  1. You got me there; it's a piece of crap with a piece of crap V8 in it. Maybe the new owner can throw a few grand at it and make it the best V8 C210 skyline EVER, or leave it as is and impress us all by doing an enormous one-wheel-burnout in the wet.
  2. Classic Skyline forum users usually have to explore other parts of SAU to get this kind of comedy gold.
  3. I stand corrected; I just took a guess that an all-alloy lightweight V8 was still going to be a little heavier than a straight 6. Common conversion in it's day or not, I still don't really like the sound of slowing up 200 ponies on the standard C210 brakes, nor would I bank on the drivetrain holding together too long. Crap breaks and falls off my car all the time and it's making a less than 140KW!
  4. Upgrading the brakes and cruising the streets sounds good, but you'll need to convince an engineer that the car is going to cope with the engine to get it registered! Either that or pull the 4.4 out, pop in an L24 for a day, and reswap after rego... not the end of the Earth, but still a bit of mucking around. That's what I meant in the first post when I pondered who was chasing the car; it's going to be a bit of work to get on the road (legally anyway!), or buckets of work to get on a track, without coming unstuck like the Wakefield MR30. Still, playing Devil's advocate for a minute, living with any modified C210 is going to need compromises galore and deep pockets one way or the other... and when did you last see a coupe in silver for sale?
  5. Granted, the P76 looks like a tank, it's a fair assumption. Good news at least is the 4.4L is a lightweight alloy block that shouldn't weigh too much more than the L6. Still, at the end of the day you'd probably have a C210 that goes as fast as a... err... Leyland. I'm actually a big fan of both the P76 and the C210, I'd just prefer a Datsun with an L engine and/or a P76 with a 4.4.
  6. Twice the weight? A standard skyline is 1150kg compared to the P76's 1250kg. By the time you swap the V8 there wont be much in it. That being said, a well maintained 4.4 should be good for around 200HP, more than enough to destroy the Skyline's brakes, auto, diff, driveshafts...
  7. I am using off-the-shelf Pedders red springs over koni red adjustable shocks, with magna ventilated disk and hilux calipers. Pedders (polyurethrathanesomething) bushes throughout. These are all bolt on modifications only. The car (also a 78 C210) stops and corners really well. I would never knock the S13 conversion, I'm just way too lazy to go down that path, and have no welding/fabricating skills to speak of anyway.
  8. Not sure who exactly this is appealing to: not engineered, no go-fast bits for track day, zero overseas interest due to the mods and a fair effort to restore to original. Still, I guess you take whatever C210 coupe you can get these days.
  9. I know a wrecker who has left one of these out in the rain for about 10 years, and he still wants $800 for it! What a nuff nuff... Anyway, for a bare block $200 is cheap, $300 reasonable, and $400 plus it'd want to be special/in great nick in my opinion. Looks like yours still has all the plumbing and assorted goodies still attached, so $250 is still a very good deal.
  10. Not as far as I know. Nearly every Z fan running twin carbs is using small-dome 3 or 4 screw Hitachi, not 260z or SU, so in popularity stakes it's all about Hitachi.
  11. Having been down this path myself: single carby to 260Z carbs, to SU canbs to triple webers, 3 different gearboxs, 3 engines, 3 sets of suspension, 6 years of dicking about etc, I'd give you this advice: choose a plan, and stick to it. Your SU's are going to bolt straight up to what you have and the car will go about twice as fast, except for the fact that they are likely to need a rebuild (think about a grand). There is no manifold for 2 sidedraft webers - they won't fit on your twin SU manifold, so unless your budget stetches to 3 webers, manifold, linkages, filters and tuning (think about $2,000 - 3,000 min, and then more for a retune if you change the engine later). Extractors and exhaust, great idea. 5 speed, cool! Lightened flywheel, sure. Think about a fresh heavy duty clutch too. Aftermarket drift steering wheel... err... gross, but whatever turns you on. 8 inch Watanabes... no chance in hell, unless you are planning on cutting the guards up and finding and over-guard flare kit out of Japan. Budget, what... $2,000 if you go for decent looking copies. Adjustable suspension... again, entry-level King springs and shocks are going to start at a grand. If you are just crusing why do they need to be adjustable? Basically, budget about $10,000 to $15,000 for the work you're describing, or stick on the SU's, exhaust and 5 speed and lower springs for about a 7th of that, or buy a smashed Datsun 280zx and bolt up the complete injected L28 etc and go about as fast as you would with the SU's, again for a fraction of the cost. You'll probably want to put aside more money for bushes, bearings and brakes. Good luck, it's a lovely car.
  12. I'd like to nominate your rx7 as an honorary classic skyline.
  13. They are 240z carbies, made in Japan by Hitachi. They have a smaller dome that the "genuine" English-made SU, and are probably easier to live with, too.
