  1. Glad u fixed urs. Stock boost here. Half a tank of injector cleaner used and no real change. Too busy to really do anything else for it yet.
  2. midnight: Been driving the car two weeks now set up like so: I've based my seating position entirely on the clutch so I'm seated so that my leg is about 90-95% extended when I've got the clutch all the way in, as I don't believe I should have to stretch at all to fully clutch, just be comfortably extended. In this position my acc/brake legs are both half bent all the time (sux), much more than the clutch leg. xRHETTx: Yeah @ heel, toe, I know.. I was just doing it unintentionally on ocassion. I figure having to reach a little further to accelerate on purpose to heel/toe is better than revving up by mistake and possibly jumping up someone's boot.
  3. Why are ppl using araldite (any sort) when it's only rated to 60 or 80 degrees C (depending on the type u get)?
  4. Yeah 98 octane here too. The dealer I just bought mine from said they checked the coilpacks cos when I first test drove it, it had the cutting in/out problem between 4-5000rpm which lots of ppl talk about. They replaced the spark plugs from "Iridiums which were strangely gapped" (sic) to something more suitable, which fixed that problem on the next test drive. I'm not so handy with electronics to check the coilpacks myself. I read somewhere on here about slight cracks in the leads or coilpacks themselves (i think?) causing real problems, might be another avenue to follow as opposed to just the connections themselves. I'll look back into that if the injector cleaner doesn't do the trick (fingers crossed).
  5. My 33 came with Razo pedal covers from the dealer but I found myself blipping the accelerator when I was only trying to brake (not good!!) It was happening because the accelerator had this big triangular side that came out too close to the break. I ripped them out and now running with the stock pedals. Two questions: 1) What brand(s), style of pedal covers have ppl got? names and/or links will suffice... but pics would be kool Also, where to buy them? the local supercheap and autobarn don't have much choice. There's some on ebay but.. I'd like to be able to see more detailed pics/in real life before buying something like this. 2) My clutch pedal is set further back than the brake/accelerator pedals. If I'm seated so that I'm comfy for the brake/acc pedals then I sometimes can't clutch as easily/far as I'd like.. If i'm seated well for clutching, my legs cramp up after a while cos I'm too close to the brake/acc pedals. What can I do?
  6. Lol... said like Ghostbusters 'don't cross laser streams' while they're zapping Slimer: 'don't cross threads!' jk we'll figure it out mate. it's a shame to have niggles like this on a car that's so perfect in every other way, so i'm sure someone knows how to fix it. Try the fuel cleaner first, getting mine this evening after work. And don't forget u need to run a complete tank full of it for it to do it's job, so don't worry if it doesn't fix it til u've done ~400kms. Then have another listen/feel of the engine on both cold start and after a semi spirited drive to see if any difference.
  7. Exactly the same car and situation here (even down to owning the car a coupla weeks ). Except the aftermarket exhaust on my car was there when I got it and I don't have the solenoid 'bypass/earth' mod. My miss is more often, about once every 15-20 seconds. I'm about to try running nulon complete fuel system cleaner or wins injector cleaner through a complete tankful and see what happens. Mate who looked at my car also asked if I noticed it during acceleration. I don't know because there's 5 other cylinders and it's not even that obvious during idle (except I hate the sudden chug/gap in exhaust note when it DOES miss), so not like I'm gonna feel it. My mate also says it's a bit of a ba5tard to find problems like this, cos it could be anywhere. Try some injector cleaner like I am and we'll see how we go. Failing that, I'm gonna show some local 'line owners, see what they think and failing that take it to a shop and possibly waste a hundred or so bucks...

    My CiViC

My CXi. Is now FS as I got a 'line
  10. First post: Engine is stock cept the exhaust. Yeah, I notice the more obvious engine activity while A/C cut in and out while idling. Yep, gonna have a few locals listen to it, see what they think. It's a 10/96 R33 GTS-T coupe with HICAS. Came into the country 05/04. In fact, looks exactly like ur car Links. Go the silver
  11. OK after further investigation: A) It doesn't do it at all if I start her up cold in the morning and just let her sit there idling. B) When I was at the lights after 10-12 minutes casual driving (mostly 80km/h between town centres and then about 5 minutes of 60km/h.. so pertty easy going, barely boosted). I listened and heard/felt: car idling and there isn't actually any popping at all. I know what back firing sounds like. This literally feels and sounds like a miss... engines running fine and every say... 5-10 seconds it sounds like the engine simply misses a beat. Sucks. gonna take it to my mate and point it out to him, see what he thinks cos he only drove the car before i noticed and mentioned this sound, he might be able to tell me more if i knows what i'm talking about first hand. A missing cylinder isn't actually audible as a "miss" in the sound of the engine running, right? cos it misses thousands of times a second doesn't it? So I'm at a bit of a loss to what this might be. I might rock up to the local gathering (ACT national museum) and have a few other 'line owner listen and tell me if I should worry or if I'm just paranoid.
  12. Well just bought the car and during the test drive(s) the engine cut in and out from 4k to 5k rpm. They changed the plugs which they said were incorrect model and also had wrong gap and after testing again, it pulls hard and fast through that range now. So.. the plugs should be fine. @ coilpacks: they tested them and said they're fine too. A mate reckons it's just the engine running rich to "help cool the turbo down" after a "spirited" drive. Not sure of the logic there.. and noone else seems to get this 'kick' during idle on a stock engine.. seems mostly to do with post BOV installation and other engine tinkering!
