  1. Ok, so out driving up the mountain, third gear and I gave it some sauce to climb the incline. Then TAP TAP TAP TAP (no bang) louder with revs, and consistent with the engine spinning. We limped it back home and killed the engine, the one time I didnt check oil levels... she drank 1.5 litres to show full. I will get my mechanic to come and look at it, but does anyone have any thoughts on options I may have... if it doesnt cost too much I will fix that engine, if it needs a full rebuild can the cost easily blow out to a point where I should have bought a new engine? I have a few dollars set aside (was for a house deposit, damn) but I cant throw my chequebook at it... Thanks Oh, I dont need a lecture, lets just take it as read I feel pretty bad about it
  2. Drop in a pod filter, I have stock bov + pod, it makes noise
  3. I would hazard a guess it for sound deadaning (got to somewhere) I dont see any reason why you cant remove it, but why not just leave it, it shouldnt be doing any harm...
  4. Hey dezz, Im just thinking, I am into dance music a bit too, hard house to be more accurate, and I prefer my 10" sub to 12" jobs, just because I find it really nice and punchy (not to say 12s arent, thats just me) Now I dont have rear speakers, but are they really that bad? if you get some decent ones and you can set the fade front to rear... Competition use they are a no go, but for daily driving is there anyone who has put some nice rear speakers in? and how did they sound good/bad?
  5. Generally you will have: Black - Earth Yellow - Constant power Red - ACC (not the air conditioner, seen that once before ) Blue - Remote switch for amps Then go trial and error for speakers - my brain is'nt up to remembering that much I used to work in an electronics shop and at least once a week various dodgy looking characters, usually smelling like they have been smoking da herb, would come looking for the plug to fit into 'thier' head unit... this golt old quickly, I wanted to tell them 'just remember to pull the wiring out while you are stealing the bloody CD' -Im not implying yours may have been stolen, just reminded me of a story, dont write back, it was a joke
  6. I have read thet you can fit up to 6x9's in there, 6.5" will fit nicely - If you check the mounting depth, I didnt and ended up having to make angled pods with MDF and a lot of glue, sticky tape and chewing gum cost my sanity dearly. Check out the sticky for the bracket template.
  7. So what's your thoughts wat eva? have you gleaned any useful info? I think the main idea everyone is trying to get accross is be safe. Down here in tassie the paper came out a few days ago with three people dead in the space of 16 hours on the front page, imagine how your parents would feel if they were to find out thier son has just died in a car accident. Whatever you do, have fun, be safe, get a decent car that you like - one of the things that keeps my sky on the road is I couldnt bear to see it bent Oh and one thing I have learned in the last few years - my parents werent that bad after all
  8. Um whereabouts in japan?... I would like some decent seat covers too, after some individual broke into my car, knifed the seat and tried to burn it - they also pinched the head unit, and tried to remove the rear wing with a screwdriver... Kind gents, it was such a burden, having things the way I liked them
  9. I just want to send a big thanks to the guys from the last few posts, especially satanic (I did get the general gist), maccatack, and R31 Nismoid. Although I coceed my question was a little confusing at first it was all in the last line of my original post (read it again) Why does everyone have to get so defensive?, cant we all jus' get allong? Everybody after me "Koombyah m' son of rajab, koombyah..." "Life is too important to be taken seriously" Oscar Wilde P.S I apologise for my spelling. P.p.s Dave's useless fact for today: Koombyah (see p.s. #1) means 'come by here
  10. Easy tiger, I have a plan in mind which baisically runs handling first, power seccond. I didnt mean to preach at anybody, im sorry if it sounded that way, believe me - my girlfriend is currently in India studying buddhist philosophy, these guys spend 6-8 hours a day meditating, then prancing around preeching how great it is to be serene - these cats have done brain scans which show a that the part of the brain which controlls happiness is way overactive - I can tell you why, and it aint because of any buddhist priciples, its because for 6-8 hours a day they dont have to put up with ar$eholes like the rest of us Now , you all know my chosen path to modify my car, but it seems that some guys choose chase the dyno sheet like the cars in magazines, I merely want to understand why they do it? Is it the thrill of the hunt (like satanic) the dyno day glory? its just in Tassie we dont have the same car culture as you guys have up in the sunny end of things, I just want to gain an insight into the emotion - not to debate the idea that you cant have tourque + power if you do things a cretain way thats all
  11. A nice, well positioned stencil always makes me smile, a little care an attention to grafitti goes a long way Allthough I am too chicken to do it myself - Aaaaah  Nice work her32
  12. Ok, I dont think I really worded that question well, my question wasnt really about a specific power figure, but more why the power chase in the first place, why not learn to drive the car first, then decide what will make it fast? what is it about driving on the mainland that negates the need for development and straight to high hp? what type of driving do you buy these cars for? edit: like satanic's reply, just the your reason behind the power chase, what does it for you?