  14. I'm still around. I still have my white skyline, but it's fate is hanging in the balance. There are a couple of interested parties, most of whom are interstate rather than overseas. Despite the values in Kuwait I'd like the car to stay in Australia... I can fantasize about buying it back one day! Happier news, I have gotten rid of my Sigma (the kind of cute, but impractical, coffee cart tow vehicle) and upgraded to another very cheap, but bigger and somewhat cooler car; the Datsun 260c - 1 owner, deceased at 91 years. It's nice to have a weekend workhorse with a bit of character.
  15. Mario, KWD4500 is a bit of a lowball offer. This middle-of-the-road coupe is going for 5. http://www.q8hp.com/21672_'81_Nissan_Skyline_GT.htm Plenty of other surprisingly clean c210/240k's on the site.
  16. I hear you Dennis. I warned the guy that I'd be opening an unpaid item dispute in order to get the cost of selling the car back, and he said that was fine and he'd acknowledge the bid was an accident. He seemed genuinely bothered that I had been put out, instead of ignoring my calls, messages, death threats etc. like ususally happens when someone bids with no intention of paying. The thing that I furking HATE about ebay is this - even if I get the money refunded it will come back as ebay credit (list the next $50 worth of items on ebay on the house) instead of $50 of actual money going back onto my credit card balance. Cutting down the credit card balance is the reason for this stupid and humiliating sale in the first place. I also hate that genuine accident or no, no seller can ever see how many unpaid bidder strikes have been listed against this guy. It may be a first offence, he might be averaging one a week. Who'll ever know? Even if the bidder clocks up a ton of strikes he gets suspended from ebay for a week (GASP!!!) they are able to open a new ebay account straight away using the same address and credit card details. Anyway, finished ranting for now, but not bothering with ebay again till I've cooled off.
  17. No. Fake bid by younger brother of ebay account holder, apparently.
  18. The sale is going poorly. Very poorly. Tons of interest, but no commitment. I actually thought that my C210 would sell due to all the expensive go-fast bits hanging off it, but then modified cars are more of a pain to register. I took the car back to it's garage today... no point it sitting out in the rain for nothing. Some good news is that I scored a trial shift for tommorrow in the city, and had a busy day in my coffee van at a race meet at Sandown over the weekend, so the financial pressure to sell has eased a tiny bit. I guess we'll see what happens... I'm still in the red, but there's no point giving the car away.
  19. Now considering offers. Ricky, since my mate's scrap metal business folded, that C211 has been sitting in his garage pretty much as it left WA. My car won't be going overseas; no-one is going to shell out $5,000 for a half cut, and it won't be going over complete without any LHD dashes left on the planet to convert it. $1,500 is about the absolute maximum offer for a car that's going to get the chop, and emailing the ebay seller early with an offer below the starting bid is standard practice, which is why your C211 disappeared before you got a chance to bid. Mags, I'd be bidding/calling the next seller early to express interest; too many cars vanish from ebay 12hrs into the auction.
  20. Yeah it's tough! To add salt to the wound I've been offered some really interesting swaps: 240k coupe, Valiant VG coupe, R32, Yamaha cafe racer, etc... anyway, there'll always be interesting cars around, but I hopefully won't be broke forever!
  21. I'm going to let the auction run, but there is a special discount for members of this forum There's been quite a bit of interest; so I'm starting to feel sick.
  22. In all honesty, it's a bit like ripping off a bandaid. It sucks, but at least it'll all be over quickly. I'd probably make the most cash by sticking a stock L24 and 5 speed in it and painting it all white, (and sending it overseas,) while selling the LSD, box, L28 and carbies here, but I couldn't bring myself to pull it apart. I'd be happy, well less sad anyway, to see it go as it is to an SAUer. Who knows, if it doesn't sell in the first go I'll probably leave it for the time being, and start playing with it again when I've got a stable income.
  23. Also Skittles, if you get the chance I'll make some time for you to check out the car before the close of auction. Send me a PM, or email [email protected].
  24. Yeah, it's been a pretty brutal 12 monthes financially. Got sweet F.A. shifts as a teacher, and my weekend coffee van project cost a fortune to set up, and is paying itself off at a snails pace. I'd like to tell you that I was funding another Datsun or something awesome, but I'll be throwing the money at debt. Yuck. I'll keep lurking around the forum until I'm cashed up enough to buy another Skyline. Please try not to laugh and point if you see me cruising past in my other car... an '82 Sigma.
  25. It's not a biggie. My car's oil pick up (originally from a 260z???) has been cut, pointed in the opposite direction, and welded again to suit an 280zx sourced L28 with a C210 sump. I can confirm that you will need to modify your oil pick up, but don't expect a major hassle. Better news, your front facing sump bolts straight up to the L28 block. The biggest hassle you might face is deleting one of your 2 dipsticks (a sawn-off dipstick should do the trick). Again, from my experience, 144HP odd at the rear is going to feel like you're in a rocket compared to standard C210 arrangement... as for 250 plus... that's actually an awesome number, being near on double the factory output, but possibly waaaay more poke than the original C210 drivetrain and brakes are going to cope with for long. Fun though!
