no, you misunderstood, i have a 3 inch with small overall diameter resonator and muffler. the resonator is more like a hot dog. because they are small, they dont cut down the noise much. whereas you could get much bigger size resonator and muffler on a 4 inch and wouldnt be much louder. thats all i was getting at.

might want to watch out with mods on a 15 yr old car. could be just waiting to blow and japs just love doing dodgy jobs on their cars.

if i remember correctly from yr 12 physics, an increase of 3dB doubles the sound. So 83dB is twice as loud as 80dB and so on. that means that 7dB under the limit is a lot of noise difference. with stock turbo and 3 inch exhaust, got a good chance of getting under with a silencer. mate of mine did that and got 89.9dB

bigger exhaust doesnt always mean more noise, it depends on the muffler and resonator. ive been in a car with 4 inch exhaust and it wasnt much more droney than my 3 inch. thats because i have tiny straight through resonator and straight through muffler. even with cheap 2.5 inch cat it drones like a bastard and is 102dB.

i asked an a midas exhaust place about 3.5 and he said that he didnt know of any places that had 3.5 mandrel bender. only place he thought would be a truck exhaust place. but hell, then you could go for 4 or 5 inch. if you can find a 3.5 inch, you may as well buy it.

yeah its illegal, but then agian so is non plumbed BOVs and cooler if have pod, and too low cars, and too loud cars, and big tubos, recaros, metal centred steering wheels, etc. youd be surprised just how many illegal cars are driving around every day.

the bad thing about the sunroof though is that it takes alot of head room away. not good if over 6.2

define "properly" i am planning on piping up the gate when my car is rego'd. the screamer pipe has a flange on it and my front pipe has has a flange that has been covered just in front of the cat. i assumed that all it needed was a pipe going from one to the other.

i have a screamer pipe on an external gate on my car. yes it is very loud, and yeah i guess it sounds like a jet. i hope its not 10k fine cause that would be very bad. if cops are around its not a problem because external gates come on big turbos so they open up late. mine opens at around 4500 revs so its quite easy to drive without it openning if you want. and yes you can pipe them up, they pretty much go straight back into the exhaust just before the cat.

an even better version of the flat cooler is on the Weld s14. it results in better air flow through it.
