that required a new Dyno tune, after 300kls on the way home it went to sh@t, lost idle , had to keep it around 2k to stop it from stalling and I tried to see if it would boost, not good Had a hand held Apexi FC commander sent to me by the Tuner, ran some tests and it turns out the tune has gone back to the Factory tune. Said maybe the back up battery had died and something went wrong? This is a long distance assessment, so not easy.. They said my computer needs to be changed and the car re-tuned and I have to take it back to Sydney. MY QUESTION IS, do Dyno Tunning mechanics keep the new tunes in their computer system, if so , can they load it into the new unit and send it to me to have it installed?? Probably not as easy as that?
  20. Hi Noy Been waiting to see what the end result was. Any updates or did I miss it? I am having PT6262 CEA SP installed this week
