Hi guys, Last night I was driving my car fairly hard for a short while and once when I put it into 2nd and floored it the revs just climbed rapidly to 7k and the car went nowhere and I smelt clutch straight away, so anyway I put it into 3rd and just cruised along for a little while then tried it again in 3rd and the revs climbed slowly again but the car went nowhere, I then drove home nice and easy and put the car away for the night and drove to work this morning going no higher then 3k, I didnt notice the clutch slip at all on the way to work but as soon as I got out of the car when I got to work I could smell the really strong clutch smell again, I got a mechanic to look at it for me and we took the car for a drive and he couldnt make the clutch do any noticable slips but we could both still smell the clutch very strongly whenever we stopped. He done a test where he stopped the car, put it in 4th revved to 2k then let the clutch out and the car stalled instantly which is apparently what its meant to do if your clutch is ok and not slipping. Anyway on the way home from work same thing drove very sedately and could still constantly smell the clutch burning. The clutch is a Exedy sports tuff and is 20 000km old does it seem like its on its last legs or could this be something else?

Hey dude ive encountered this problem a few times, the first time it was the spark plugs so had new ones put in and all was well again then it started back up a few months later and it turned out to be my coils breaking up. Put industrial silicone over all of them to keep them insulated so the spark wont escape and havent had a missfire since

I bought the turbo second hand and it didnt come with an actuator so CRD just used the standard one from my stock turbo as they said this was fine. Is it likely I will pick up more power once this problems fixed? Car currently has 200rwkw

Update: Tonight I decided to see if putting a pair of pliers onto the actuator arm and pulling as hard as I can towards the front of the car does anything and the noise goes away 90% So im guessing this pretty much confirms this is definately due to the actuator? Will probaly explain why the car is fairly laggy.

Yeah it could be that is their anyway I can confrim if bearings are the problem without taking the turbo off?

Hey guys, I have a R32 GTST with a RB20DET, About 2 months ago I had my stock turbo changed to a 2nd hand turbo which had been hi flowed, I had it changed over at CRD and once I got it back I noticed straight away a strange rattling type sound that was coming from the turbo, I had this looked at by CRD and they said it was because I was missing 2 manifold studs. I put the car into another mechanic and had all the manifold studs gaskets etc replaced and got the car back yesterday and now its still making this noise! Its kind of hard to explain but the car still boosts normal and doesnt make any strange squeels etc on boost but on idle you can hear a slight rattling sound coming from the turbo then if you rev it to 1500rpm or so on the rev down it does the rattle a fair bit louder, it doesnt make this sound at all revving up or when the car is on boost, only very slightly on idle or on rev down in neutral. If you get under the car and listen you can hear the rattle go right down through the exhaust, I tried to locate exactly where the noise was coming from by putting a screwdriver on the turbo and listening with my ear on handle and I noticed its loudest on the wastegate arm rod thing, so im guessing its either the turbo is on its way out or that wastegate arm is loose somehow and needs to be tightened? Im fairly sure its not a gasket as all the gaskets are brand new and ive had a gasket go on me before and this sounds nothing like that. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Was out at the drop zone at Llandilo in my Gemini today and spotted a R31 wagon thrashing through all the puddles and ripping it up, top effort mate

230 or so is my max, think it was at close to 8k in 5th at this speed, read it off the Power FC hand controller, car still felt very stable (tein coilovers help with this a lot)

Update: PROBLEM FIXED!!! Turned out it was the shim plate thing was rubbing along the disc constantly even though the pads were brand new, got my dad to look at it today and he solved the mystery for me, went on a nice squeak free drive after that. Cheers to everyone who offered advice.

Im fairly sure their just normal Bendix pads, the thing is they dont squeak at all when braking, its the cruising along when im not touching the brakes at all that they continuously squeak, as soon as I apply the brakes to slow down the squeeling stops.

Have changed brake pads twice mate, last time was Ferodo, this time Bendix (brand new put in yesterday)

Yeah man mine stops doing it when I apply the brakes too! It annoys me so much I try to drive the car as little as possible its so embarrising its the most ear piercing sound ever.

Hi guys, Ive been having a really annoying problem lately with my brakes, they squeak CONSTANTLY I mean like even when their not in use the rear left squeaks as im driving along not using the brakes at all it might stop for 20 secs here and their but its very rare. I changed the pads to brand new ones and the problem was still their so I took it to the brake place and they said my discs needed machining so I got all the discs machined and all new brake pads all round. Drove out of the workshop all was fine for about 3kms and I was enjoying being able to drive without the ear piercing sound of the brakes squeeling constantly but then all of a sudden the noise came back and its been doing it constantly just like before. Anyone got any ideas what it could be thats causing this and what I can do to fix this (I cant get it back to the brake place until Monday as they are closed now)
