Didn't know lumley are dealing with the public these days. Lumley General Insurance are not a new insurer - they've been around for years and if anyone has been insured for anything (say business insurance, building/contents, car, etc) through a broker chances are they have been underwritten by lumleys. I worked there on a temp assignment for over a year a few years back. Whilst I wasn't personally dealing with claims or anything like that (just general admin work) I was sitting in the claims dept and I can personally vouch for them as far as insurance companies go. They are a VERY good insurer from what I could see/hear and they seemed very fair in their dealings. I'd definitely recommend them. I dont work there any more (contract ended back in 2004 or something) and have no connections with the company now. I would've gone with them before except they dont insure under 25yo's and also tended to deal through brokers rather than direct with the public...but things may have changed since then. FWIW my stagea is currently insured through Just Car Insurance ($1140) but I've never made a claim with them so cant comment on them. And now since I'm selling the stag (**shameless plug**) I wont need to worry about it...

Stagea - Very Cheap - Series 2! - Now Sold!
pixel8r replied to pixel8r's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Come on guys, my stagea is still for sale... I know the price is LOW but there is nothing at all wrong with the car (maybe I should ask for more?? hehe). Price now dropped to $13000 if anyone is interested, or MAKE AN OFFER Wanting to sell it asap. Need to pay off whats left owing on it. -
I've had a fair bit of interest in mine lately. Stuplidly low price but such is life. however what I wanted to say is that most people who have called (like 99%) are from the forum, so that will be your best method of advertising. Put your ad in your sig and post all over the forum lol!! (not what i did - i only posted in the For Sale section) Good luck with it. Need to be so patient (something i'm NOT good at)...

Just FYI I now have a QLD RWC. There were no issues (as expected). I've also had quite a lot of interest in the car this week, not surprising because it is a VERY low price for a series 2 Stagea! However as yet I still have not taken any deposit on it so it'll be strictly first come first served. Once I receive a deposit I will post again to let you all know -

er, yes. Basically the main limitations at the moment are the fuel pump and intercooler. Yeah that and the cost of mods (both in extra fuel and the initial purchase cost per item). Any increase from this point is only possible through pumping more fuel through the system so I think its safe to say its at its most efficient setup right now, and has a lot of potential hidden away hehe, YES! I'd say with these mods you'd EASILY reach 200awkw. To go further, I'd recommend upgrading the tuning ability, maybe a powerfc (speak to 'tangles' from SA who has done this recently to his auto stagea s1) or otherwise I've heard the GReddy E-manage can work well - provided your tuner knows how to install and tune these on an RB25. Bearing in mind the auto gearbox will start to suffer the further you step above 200awkw. There's a few stageas with 200awkw doing just fine after 1-2 years but 225awkw seems to be the breaking point for a stock auto gearbox. It DOES have the auto shift kit as well so this should give you a bit extra strength in the auto gearbox. It was fitted by MV Automatics in SA so speak to them regarding how much effect the shift kit will have to reliability. -

Should pass roadworthy no probs. I'm happy to organise that (was planning on getting it done this or next week). The only modifications that may be questionable are the larger turbo, safc, and boost controller but all of those are well hidden and the car runs very well so I dont see it being an issue. Either way I would be more comfortable to sell it with a RWC for peace of mind all round. Current SA rego expires 27th March. not sure if its easier to go from SA to VIC or from QLD to VIC...but a QLD Roadworthy cert should make it pretty hassle free anyway... I'm hoping to stick to the $13,500 price because I know it will sell at this price. Its a bargain. Let me know if/when you want to come and have a look at it -

I'm hoping for a little bit more than $10K (understandably). PRICE NOW DROPPED TO $13,500!! This is a VERY good deal for a stagea. If you know anyone who wants one, they will need to be quick to snatch this up!! I will consider all reasonable offers. -
sad to hear its VERY difficult to price stageas in today's market. I completely understand your reasons though. Mine is also for sale due to cost reasons, they just cost a little bit more to keep on the road compared to say aussie cars. The stagea's been a fantastic "sports" wagon to own and drive but the budget is important and I've kind of had my fun with the car and am ready to move on. Life priorities seem to catch up with all of us hey...in one way or another.

