  1. lol I don't think people are that serious about it Leesh, I use the girls are stronger than me (among others) thing as a way of keeping ego very much in check. I had a big chip on my shoulders back in the day and my life is substantially better without it
  2. Welcome to my lifting life.
  3. Average would be good enough, in almost all cases I find that my approach to exercise is good enough to get me on par or close to it to the average gym goer. Which is better than the average IT guy that I work with lol.
  4. Righto righto, I'll have a go just so I can have another exercise I know I'm shit at. Will give it a crack tomorrow.
  5. Batman is a top bloke, despite the bale/nolan movies being good.
  6. What do mean Press, bench? I do weighted dips for tri's/lats/shoulder girdle (and bent rows for some of the same areas) I guess I'm just a weak person then, no surprises. Pull ups just doesn't really interest me. I'm assuming if I was fresh maybe I could do 5? How wide a grip do you take and on the flat part of the bar or the angled part? Might try some tomorrow for shits and giggles.
  7. I'd considered these too.
  8. I agree, just saying, more is more and in the second instance, it was also more on the heavier sets so more is still more. Markos would love it.
  9. I still haven't tried any pull ups but am still doing weighted chins. After a 10kg warmup set of 8 I can come close to doing 2 sets of 8 at 25kg. Usually 8-6 or 8-7 , sometimes 7-6 etc but in and around that range. Does anyone know what's considered a decent weight on this exercise? I realize pull ups are harder but I prefer chins as I get some bicep work also which I need as I have girly arms - yes Rev I know you need to pack on x amount of kgs all over to see 1inch improvement in arm size
  10. I'm just saying, in terms of total volume moved. If I go 60x8 116x16 (in 2 sets) That's 2336kg. Currently it's 88x8 116x7 then 116x5 or so For 2096kg. If you didn't count the first set at all as it's warmup (an I could actually get the 116x8 x2 out) I'd still be in front. My goal was to rep in the 120 range, but I'd need some plates for that, which I might get as the long term squat and DL goal will need them anyway (when I can finally get back into leg stuff).
  11. Yeah I can try that I guess. It actually works out as a higher volume total too.
  12. To get up the reps at that weight as I can't add more to the bar (no more plates and no space on the bar) plus the bench I have is rated to 200kg, and I'm already over that a touch. Ideally, to be able to do at least 2 sets of 8 at that weight, using the first set at a lighter weight to loosen up/make sure everything is right. I've added another set before to get the missing reps but that's not the same as doing 2 sets of 8 continuously.
  13. Yeah possibly. I considered dropping to 100 and going sets of 10 if I could manage it, but I think to carry over to 16kg higher and 8 reps it would need to be sets of 15 or something instead.
  14. This was the question. "What methods have you guys successfully used to increase reps for a given weight. Using bench as an example, I'm out of plates and have no room for more on the 7ft bar anyway (lots of small plates). There's 116kg all up inc the bar (8kg standard 7ft bar). I can buy more plates I know, but in the meantime I'm not seeing improvement in rep count at this weight. I'm doing a 3x8 routine which looks like this at the moment. First set lighter 93 (8) 116( never more than 7, I often get half way up on the 8th rep attemp but can't make it without a spotter and I train alone) then on the final set I'll get 4-5 reps tops. I've added 4th and 5th sets before, but I'll get say 4 reps on the next set then 2 or 3 on the last. I've also tried increasing the rest from 2 to 3mins etc. I'm eating more protein, doing no leg work at the moment so am plenty fresh (normally I'd have done squats before bench) but just not seeing the 8th rep appear in that second set or any more than 5 in the last. As I've mentioned before, normally I'd add weight earlier and over time, if you drop back to the original weight you struggled on you find you can do the reps now. But without room on the bar or more plates around, what other techniques can I try? " As you can see Troy I am eating, and I'm seeing some of that appear around my waist so I'm eating enough =\
  15. I must have come at my reps question wrong, let me try again. What supplement or how many calories do I need to improve my rep range for a given weight.

  17. Yeah that's the tough part. Even when I got my first performance car it was a different era, we got away with heaps by comparison with today's standards. It's very anti-enthusiast now days, and why not when you can make so much revenue fining people for bullshit.
  18. It's a good rig, it has a lot of potential. It will be a shame to see him sell it. If you can think of any of your mates who would be interested by all means pass it on.
  19. Everything I've read suggest back focus is a common issue on D90s. Further down in the comments, on guy explains which direction to turn depending on if you've got front or back focus issues. Even if you do end up with a new camera, a second body could be handy if it's working well Good luck.
  20. I never have a problem finishing, for those 10 seconds or less, I'm free.
  21. Hi guys, just wanting to share this as I found it useful. Short version is I found this link, followed it and had success. http://buckscorner.com/home/nikon-d90-autofocus-calibration/ Backstory. I bought my missus a D90 a few years back when it was considered a good camera. On a holiday we had the camera in the boot of the car (in a decent lowerpro bag) but somehow it got lose of where it was packed and it must have taken a fairly solid knock. The 18-55mm kit lens then started showing some binding issues on the focus ring and pics out of the camera didn't seem as crisp, I assumed it was the damaged lens and as the other lens was a 70-300 it was hard to test them back to back to confirm. I recently got jack of struggling with the 18-55 and its lack of low light capability (f3.5 at best) and how it was costing me shots of our new bub. So I bought a 35mm 1.8G DX for it and was disappointed that shots still looked average. I'd suspected the camera may be at fault too so started doing some reading. As there's no place locally to calibrate lenses I knew I'd have to send it to Melbourne so thought I might as well have a go myself and if I got it wrong it was already being sent away. I ran through the focus tests and found it was back focusing noticeably. I made tiny adjustments on the screws as per the article and tried my best to mimic those changes on each of the 3 screws. Took about an hour or so. My result was quite good, faster focusing and much sharper images. I would say that I think it may not be 100% as I suspect that there's some "soft" focus around the edges (at higher F stops so it's not a DOF issue) so the camera may be calibrated anyway, but in the meantime, until I can get down to Melbourne, I'm much happier with the shots coming out of the camera, as is my partner (which is probably even more important...). Keep in mind this is only useful for Cameras that dont have AF fine tune adjustments built in, so if you have a D7000 or something you can make adjustments from the config menu and do not need to be fiddling with screws.
