  1. if he backed off timing it would have probably been for the safety of the motor which again explains the slightly lower power reading
  2. woops just saw it in your first post. Yeah as Adrian has said the power is OK depending on his dyno. dynos will read +/- up to 10kw. the average is 195kw for those mods so you're not far off.
  3. what boost?
  4. theres a trick that worked in 'gone in 60 seconds' where they shorted out the park light on a ford t-bird which disengaged the locks. give it a go.
  5. the alarms we install into our houses call our phones from a dedicated number. probably worth looking into, and you're not paying for a back-to-base system - just the phone line and the alarm does the rest.
  6. im currently trialing the software and working closely with the developer of the PPo2 system, it was designed around rotary engines as he drives an rx8t but works very well with piston motors. i was a bit skeptical at first but ive gotten some fair good gains from it, im the only skyline/turbo trailer at the moment but so far we've been picking out the bugs from it and it should be very skyline-friendly once the final version comes out. it works like this: 1. you log all of your data via a data logging tool that has the ability to export to excel. you can run 5mins+ of data or consecutive bits of data. just get as many logs as you can! but it doesn't matter - you can come back and re-do your logs once you've completed a tune and it will fine tune it further. 2. run your logs through the software and then it will output a injector map that you can add to your current figures. thats pretty much the run down of it, there are alot of steps involved in setting up your car - very detailed information you have to input before you can start tuning. the preferred afr's were around 14.7 off boost then 12-12.1 on boost, then 11.8 above 17psi. I ran 3 maps into the software (they were 3 runs @ 10.5afr's in 2nd gear - probably around 20secs of logs each) the results were 11.1 - 11.5afr's to redline. at the moment this is all run through microsoft access but once the bugs are all sorted it will be moving to a stand alone program. we have talked about making it an 'add on' to data logging software but i think that will happen after the initial product launches and much much much more time is spent in development.
  7. for $250 for a 2nd hand turbo you can do it all yourself if you have the confidence. it sounds like your turbo bud. it could be something else but thats my take on what you've reported.
  8. best thing would be to get it towed to a mechanic and get him to do compression/leakdown and oil pressure test. yeah dude sounds like turbo is gone.
  9. turbo can do a few things on failure. you can blow a seal and have white smoke pour out, you can blow an oil seal ring and blow blue smoke out or it can seize up/break apart and have no smoke pour out. yeah im in bankstown. send me a pm if you want me to check it out.
  10. high chance of it being a turbo seal. get it checked out mate. doing a turbo swap is pretty easy (done it for a fair few SAU'ers so far) with the right tools/skill it shouldnt take more than 3-4hrs in and out.
  11. what colour is the smoke? any new noises?
  12. 1. depends what compressor its running, try yours and if all else fails just find a wrecker. unfortunately turbo elbows are hard to find. 2. not a strange swap over - its the preferred option if the turbo is hi-flowed, i personally wouldnt bother if it was standard. 3. not sure if anyone has gone the standard swap over. 4. same as any other stock turbo - around 10-12psi 5. get it hiflowed or at least rebuilt. the turbo is older than your entire car dude!
  13. yeah mate im using the pressure sensor for everything else. its just cleaner to make the car run on the MAP sensor if you log the AFM voltages vs. throttle position.
  14. he says it was worst on bearing 4 and 5, or near cyl 4 and 5 - i dont remember.
  15. Engineer will have a report ready for me by wednesday i hope. i'll ring him today and see if he'll go earlier. no point in speculating if we dont know 100% what happened.
  16. I'll check my garage but i doubt it mate. all pm's replied. guys, im a bit slack in getting pics up because of work bla bla... the gauges are the smoke faced gauges from just jap that are black when they're off and light up when you turn the ignition on.
  17. he said the pistons and rings are fine as well as the bores so i highly doubt it was detonation. the only part in the entire motor that failed were 2 of the main bearings.
  18. Thanks Steve, if the engineer returns with results in my favour then i'll give them a call. As far as he has told me, he doesnt have an actual report. He says that he's had 2 guys look at it, an engineer (i think) and someone from the NRMA and both said it was caused by detonation whereas the engineer that will provide me with a report said that detonation would not cause the main bearings to go, it would cause the big end bearings to go if anything.
  19. finally got an engineer who will do modified engines. i will finally find out next Wednesday!
  20. I've organised another Engineer to go out and do a full inspection for next Wednesday @ 10:30am so hopefully we will finally have a definite answer to its failure.
  21. sorry mate, im not releasing the name of the workshop. i dont think it would be very fair to do so either considering that we don't officially know the cause of the failure. Im going to try organise the engineer that was recommended to go out and make an inspection.
  22. thanks guys, ive given him a call and he DOES do inspections on modified motors. looks like my search is over.
  23. no the airflow output map was still throttle position vs rpm. i was using the boost limiter map but for some reason it wasnt working. ok i'll try putting the idle voltage somewhere around 1.35v and +20 to -20 which will give me 40% to play with. i should have thought of that sooner. thanks Trent, i'll let you know how i go.
  24. pics will be up today/tomorrow guys.
  25. Hey mate, hes not in Bankstown, I'll send you a PM shortly. More news guys. Apparently the cause of the failure was detonation and lean mixtures. does this sound right? i still cant find an engineer to go check it out. Trent, can you refer me to someone in Sydney with the knowledge to at least give me a well thought out diagnosis if not an engineer's report?