Stagea Rattles, Squeaks,and Other Noises.
pixel8r replied to bluesky4me's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
The only really annoying noise I had was with the factory xanavi unit (the large screen where the cd/climate control etc is displayed). Not sure if it affects those without the xanavi unit but its a clicking/creaking noise like plastic flexing or touching against another plastic surface. Seems to be located on the top left corner of the xanavi screen and I couldn't determine if it was the plastic surround that all stageas have (the shiny grey stuff) or the xanavi unit itself... Pressing/thumping in a few different places seemed to fix it for a while... -
Its only worth as much as someone wants to pay for it. Not trying to be harsh but normally when we price cars we try to give it a fair price based on condition, age, mods etc. and most of the time we rate our cars on the higher end of the scale. But the reality is that buyers dont want to pay what its worth, they want a bargain. And it depends how long you want to wait as to what price to sell it at. Personally I'd prefer to lose a bit of money in order to sell it and move on, but its up to the seller. You gain money (sometimes a lot) if you wait, and you gain time if you price it low. Remember when using the online listings as an indicator of price, that the cars are online because they HAVEN'T sold yet...so you cant always take the listed prices as a good indication of the market. Good luck with it though...I'm actually selling my car at the moment too.. (shameless plug)....so I know how fun it is...

Generally speaking, if you think you look good in any car chances are everyone else thinks you look like a tool. Still, I think we all like to take it personal when people check out our cars... It sounds like your mate needs to just let it go a bit though...who cares what others think really...if you drove a lambo they'd all be jealous regardless of how tall/short you were.

Leaking Oil Under Front Diff/steering Rack - Help Pls.
pixel8r replied to pixel8r's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Are you sure thats a leak? when was the oil filter last changed? I'm not sure if I'm looking at your pic right but with the location of the oil filter being where it is, when its changed its near impossible to do it without leaking and spilling oil everywhere. So yeah not sure if you've already tried but clean it up and see if it gets oil back there again or if it stays "clean". -
I thought all skyline (and silvia for that matter) turbos are ball bearing... the R34 turbo is fairly light for its size (plastic comp wheel) but cannot handle more than say 13-14psi of boost before shattering due to being ceramic. I think the R32 turbo has steel wheels (correct?) and can therefore handle more boost. silvia turbos are also steel-wheeled for what its worth. The R34 turbo is also larger (as mentioned) so yeah not sure if that means it would spool slower due to its size or quicker due to its weight...
-
This is fairly common with stageas I think (on freshly imported stageas). Usually cracked turbo gasket - basically the sound you hear is air leaking out under pressure - bit like the sound of wind when you leave one of the windows a tiny bit open in your house. Hope you get it sorted. Shouldn't happen after you get it fixed.

Hello to all you guys in SA!! I've recently moved from Adelaide to Brisbane and due to some unexpected costs I am now wanting to sell the Stagea. Below is the thread in the "For Sale" section but I've linked it here so that if anyone from SA is interested, you can either drive it back or have it transported back to Adelaide and not have to get the rego changed over - just a simple renewal/change of ownership form. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/19...ro-t208055.html I will need to renew the rego in a week or so but would be happy to put another 3 months on for anyone who is interested. The car is very clean, no accident damage at all as far as I know. I'm the first owner in Australia and have owned it for 2 years. During that time it has proved very reliable with money only being spent on regular servicing and improvements. Over $5K has been spent in upgrades to Exhaust, Turbo, Tuning, Boost Controller, and the Auto Transmission (shift kit). It drives very nice and in my opinion is a very nice blend of Performance Wagon and Family Car (or you may just need more boot space/doors). For those who dont know, the S2 Stagea shares the engine (RB25DET NEO) and auto transmission (tiptronic) with the R34 skyline GT-T, and also some suspension parts and the fantastic ATTESA AWD system are shared with the R33GTR (although I think the electronic config of ATTESA is tuned different to be more suited to the wagon). Price is negotiable. Please make an offer if you're interested. Thanks. P.S. please note the photo in my avatar has been edited a little, but the ones in the above thread are legit.

