  1. Seeing Chris in your first post and looking at the entry list I should say who I am (Not putting full names up online of course) It is Paul with the yellow R31 Coupe, Cookie and I will see you at the island! Unless of course you are not the Chris I am thinking of! No matter seeing we will be in adjoining garages, we will see you anyway! I reckon entries will need to be in with the promoters by the Wednesday in the openeing week next year to avoid missing out!
  2. Just to give anyone thinking about it a bit of a stir along. I am in the same team as Fatz, if anyone wants to get into the event this year your ONLY way in is with a team that needs another driver. Our entry was in on the Thursday of the week entries opened and we are team 47 our of 50! There are no team entries left and a reserve list of teams as well. Most reasonably quick cars were doing somewhere between 2:00 and 2:15 last year, with up to 50 cars out there at once your times get knocked around a fair bit, plus it will almost cretainly rain, it is the Island after all!
  3. Just to stick in my two cents on cages. Normally the wording you see is that cages if fitted must comply with CAMS specifications. The only way to say that a cage was CAMS "Approved" would be to have the car log booked for competition with the cage in it. Essentially most cars in most events are not required to have a cage but if you have a cage fitted it should comply with CAMS specs (Which pretty well mirror FIA specs) regardless of if your car must have one for the event you are doing or not. Saves a few of the beauties I have seen, like a Torana with a cut down trampoline frame inside it. I am not kidding! Another I have seen has the main hoop in front of the drivers head!
  4. Bit of a moment there yes! Not as hairy as the VL Walkie going off in the first corner from the other vid. It really shows that it needed a taller diff for the island given you got it into fifth gear into the first corner from a standing start.
  5. Next video, this is race 4 on Sunday afternoon. I had to ditch the last lap to get it under the ten minute mark for youtube. Still processing when I posted this so the video quality should get a little better.
  6. I should have another run up on youtube late tonight. I will do the last race of the weekend next. The Saturday footage is not as good due to camera mounting issues, too high in the car in the first race on Saturday (Great view of the mirror and your eyes but not much else) and the vibration was playing hob with the mount in race 2. On a one inch long alloy strip mount the vibration was making the camera head twist at one RPM and shake side to side at another. Gaffer tape fixes everything! I will figure out a better mount for it before it goes in the car again.
  7. We have a Velo Podium in our HR31 track car. The other bloke in the car used it as his daily driver seat for a couple of years and loved it. It proved it's worth at one stage when he was hit in the rear quarter by the car behind him while he was turning right and spun off a gravel road into the bushes. It just held him in and took him with the car, he did not get so much as a bruise. The only problem with the seat was that the trim (It was one of the red trimmed ones) both faded badly and broke up after a couple of years so it was obviosly not UV resistant. We had it re trimmed by an auto trimmer and it is still there performing well after a couple of years in the HR. Comfortable and very supportive for a reasonably entry level seat. He drove from vic to Queensland and back in it and still loved it.
  8. Funnily enough I missed the link you posted when I was reading through the thread Bec. Hopefully it stays up this time. I am really looking forward to having a run there but I reckon that it will be quite a few runs before I would be looking for the limit. A couple of spots look pretty unforgiving of mistakes (The Eau Rouge moment at the very bottom of the track for one) I think anything with any sort of straight line performance is going to require a lot of respect until at least the half way point of the run where you start heading up again.
  9. I am a Kilmore lad in Vic.
  10. Hey all, just thought I should actuall introduce myself. I have been an irregular browser and very occasional poster on SAU for some time now. The real name is Paul and the weapon of choice is a HR31 coupe that is currently evolving into a more and more track weapon as budget allows (In other words, slowly and with heaps of labour by myself and only farming out anything that I can truly not do properly)
  11. Just to add to my last post. I found some video footage this morning of the last working bee day at the new hillclimb. People that showed up to help were allowed to drive around it gently to have a look, it will be a challenge to go fast on. I think mid range grunt and quick spooling on turbo cars along with good traction and a complete lack of understeer will be the keys to a fast run. And there are a few corners that should be able to be strung together for those that are into drift (Assuming they are going to run drift events there)
  12. The first event at the new track is supposed to be on 06 July, it is looking pretty awe inspiring. From memory the bitumen is 6.5M wide. I have had a walk around it during construction and I can tell you it is going to be a lot more scary to drive than the old track, as well as around three times as long. There are a number of blind, cresting, off camber corners and spots where the track is going to just disappear from in front of you. Think of going over Skyline at Bathurst.
