Crd Dyno Tuning Of My R32 Gt-r.... My 0.02c!
williamsf1 replied to williamsf1's topic in New South Wales
Correct.... DART Jim previously worked at CRD, and now has set up a very very nice workshop in punchbowl, and turns out some of the most professional work I have seen....also of note is that their new dyno room is state of the art! and has the latest tech dynolog dyno.... Jim @ CRD could most likely tune a GT-R drunk and no sleep.... I'm hard to impress at the best of times, and considering the car was mad fast previously, he made a hell of a gain! EVERYWHERE!!!! Also of note is that most of the on going work was completed by BEL and I would say 90% of the car belongs to the hard work of Eric there!!!! so yes, a combo of resources from the best avaliable, and funnily enough, the only bad blood between the workshops is in the customer rivals.... not the workshops themselves. As I know all 3 personally vouch for each other, and have seen them each be recommended by the next... happy days...... -

Yes as always SK you played a huge part in the overall development of this car, whilst not getting your hands dirty, it was generally your ideas placed into practice yeah so 270 AWKW on dynolog and 313 AWKW on dynodynamics is sweet... but Im more for the torque! 707NM !!!! oh my.... Gary we need to have a chat about AFR's I feel there could be a whole thread just on this as it is such an important thing.... Id love to know what say a V8 team runs for lets say bathurst versus a sprint round... or for that matter what Gibo's car ran for the 1000.... 12 seems to be the number used a lot, but Jim said higher is still well safe with nice fuel.... -

sure.... are you driving over to Adelaide for it? or shall we meet at lets say PI ? middle ground???? -

When I get back to Adelaide, I will also look to have an autronic or MoTeC wide-band O2 sniffer borrowed for a drive around....and confirm it all As long as I keep the correct fuel up to the engine (BP ultimate) and not run for extended periods with the high setting of 1.4 I should have no issues at all... I doubt the car is too lean as it was certainly doing the nice fuel cloud out the back on the dyno!!! ala a stone brother's V8 style... also I note Jim said I should add a little octane boost (nulon) for any future track days... half a bottle for a tank just for safety... Kabab.... you will love cams, no question! I also beleive that there is a bit in the TRUST dumps, as not many have these, and maybe more to come as I have been told my exhaust is rather restrictive ( has been chopped and changed prior to me owning the car and has some bad welds and bends.... also 3" ) -

Hey Dave, yeah I am sure CRD's is a happy dyno! I'm only able to compare like for like.... many other guys on this forum have been to CRD and got with similar setups 285-315 AWKW so Im in there somewhere.... I did the DART dynolog because :- A) Jim @ DART offered and is a great guy! B) very accurate NM torque reading C) unbiased back to back testing with a known base..... to gain 65 AWKW and 122NM with slightly less boost is great news from a dynolog.... I also know of a GTR with GTRS making 280AWKW on dynolog making 385 AWKW on DynoDynamics.... -

Crd Dyno Tuning Of My R32 Gt-r.... My 0.02c!

Mik DART's dynolog dyno and Jason from the GONG's dyno read with the same initial tune 1 AWKW difference... so I was very happy that the dynolog system is repeatable... GTRmadness... the cams made well over 10AWKW with the rest of the timing adjusted accordingly... I have the sheet with cam timing 0 0 below.... it is also a well known fact that dynolog dynos read quite a bit lower than dynodynamics.... (CRD type) of note this morning the tyres were cold, and the ambient was same as before.... (205 run) Jim @ CRD said the tyres alone will sap 10-20 when they get too hot.... interesting! -

Ok update time.... I went to DART this morning, and Jim did a power run on his dyno which I already know is accurate for a dynolog dyno (it was within 1kw of the original tune in the GONG on a dynolog) so before :- 205 AWKW 585NM @ 1.43 BAR now:- 270 AWKW 707NM @ 1.36 BAR now that is what I call a real world gain... dyno sheet below.... -

To be Honest Richard I don't know... I've asked Jim before, and he can't remember as he has done so many engines... (I bought it with a new DART engine with 1200km on the clock) All I can say is it never gets a knock higher that 17 and averages 12-15 full revs... Like ROY said... fix everything else, and it will keep the engine safe, and I have done that.... -

ok the graph isn't easy to read, so I will have to get it straight.... on the final power run 313 AWKW the AFR does lean to 12.1 bot not more, also to note is that when using a up the tailpipe sniffer you will generally get leaner AFR's than lets say tapping into the dump collector like a motec on board system etc, so there is margin there, how much? I'd have to back to back it... I was with the car 100% of the time, and never did I see Jim or anyone do anything but look after the engine, and this includes AFRs His final word of warning was fitting, but also maybe missed on some people.... "don't use the high boost (313AWKW) for extended periods i.e. 20mins flat out! or your asking for it..." the lower boost settings which is wastegate .84 BAR has more seat of the pants pull that the 1.4 BAR previously.... and AFRs??? 11.8 as they have been always BEL or CRD..... If anyone needs to see my dyno sheet Jim is most happy to run you off one AFRs included.... oh and Pauly... beer and computer = naughty posts! I will have to get stace to spank u! -

