I think you will find if you look through this section you will find at least two more threads on PC builds etc that maybe of benefit to you. DDR2 RAM as DDR3 RAM is more for the i7 series.

So which ISP's are providing info as to who of their users are using P2P? That link above from r33 dude would require 5 working days and my whole month internet limit to go through it :-) lots of info though thats for sure. So what companies are reporting?

get the cheaper 800mhz kingston 4GB ram and then you can easily get that 9800GTX. Read my thread that some of the buys helped me with in regard to 800mhz vs 1066mhz unless you are really going to be overclocking that thing to the max i wouldnt worry about the 1066 as the guys have mentioned other than that there is not a massive amount of difference. definately stick with 4GB worth just dop it down to 800mhz Also as mentioned consider dropping your hard disk space if you need to.... 1TB is still alot. Also as mentioned earlier in this post might also be good to wait about 4 more weeks as a whole bunch of newer high end graphics cards have just come out...... it may make the 9800GTX as it is mid range at the moment but still packs a punch ( i currently use one as still max out most games)

as 31nismoid said more $$ on grafix card, perhaps reduce RAm to 800mhz, may go for a 500GB Hard disk drive and just burn ya stuff to dvd (if you already have a dvd burner that is. The near $100 you may have saved from that put towards a better graphics card, maybe even also go the next board down in the GIGABYTE range, Gigabyte motherboards have a very good following behind them so prob stick with them

Ooooh nice how much did that system cost omega? Keep us in the loop when ya ready to sell the 4870.... i need to upgrade my 9800GTX I have not seen much movement in card prices even though the new Nvidia range is out. Whats even more funny is that the newer Nvidia range is for sale at a cheaper price than the old range! New technology, more performance yet retailers have not yet dropped the pricing of the older ones eg the 280 model is more expensive than the new 285 model!???

i currently run a 9800GTX and i want to upgrade to a 4870 or if i had the $$$ 4870x2. I would go the 4870. Dont get me wrong the 9800GTX is a good card but the 4870 is equivelent to the nvidia 260 (slightly better from reviews i have read) which is a whole different leaugue of cards compared to the 9800GTX, if you want something more future proof the 4870 would be the go, so many people have em right now on OCZ forums plus tomshardware.com

well for $1500 - $2000 you could get a pretty nice PC. 4GB Ram is generally ok but if you need the 8 for things like video editing well thats up to you, but i guess the higher standard these days is 4GB RAM providing you are running Vista because if memory serves me correct Windows XP only recognises up to 3GB. As far as graphics cards go, the hot ones on the market are the ATI/Radeon cards, a model called the 4870 seems to be the go and is normally aroun say the $350 mark but you get great value for it. I am more of an nvidia man myself and as far as graphics cards go what R31Nismoid said the 260/280 model is doing well, but if i was to get a card i would have the go the radeon 4870 best bang for buck! hope that helps a bit

Hey all, time for another whacky 25GTT question thread.... this time its about the amazing world of RAM. OK so this is my system: My setup? Case:Coolermaster Centurion 5 Motherboard: Gigabyte EP35-DS3 CPU & CPU Cooler: E8400 clocked just a bit to 3.3 ghz running a xigmatek cooler and managed by a schweeet zalman LCD fan and PSU controller, very blingy but lets me control everything! RAM: 4gb 800mhz ram (kingston i think), do you think its worth going the 1066mhz or not worth it?? Monitor: 22 asus splendid monitor Graphics Card:Ge force galaxy 9800GTX 512MB (might need to go a 4870 soon?) HDD(s):2 yummy 500GB HDD's running in raid format so 1TB in total (600GB still left to go) Recently i have seen 4GB worth of Kingston Hyper 1066 mhz RAM for $90 shown below: http://www.ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=37851 So my question is for performance is there an advantage in going the 1066mhz? the guy at PLE said go for a more high performance 800mhz RAM for future clocking at the moment my cpu is clocked from 3ghz to 3.3 i doubt i will ever take higher than 3.6 ghz on the E8400 chip. so would the kingstone RAM be suffice? i thought the 1066mhz would be better but the guy at the shop said the 800mhz offers less latency so better for gaming? There also is this kit which is pretty high end for RAM: http://www.ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=33701 what would you recommend? is there a huge difference in me getting 1066mhz? Also currently i have 4 x 1gb sticks, is there a performance increase in going 2 x 2 GB sticks? So many questions such little time :-) Thanks all!

I just installed my 5.1 yamaha sound system through fibre optic cable into the PC! Sounds INSANE! just started playing fallout 3 now! Honestly spending the extra cash on this over my old low end logitech 5.1 was prob one of the best things, the vibrations from the subwoofer is fantastic!