  13. Ok, silly question mabey, but I have read so many posts saying 'I have just bought a skyline and want 200kw'... I an of the understanding that to achive a high top end output you sacrifice low down tourque ( I have driven a few cars which are testimony to this) but I find the low dow torque is a major factor in the driving experience, driving a high hp car around my favourite mountain pass is nice, but when you have to really drive it on boost to get the most out of it, its nowhere near as much fun as my near stock sky (which I bought a month ago). Now my plans are to improve the efficiency of the standard hardware - increase airflow to the pod/intercooler, mabey a waterspray for the cooler, and leave it as the entirely drivable beast she is. I think it could be just a shift in paradyme, as here in Tassie I cant think of a road that is straight for more than a few hundred metres, including highways, is why tourque is important to me, so my question is to those who have decided to chase a power goal, for what purpose do you do this? what type of driving do you do? I dont want to start an argument, I ask merely for information
  14. Pwhoar, having to choose between those, mate I dont envy you... But if I was forced, at say gunpoint I would take the black one but dice the number plates
  15. Justa a quick aside to this question, would the RB20 turbo set up be ok on a RB25 NA - would this last? would you get away with the RB25DEt computer? I ask merely for information
  16. Congrats on the skyline, I bought my first one a month ago, there is a point where you have got to stop dreaming and just do it but listen to Nathan G1, my advice, go and have a play in a paddock or on a beach somewhere - its great fun, and you will learn a lot about car control, I do it frequently - the first time I got a car out of shape I was 18, it was my parents volvo in the wet and I ended up parking it in a ditch. How embarrasing. You could do yourself a lot of damage with the speeds a skyline can reach Sorry about the lecture, Im 25, my friends are getting married for smeg sake, im getting OLD this SUX - Shut up dave!
  17. I've gotta say, the fluffy dice are a nice touch
  18. Yeah, I have some black 16" and wouldnt mind some standard ones, where are you, and how much tread are on them? mine have 3 week old tyres...
  19. Into a crowd... injuring people..... Stop me before I go too far I once had a car full of bogans drive past while I was walking home, they yelled something at me so i replied "bring it on b1tch" at the top of my lungs (ok so I had had a few) did they stop? nope, bogans are full of hot air
  20. MacGuyver is right, track down one of these steering wheel puller's, I think it is possible to do damage to the collapsable steering colums if you dont -Disclamer on that last statement: not completely sure, something someone told me once years ago, could be wrong, i dunno, but why take the risk?
  21. The R32 comes with a RB20DET, R33 RB25DET I picked up my R32 GTS-4 a moth ago, and im learning heaps, its great I got distracted last night (supposed to be cleaning up ) and modified the interior light to use a ccfl tube, why? im not sure, I think I might be addicted
  22. I think slamm is on the money, I also learnt a few lessons early on, like when I parked my parents volvo in a ditch - how embarrasing... Experiences we learn in life can be put into two lists I find - a short list of the things I learned the easy way, and a long list of things I learned the hard way... I would like to seccond a motion for a thread on safe driving tips and lessons on car control - you dont get many chances to learn how to control a slide at 140 kph...
  23. Its probably not what you want to hear right now, but it is the motto of my motorsport club Hasten Slowly Personally, if I had a turbo car when I was your age I probably would have killed myself, also on a lighter note, I have a friend who owns a R33 non turbo and he loves it, its reasonably quick and looks good and is reliable (some 300zx's arent unfortunatley) take it easy tiger, and hopefully you will still be around in a few years an be driving that GTR
  24. You can never have too much power  just turn it down before it distorts, as an aside, if you have a dual coil sub, run them at 4 ohm - running at 2 & 1 ohm is for competitions, it heats up your amp and cabling and effectivly gives you the same sort of power with reduced lifespan from your equipment
  25. a little blueness is normal, voltage wont alter that - you have done well