Paul as I have stated above, the BEL tune and power run you see is on a dynolog dyno, so unless you have been on one it is just a number, not relative to anything else.... I have to say honestly that the BEL tune drove like a scun cat, and all who have been in the car would agree! but CRD did get more, with less boost using cam timing etc... 2moro will give a true like for like with another run on DART's dynolog... anytime you want to take your car to DART's dyno to see for yourself I am sure you would be most welcome... they are at Belmore Rd Punchbowl.... cheers.... oh and well said Mik edit :- coz pauly asked nicely to remove the quoted rash statement or maybe it was stace :S -

I truely doubt that I will run the car on the strip.... but never say never.... the car was built to go fast around corners (as nissan designed it) and you will see me at every race track I can take it to that is a promise!!! I hope to see all the Vic boys at a PI day sometime later in the year!!! -
ok I thought this may interest others as well as the NSW crowd.... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=87893

first of all I would like to say this post, and further posts are not designed to create the "workshop X are fantastic and workshop Y and a bunch of KrUn....zzzz" you know the rest, it has been done before! For those that do not know my car this is a very brief history of the build and who has helped along the way... R32 GT-R build 11/92 first rego 93 fresh rebuilt RB26DETT from DART automotive 3000km ago engine:- tomei poncam 260 260 9.15 cams tomei sump baffles OS cam gears rebuilt with new internals to DART spec (ask Jim ) TRUST extended split dumps HKS GT-SS turbos TRUST FMIC baffled cam covers APEXi FC BLITZ SBC spec R 3.5 inch exhaust HKS rear box splitfire coils iri-top plugs 700cc SARD injectors 044 in tank SARD fuel reg remote filter and oil cooler.... now holding about 7.5 ltrs of oil... 57mm PWR radiator power steering cooler HICAS removed and it goes on... drive line is stock apart from the Jim Berry clutch, redline fliuds in the Gbox and diff, and transmaxZ in the ATTESSA with Castrol R 10/60 for the engine fuel is BP ultimate 98 I think that covers the power making side, there is quite a bit done to make it stop, and turn, but that can wait till I have the urge to add all that!! I would like to thank Jim from CRD for spending the entire day today (rocked up at 0730 and walked out at 1700!) fiddling with, and bringing out nearly 100AWKW from what was essentially a great driving car in the first place!!! basically the work done today was trial and error with ignition timing and also cam timing, however there were 4 signifigant points I should add.... 1) it was found, and shown to me that the CAS (crank angle sensor) was on the way out as we couldnt get the factory 20....replaced 2) throttle was found to be opening only 85% as the nut had spun back... we now have 100% when needed 3) semi slick tyres when hot have a nett loss on the Dyno of about 10-20 AWKW! 4) Cam dialing in is worth the fuss! no question..... Basically the people that did the hard work are BEL garage who tirelessly fitted and fettled the car, slowly getting it to the point were it will live with all this power! and DART for building such a smooth and strong engine, and adding the turbos, cams and pipes to the mix... Jim just took it to the next level, and I am honestly stunned to how big a gain he has got! basically I could go on, and will if asked for the details, however the numbers should speak volumes... the pictures below have :- 1) HKS factory output on a "built" slightly oversize engine with power at the flywheel 2) dynolog dyno power run at DART with a very drivable road tune + dyno top up from BEL making 205AWKW 1.43 BAR boost and 585NM 3) CRD dyno finally 313AWKW 1.36 BAR max dropping to 1.22 BAR at peak power thanks to all :) I will try to get a back to back run on DART's new state of the art dyno 2moro! so stay tuned.... hkspower_curve.bmp

mate for a stock engine you can't go past HKS GT-SS $3300 from nengun.com 500hp for u....

Hey mate.... yeah I was thinking more along the lines of a practice day being run by SAU or similar that the Vic GT-Rs would be attending....
-
G'day Andrew.... I'm moving back to Adelaide shortly, and would love to take the drive in the GT-R to Vic and PI sometime later in the year, or early new year.... is there anything coming up (SAU) that would be worth putting in the diary? cheers! Ben

mate did you take some final pics of when you did this? would like to see the results
-
ahhhh ok well I will try my luck at sturt first of all hope to see you around with your N1 Glenn
-
ok I am a fan.... will it be the same colour as the outside? and are you going to hide all the wiring loom etc etc ala a race car? and while the engine is out is it getting the works too You may want to holesaw some air intake holes on the LHS to improve airflow to your airbox or pod set up, has been done on my car ex-japan and seems to make a big difference.... can't wait to see more pics!
