Weird Noise on idle...family of crickets living under hood?
Zahos replied to boost4130's topic in General Maintenance
I had the same problem and it turned out to be the spigot bush (so i was told by the workshop that replaced my clutch) It also has to do with the way the spigot bush is installed. I cant remeber exactly but something along the lines of pushing it in with oil pressure rather than greasing it up. Anyhow, changed clutch (and thrust bearing + spigot bush) and problem solved. -
Maximum tyre speed rating
Zahos replied to Remix-'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Trust a Y speed rating over a Z Y have been tested up to 300km/h and can travel at those speeds. Z have only been tested to 240km/h, but are believed to travel over that speed (although they have NOT been tested over 240km/h) Here is some info I got from a website a while ago... Here is the rating information for speed: M 81 mph 130 km/h N 87 mph 140 km/h Temporary Spare Tires P 93 mph 150 km/h Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans U 124 mph 200 km/h H 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes V 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities. W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed. -
I have been told: - When it squeeks as the pedal is in motion, the thrust bearing needs to be lubed - when it squeeks when the clutch is out (engine running), but stops when you put your foot on the pedal, it's the spigot bush. Mine was doing both. My clutch died prematurely (not related to squeek), got it changed, now it's all good.

yeah I guess most things... He was telling me a bout a brake upgrade with brembo slotted rotors, and ***** pads (I wasn't paying too much attention b/c I thought I saw a scratch on my car)... They had a 300ZX with the engine ou so they could upgrade the turbo's I asked about dyno tuning and I was told they hire dyno time on the wolf research dyno... I dunno how good they are with other stuff, I'm just saying he was honest, customer service was very good, and they were very reasonable priced. These are qualities I like, search for and think should be rewarded, hence this post. I guess if you want something else done you should suss them out yourself, sorry I cant help...

yeah it's a HD It's not a kit, he got clutch plate, pressure plate seperately to what he thought would be suitable for me... The clutch is from Daiken. For the level of service i got, yeah it's a very good price.

Hey Inark, $800 installed. I could have gotten it done cheaper elsewhere, but I did that 3 years ago, and I didn't want to do it again. Last time spigot bush was not installed properly and made a rattle/whistle noise when clutch was engaged CONSTANTLY for 3 years. The adjustment was so bad, the clutch was hard (and it was a stocker), and the friction point was only millimeters from the floor.... This time I just wanted it done right, and I would have gladly paid a little extra. But, the thing it, labour was $200 this time. The last time I got it done, labour was $250.... Clutch was $550, and $50 for machine and surface grind of flywheel. Some places only machine flywheel, not surface grind.

For those who don't know, Nissport is a workshop in Braeside/Mordialloc. Anyhow, my clutch died so I called a few places... I got the usual bunch of ppl who gould not be fuxored explaining, or recomending a type of clutch for my car/driving habbits, and those who just wanted to sell me some crap they most likely made the biggest margin from. Spencer at Nissport was more than happy to spend 15 mins on the phone asking me lots of questions about my driving habbits, cars modifications and power output so that he could then give ne a few recomendations as to which clutches would be most suited for me. anyhow in the end i went for a full faced carbon composite organic clutch with an 850kg pressure plate. The clutch is much lighter than the stock clutch that was in there before and has heaps more bite than the standard clutch, even when it was new. I was worried a little at first, but he assured me that the light pedal feel is attributed to the installation. He also found my spigot bush was a bit rooted and replaced that at no extra charge. He also explained how that wasn't installed properly last time either. I asked him to take care with my car b/c it has recently had a full respray and he did. He also gave me a follow up call the next day to see if I was happy, and to once again re-assure me that the light pedal feel should not reflect the bite of the clutch. Overall I rate his customer service 10/10. As for the clutch it is still in the "running in" period, so I will give a better review in a week or too. So any1 else out there like I was, that doesn't know what to get, how much it should cost, etc, give spencer a call at Nissport and he will happily try to determine what you need, and more importantly, explain WHY....

what other mods do you have? I initially had full exhaust, FMIC, then I boosted it to 10 psi with the norgren 2 valve + check valve system which cost me $150 intotal to build. The car went like crap b/c it was overfueling on 10psi boost. When I got my SAFC2 and tuned it, my dyno chart showed 200rwkw at 9psi, and the car felt great. Not just power, but driveability and smoothness made it so much more enjoyable to drive. Now I have an R32 wastegate actuator which I picked up for $50. Hold 10psi of boost better than any valve or EBC. If I want more boost, I can wire up the standard boost solenoid to a switch, and that doesn't cost a cent. if you just want 10psi boost on the standard turbo, dont waste your money on an EBC, just get the RB20DET wastegate actuator, and get the SAFC2. The SAFC2 is the best value for money mod on an RB25DET (or the jaycar kits - same thing)

Xtreme H/D ceramic clutch experiences
Zahos replied to Timd's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
How much do they go for Ken? (full kit) -
I had the same symptims once, and it turned out to be a coil pack. One of the little springs between the coil an the spark plug was missing and the coil pack oxidized in the shaft. I took out the plug and cleaned it with WD40, replaced little spring and all was good!

Changing your spark plugs will help reduce the effects of this problem, but this problem usually stems from your coil packs. Check out this thread , and also this thread, as the issue is covered a plenty. Also search for more threads of coil packs, hessitation, misfire as there are about 10^9 of them.....
