  1. Sucks to be stolen from. Houses i've lived in have been broken in to I think a total of 4 times, and it's always outrage, disbelief and anger. As for this thief, he will get his due, with or without your ill wishes. Be glad everyone is safe and only property was lost. You are in business for the chance of profit and the risk of loss. Insurance covers your outlay. You have lost potential profit and that bites, but at least you will not be further out of pocket, and let me emphasize again the fortune of no one being hurt, because that is irreversible and fortunately we are only talking about lost prospective income (ie, money). When the rage has subsided you will realise that to certain people, even that thief's life is worth more than all the stock in your little shop. That being said I hope the investigation is fruitful and that no similar incidents occur in future. Hope your Sister fares well and isn't too shaken. My condolences.
  2. I might be wrong, but it sounds like you took your car to Autobarn, which is a parts store. They came out and looked at it, and offered to sell you some parts. Perhaps they exaggerated the costs because they want to err on the safe side. Either way, you need to see a mechanic. If the guy offering to fix your car doesn't have oily hands from working on cars, you need to find help elsewhere. I agree, the costs estimated are far too high. Castor rod bushes - $100, Steering boots - $40. You could probably get a decent set of second hand rear coilovers for $300 as well, which are best to source from a jap parts wrecker as if they're leaking/blown you can agree exchange (try to make this arrangement prior to purchase). As for the leaks, just put some cardboard on the floor where you park, monitor the oil and other leaks, and track down their location yourself if wanting to save cash. Also, do as much research as possible. READ A LOT of technical articles and learn about your car, or you will either: a) be ripped off by unscrupulous people in the trade who get a sense of how little you know; or b) have to be spoonfed all the information you need while lacking true peace of mind of how things are running so you could enjoy your driving with safety and confidence.
  3. It's a viscous lsd with so much preload that all the spider gears are bound up. I have a thick 85w140 oil in there for that reason, and predictability under heat. Penrite limslip should do the job fine imo, it's made for diffs under heavy load. Have used redline heavyweight before, but sif spend $80+ on diff oil for a backyard locked diff lol What oil were you going to suggest? Oh btw 1400+km's and 3 days straight of tromping up and down the Great Ocean Road and she's still as tight as the day she went in. Very predictable and fine in the wet too, as long as you are sensible about corner entries and shift the weight appropriately.
  4. Running 2.3mm of shims and locked as in the 180sx, all day, everyday. I love it, it's very predictable, and I like the way the car handles with it. In comparison, I hated the viscous lsd before shimming that would open up whenever I tried to put the power down, including in a straight line.. With 230rwkw there was no way I could keep it straight, but with shimming it's perfect. Have heard of people going a year or more with their shims as good as they were when new. Depends on how thick you go and what condition the diff is in. Did it over a few beers with some mates. Cost = Shim $18, Diff oil $25, plus beer and ciggies. Works a treat, and chunks, skips and chirps everywhere lol Will report if it loosens up at all. PS - it's great in the wet if you know how to use your brakes/ebrake!
  5. I don't think i've ever seen a cleaner r32 in that colour. Congratulations on a great purchase, hope she serves you well.
  6. And I thought NS.com members were gay...
  7. Purple Pig. Can't remember if they're in Ringwood or Bayswater, but around that area. Sell heaps of silicon joiners and been recommended to go there by a few people in the auto trade for stuff like that now.
  8. The Evo X is slowly growing on me. Very slowly. Like the Evo 6 TME and 9 the best personally. I think the Evo X looks too much like the VRX models and needs wider wheel arches, more carbon bits or something to make it more beastly.
  9. fiend.

    Federals?

Heard the Kumho Ecsta KU31 are good up front, or the RE001 Adrenalins. Don't rate the Federals in the wet honestly.

    Federals?

Whoever only drives their car ~12 days a year in the wet obviously doesn't live in Melbourne like I do. I drive my car at least twice a week in the rain, as it's my DAILY, and in winter, this can translate to 4 days a week in the rain. Grippier tyres up front really help in the wet. Have had two pairs of Federal SS595's on the front and would not recommend them. Only stuck with them because I managed to get splits in the front inner sidewalls somehow and Federal Motorsport were champs and replaced em for me for free. I used to work at tyre shops and found so much variance in wet weather performance between brands. If you're cashed up, I don't think you can do better than Continental ContiSportContact 2 (they now released CSC 3) personally, and you will thank yourself in the wet. But for performance with budgets in mind, personally I would recommend Kumho Ecsta KU31 on the front. I've heard very good things about the Bridgestone RE001's as well. But since you plan to go locker, I think the ss595 will be great for the rear.
  11. Where can you get it welded for $50?? I want in! Pls pm me. I think you should weld it. It will be tighter than a 2way and more predictable than any shimmed diff. I've heard a number of people say the shims loosen up after weeks or months. I can't vouch for what it's like to drive as i'm waiting to do mine. I hate the viscous, it sucks the big one.
  12. How much for a HID kit to fit a 180sx (think h4)? Was after two prices, the 4100 or 4300 as well as the 6000 please? Also, do you use genuine Phillips globes?? If not, what globes do you package with the kits? Is it $260 or more than that? Question has been asked a few times but not yet answered I don't think... Lastly, are you located in melbourne? Any chances of doing an installation at a good price? PM me your response if you like. Anyone got links to what the HID's look like in a 180sx? Very interested, much appreciated, and will pass the info onto NS.com when I get the answers. We ALL want HID!
  13. Just for those who asked how to remove tint yourselves, you need: - Hairdryer with extension cable to reach wall socket - Razor blade (standard emo issue, come in little packets of 10) Simply use the hairdryer to heat up the film from the inside of the car, then use razor blade to scrape away. Very easy, most of it peels off no problems, doing each window should take less than 10 mins. Have fun!