Help Me Defend The Skyline Pride
pixel8r replied to R33_Rob's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I believe the supra's (and soarer etc) biggest downfall is that the back end is so light and they are RWD only. Very difficult to get (and maintain) traction. If only toyota put a 2JZ into something with AWD...that also looked as good as the supra does. oh well. -
Here's my take on the whole thing... The rest of my family is all pro-ford and pro-v8 etc... I dont mind v8's, they sound great, and watching the v8 supercar races on tv is pretty cool. As far as which is better, I believe that within reason, turbo cars will go quicker for less money, but technically speaking v8's will last longer and handle a lot more power if you're into ridiculously high kw numbers... v8's can make big numbers and still last 300,000+ kms due to being bigger and therefore stronger. As for road-going v8's they have a lot of low-down torque so the engine spends a lot of time hardly revving which also helps it to last longer - only problem they often have is auto gearboxes tend to crap themselves due to the increased torque at low revs....only a problem for people like me who prefer an auto (lazy i know but hey). Turbo's dont suffer this so much because most of the torque os at higher revs and you can stay off boost until the trans warms up etc. but on the other hand the jap engines normally rev pretty high so are not as likely to last as long overall. I'm generalising here so there will always be exceptions. But the bottom line for me is this: V8's are powerful etc. but turbos are way more fun. The whole power delivery is so much more involving in a turbo. There's no comparison to boost. V8's get the feeling of being pushed back in the seat but not like boost - where its a positive feedback loop - meaning that the acceleration increases very rapidly rather than being constant acceleration. Last thing I want to mention is that you CAN combine them and have the best of both worlds. I've always preferred turbos to superchargers, particularly with v8's since you already have enough torque at low revs with a v8 so you dont NEED the supercharger and would get more benefit with a turbo since it would spool instantly with a v8 and there are no losses on the system so you'd get a much larger power gain. 6 on one, half a dozen on the other though...both can work very well, depending on the application. very hard to have a discussion like this with hot-headed v8 lovers (or hot-headed turbo lovers) though...

pixel8r replied to pixel8r's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Not bad huh? Its a little bit higher here in Brisbane due to more congestion on my route to work, but on a 10-20min trip to work in very much stop-start traffic here it still gets less than 12.5L/100km which i think is fantastic for a car of this size and performance. -
Stagea General Question For New Proud Owner Of A Stagea! :)
pixel8r replied to FULOCK's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
1. see above 2. no idea 3. yes there are tweeters on the a-pillar, well at least on mine. 4. not sure what u mean cos with mine (xanavi unit) the cd player and air/con are mostly in english. the things you need to know are: top left button is cd player - i gather you've worked that out by now. down further on the left near the bottom you'll see two buttons side by side. One is tv tuning and fairly useless in australia. The other one (i think its left?) is your display settings, you can change contrast and some other settings but i'm not sure of the specifics. The most used one for me was the bottom right button on the screen will switch the display off - very handy for driving at night. For a/c the buttons on the right hand side should be self-explanatory. On the main air/con screen the only japanese is on the two big buttons at the bottom of the screen. the left one will show you the outside (ambient) temperature briefly - i've found it to be fairly accurate. the right one will manually change which vents are used - ie. if you want the air on your face only, face & feet, etc. etc. This automatically switches to manual mode, just the same as if you adjust the fan speed manually. In general i just use the turny knob thing to adjust temperature and leave it on auto. I find the climate control works fairly well Good luck with it. -
?? i didn't type that. someone else must have edited my post. weird
