what do they do exactly in a leak down test??? i know its ment to be more accurate than a compression test (i know what that involves)but what do they actually do??? and how much would it cost? if the rings are stuffed...should i rebuild the block? can anyone recomend a brand of forged poistons??? should i use gtr rods? what turbo is recomended for great power thats not too laggy???

i was told by a friend that was driving behind me that it looked black, but that was at night... i looked at it during the day and it looks greyish/bluish. i have a feeling it might be loose rings. i only had the head polished because i needed the exhaust valves replaced because my ex mechanic stuffed up my timing belt when replacing the water pump. i think the rings could've been damaged then??? if it is the rings, i was thinking rebuild??? does anyone with a built motor have any sugestions?

iv also seen an oil leak on the top of the engine. where the breather hose goes. (where you plug in an oil catch can) seems to be leaking from there and spraying everywhere on the turbo side of the engine. But...what could be causing the black smoke???? where is that coming from????

the car is now blowing black smoke on full load. there is also an oil leak on top of the engine, the breather hose...what wrong????

i was just wondering...does a car that just had the head port and polished consume a lot of oil??? i got my head hi flowed about 5k ago and it seems to have eaten a lot of oil. is that normal? i used turbo light when i had the motor put together. i am going to use mobil 1 within the next couple of days. is it ok to use a full synthetic right now??? i've read that u shoud use mineral oils when you first rebuild a motor. any advise would be great! thanks!

$400???? more like $1500-$2000. but thats including a port and polish. hahaha. was doing maybe a little bit over 4000rpm. i have pics on my phone but i can get them onto the computer. show the damaged valves & scrapes on top of the pistons. it feels weird not driving my car. i drive everyday sometimes have 1 day off a week or month. i miss her!!!

i went to my mechanic because i needed to replace my water pump. it was ment to be a $300 job (parts and labour). the night it was done i was on my way to the central coast from sydney and.......i lose all power and my car stalls on the f3??? WTF happened??? i spent $220 to get it towed to my other mechanic. the next afternoon i was there while they stripped the motor down. timing belt was 50% of its normal thickness. little strands and belt reminence was everywhere. the head was taken off and just as i suspected...exhaust valves were f@kt! slight scratches on the top of the pistons, but they're ok. i sent the head to the guilty mechanic and told him to replace the valves, seats and guides. called him today and he said he's only changing the valves. thats when i called my mum...hahaha he's afraid of her! hahaha (don't laugh! you'd be too). now those three things are being changed and it's getting a port and polish too! the guilty one says he's going to pay 50% what do you guys think??? btw its an SI r33

i owned a r33 gts before i traded up for a gtst. i only got it because my parents were paying for part of it and a turbo was definiantly out of the question! i dont regret it at all. when i got my gtst it was easy to get used to but the power and handleing were on another level. Back on topic. i've beaten heaps of v6 commies in the GTS. all it had was a cat back, pod and lightwieght rims. now with the gtst i can take the 8's on. there's nothing better than turning a bogans smile upsidedown.

so many people on here seem to not know what DEPOSIT means. i would never buy a car that i haven' t driven. thats why i didn't import, even though i would've saved a few grand. that little saving could ahve been a huge headache in the end! when i took my baby for a testdrive at the dealership. i gave it to her good.......real good only to see if she was capable and everything was in working order. when i took her home a week or so later the owner of the dealership said i scared his employee shitless!!! haha he was an old guy probably in his 50's or so. My dad got a little scared too, on the way home. he doen't like getting in the car with me till now. it's not like im a wreckless driver or anything! he just isn't used to a car hitting full boost. mum doesn't like it either. i try and keep it tame when she's with me. (after accidently stepping it out turning a corner due to a bit of sand on the road. she thought we were going to stack it for sure! lucky im a wanna be drifter. i'm nowhere near good, but i aint totaly shit either.)

i changed my geaarbox oil on the weekend because it was crunching going into 4th at full load. put castrol vmx80, nulon addative and found about a litre of lightwieght redline oil so put that in there too. didn't see a change staight away, but after about 200k's of driving the problem went away. now i can change into 4th at redline. is it safe to mix oils???

was a good cruise. the start of oph was fun. going back to berrowra way was better since there was less traffic. sorry to ApleX for almost running into him! wisemans was good besides that.

the white background in your dash is not sotck. i have a SI and it has a black background.

you guys realise that double demerits start on friday don't you??? count me in for the cruise!!!! are you guys gonna be using both lanes? i tend to stick to one, even in the motorbike days. too scared of hiting someone goin the other way. thats why i wont be going first!

last year my starter used to make the noise of when you try and start that car while its already on. was so anoying and rather embarasing when i started it around other people. i pulled it out and greased the shaft. has been working great for about 3/4 of a year now. i suggest you try it before byung a replacement.

just sharing some (maybe) useful information. i had to change my fan clutch today since there was a bit of play in the bearing and it squeeked a fair bit. anyway i went to pick and payless and got one off an r31. they are exactly the same and are probably only a fraction of the price of an r33 one.