  13. I've been running 98 fuel only. Well I said it was maybe worse with the AC on compared to off in my post, so yes it still does it with AC off. I described it to a friend who drove it and he said it's just the engine running rich to help cool down the turbo once it's done some work. He also said it shouldn't do it at all when the engine has just started up, but that it's expected if the engine/turbo have warmed up a bit after spirited driving. IF this IS the case, I'd be surprised if the 'thud' is meant to kick as hard as it does. Gonna investigate and test more of when it does/doesn't do it. Doesn't sound like anyone else's does this though, which isn't too encouraging.
  14. What about while ur idling at the lights? Every 10-15 seconds... and bad enough that it feels like someone's kicking u in the ass of ur pants lol. The whole car seems to jolt sideways.. That's what i have and it annoys me. Regardless of whether A/C is on or not (thought it might be related since it cuts in and out and makes the engine do stuff while idling).
  15. Hi. Just bought a Series 2 R33. The engine is stock, with just an aftermarket exhaust and a K&N panel filter in the box. While I'm idling at the lights, every say... 10-15 seconds or so... I'll feel something like someone hitting the back of the car with a basball bat. I reckon it's in the exhaust system cos I hear what feels like the engine nearly misfiring... it's weird. But I don't think its an actual misfire cos that would be every cycle right? and this is only every 10-15 seconds. First time I noticed it, I had the A/C on. I'm used to a civic where if i had the A/C on u REALLY new about it.. car lost all guts and u could feel the A/C cut in and out while idling.. I thought this might be the same. I think it *may* have lessened the severity but that may just be wishful thinking. I don't think it should be doing it at all, eh... Car is under warranty and I can get it fixed for free if needed, but I'm just wondering if this really is something "wrong" and wanna know what it is before bothering to go back for something that may not need repairing (I'd be surprised if it doesn't though.. it's a bit freaky when ur sitting there and suddenly it feels like someone gives u a right royal kick in the pants lol). Even my gf looked at me the first time and went "wtf was that?!" and she has NFI about cars. Didn't notice during the test drive cos was having too much fun.. and the NRMA report didn't turn up anything untoward. Anyway, interested in suggestions. Thanks in advance.
  16. NM: got a 96 series 2 for more, but a much nicer car. Pls Close thread
  17. My jaw hurts from smiling hahahahahhaahah No problemo @ oil mod!
  18. Took delivery today (and by that I mean drove it back to work in the lunch break). .. what a *bastard* of a day to get it though! it's pi55in' down like there's no tomorrow, so i had to granny it all the way. Oh well, bring on the sun
  19. Ah.. been reading on this site too much, so think in rwkw now
  20. Yeah I know the power differences, its the reason I got it hahah
  21. Dammit, front suspension bushes are split and a coupla other very minor things need fixing. Another few days wait for me Is this something to worry about? (from an NRMA report) "Corrosion deposits build up in cooling system and hoses. Suggest chemical flush and refill with corrosion protection cleaner" It only got an "M" (minor item to monitor). The other things are "pfft yeah whatever" things e.g. license plate light out dealer's gonna fix them ALL for me anyway. it was just a surprise cos a mate and I couldn't tell anything bad about the suspension during the test drives.
  22. Haha @ good on oldies. Yeah, they're good like that. Okey Dokey @ what ppl have said about warming up the engine and cool down, all makes sense. As for the Civic, I'm gonna advertise it for around $11k-ish and just see what happens for a few weeks. It's a 96 CXi, stock except 1 month old Advanti R-Six 16 inch rims (matt finish), brand new Firenza tyres (the dots haven't even worn off yet), slight lowering and exhaust. It's got about 147 thou kms on the clock. I'm gonna be swapping out the Alpine CD head unit from the new 'line for the mp3 player in the Civic. The Civic's got a Mongoose M80S alarm on it. I've replaced all possible filters and serviced it (sick of Honda screwing stuff up!). Interior in good conditions, exterior has a coupla minor nicks (previous owner's handywork!). I haven't had any trouble in the 18 months I've owned it and obviously it runs on peanuts compared to a skyline. Just wanted something faster. It also has factory roofracks and headlight protectors and floor mats. It'll soon be advertised in allclassifieds or maybe a few other sites, soon as the audio is swapped out. After the transplant I'll also have an CD stacker, Alpine EQ head unit and either a Kenwood or Alpine amp to sell too (not sure which amp I'll keep yet) if anyone is on the look out for that stuff too.
  23. Hmmm, my smilies went to crud ... used to stupid yapoo/msn messenger
  24. Should be getting my Skyline on Tuesday/Wednesday 96 R33. I'm farkin' excited. Noone knows yet so it's gonna be a big surprise. Esp for the GF hahahahah Anyway, a few questions: How long should I give the engine to warm up in mornings on the way to work? Only takes about 15 minutes total to get there (that was in the Civic). BTW, the engine is completely stock except a K&N panel filter and exhaust. And how long should I leave the engine running after getting to work/wherever. Someone told me that if he was just going to the shops then he wouldn't even bother letting the engine cool down. But if hooning around, he reckoned 1-2 minutes. Does this sound right? I'm used to drivin' my Civic CXi (maybe 50rwkw? lol). This is gonna be a blast. A few months ago dad got me a "defensive driving" voucher for that course Rick Bates holds.. but I don't think I need it cos I've only ever had one very minor bingle in 7 years driving. The worst incident was when some lady drove into ME. Anyway, I'd like to take the "performance driving" one instead! Anyone in the ACT done these courses? Man... I CAN'T wait :OD So hypo hahahha Also, if you know someone in the ACT who wants to buy a Civic CXi in good condition, gimme a PM!