So what shoulod be the max temp you would like the CPU to hit. When i run OTTC i think it was called it was hitting 61degrees only clocked to 3.3g. Also is there any forum you guys know of for getting some good and cheap GFX cards, kinda like the SAU of the PC world :-) Forum in Oz would be good

What cpu is inc in that $400 setup or is that without a chip? also r31 nismoid, you used the word "lapped" when referring to your cpu, is that the same as clocked or a new techie word i have not heard before?
-
Nice work on the new thread and the Ocing. Have you run a 3d mark test? would be interesting to see what ya score? Is there many games these days that need that kind of PC speed? i think the modern gamnes are now more GPU hungry, is there any advantage of me ocing the cpu? Interesting to see how the new i7 cores clock compared to the trusty e8400s! Gees 4ghz, looks like i have some more clocking to do i think i am getting CPU envy ehhehe!
-
hhaah had to LOL at R31 Nismoid! nice one for getting the e8400 clocked to over 4.1ghz, how does it go on a 40 degree day? are you running that all the time or do yuo "declock" quite regularly? .... nice work! Are you doing that through BIOS? My setup? Case:Coolermaster Centurion 5 Motherboard: Gigabyte EP35-DS3 CPU & CPU Cooler: E8400 clocked just a bit to 3.3 ghz running a xigmatek cooler and managed by a schweeet zalman LCD fan and PSU controller, very blingy but lets me control everything! RAM: 4gb 800mhz ram, do you think its worth going the 1066mhz or not worth it?? Monitor: 22 asus splendid monitor Graphics Card:Ge force galaxy 9800GTX 512MB (might need to go a 4870 soon?) HDD(s):2 yummy 500GB HDD's running in raid format so 1TB in total (600GB still left to go) OS Used: Vista Peripherals: Logitech G15 version 2 and logitech 7100 laser cordeless mouse (eg) Also using an amazing sound system through fibre optic cable a yamaha TSS-1 5.1 PC home theatre system, $400 later and smiling :-) Also running a corsair 620 watt PSU Just a quick note as well for you all, my zalman controller tells me very accurately home much power/watts i am using, i recall people (not in this forum)saying you will need 500watts plus to run high power munchin games, as a note i have not yet seen the power hit 500, i have now seen 471 watts but that was under high load! now although i do recommend high quality PSU's if you have a system like mine 620 is MORE than enough. Will see how much more power is used with further clocking of the CPU and a better GFX card.

So when will NVidia or ATi release its first cpu then is the question :-) octocore 8ghz heehehheehheh:-)
-
Cant wait to get my hands on a 4870x2 mmmm two cores on a gfx card! So then do we all predcit that these new cpu's will transfer the tech somehow onto a graphics card in the not too distant future and vica versa? what i mean is with the 4870 graphics cards using DDR5 ram, will that be used soon in normal everday pc ram? Will the tech in these new quad core cpu's be used on graphics card somehow or another?

True, price wise they are on par, but I am extremely happy to use them again, when i bought my cpu cooler and lcd fan controller i had various question, not only did i receive e-mails answering the questions, then got one telling me when my shipment would leave, then followed up with a phone call to make sure i was happy with the shipment going out the next day ( I live in WA) plus to make sure all of the answers made sense, too many times in todays day in age does customer service get overlooked, I have heaps of great priced shops local to me such as www.netplus.com.au but as you mentioned the range at pc case gear and service is second to none! I really thought the e8400 price would have gone down, especially now with the new realease of intel chips (dont get the new ones, the lowest i saw was around the $500 mark, look nice though, apparently true quadcore now??) If the e8400 has not gone down yet I am sure it will with the focus being on the new chips. Also make sure you check the classified sections on here, some bargains to be had!!

Will you be Overclocking the CPU? If so check out "Just bought kick a$$ computer" thread, its in this section but a couple of pages back, further info on good cpu's and how to overclock. If so try to go the dual core e8400, has come down in price and VERY overclockable core when combined with a gigabyte motherboard! Also one of my favourite sites now (nerdy i know) is www.pccasegear.com.au they have an AMAZING range of all things PC! i ordered a cooliing fan and controller about 4 months ago, great service!!!

Just sent you a PM, i have a battery that cost $160 from battery world that I used for 1 week, i misdiagnosed a flat battery with a stuffed up fuse, i charged back up my original battery and it worked after i fixed the fuse, so took the new one out as a back up if my old one died. I have now sold SLY 33 and have no need for it. Check your private messages and get back to me.

so what would happen if you did download this game and it was not hacked and it detected you had an incorrect key?

Whats the address of steam? is it a shop? have been looking at the play asia shop, not bad prices there, also suprisingly enough JBhifi seems to keep there prices ..... well i could say low, but thats not the right phrase..... lower than other australian shops. The prices for games are ridiculous! -

yeah farcry2 is for sale pretty soon, its in their coming soon section along with there over inflated prices. Its quite easy with them though. JB hifi sells the same game 20 bucks cheaper eg spore was 79 at jb compared to 99 at eb games, just told the guy i will buy spore at 79 as that is what jb are selling them for and he said yes but they are out of stock. to change my TJmax setting i went into Core Temp (ver 0.99.2) then options then settings and used the value -10 in the degrees section for tjmax. Question for you all, in adjusting my tjmax through core temp, if i were to close the prog, does that mean that the tjmax goes back up to 105? -
