Spotted: Classic Lines For Sale
coupe72001 replied to D-limo's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
I guess you are right, it's not an unreasonable price for a super clean car of any description. As far as the pics show the body looks pretty damn good. Even the bumpers are straight...ish. As important as the body, other than the cracked dash the interior looks brilliant. Very unusual to see the drivers seat bottom without tears, or even creases by the look of it. The center console lid looks like it's never had an elbow on it. Kind of odd to have a replacement engine in a car that looks like it's seldom been driven though. -

http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Automotive/Classic-Unique-Cars/Vintage-Classic-Cars/AdNumber=TP005101027 Fairly straight and original looking auto C210 sedan, except L28, bonnet pins, incorrect mirrors, club reg. $4,300. I actually know someone here in Melb who apparently regrets selling his white/beige C210 sedan to Kuwait, and would like to have it back again. That being said, I don't think he (nor anyone else) would be too thrilled to part with $4,300 for it. -

Wanted C210 Stove Top Lights
coupe72001 replied to nd4spd's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
For the kind of money a nice set is going for now maybe its worth buying the cheapest, ugliest set of series one chromies you can find out of Japan and have them dipped locally in plasti-chrome. They'll look mint and hopefully come in under four figures. Also and oddly, buying piece-by-piece might work out cheaper than a complete set. Single taillights often seem to go for less than 1/3 the cost of a complete set of lights plus the garnish. Import monster will let you hold the odds and ends in Japan until you have collected all the bits you need. For reference my complete set was about $700 landed, in excellent condition four odd years back. Happy hunting. -

Rabee, if you win that C210 there's a few parts Ill buy from you. That nice black interior could come in very useful! D -

Gone already; looks like someone got in early with a cash offer. I bet the brown 240k sedan goes for a decent amount, either that or the ad also gets pulled and we'll never know. -
Not a bad idea; I'd save a small fortune on otherwise wasted oil! Does it affect oil pressure having the blow by gases dump back to the block/sump instead of atmosphere?
-
The head got cleaned up and all new valves at the same time as the block was reco'd and then re-cleaned up 2000km later when I jumped a tooth on the cam sprocket and bent half the valves. The head should still be in excellent condition, seeing I haven't had any big mishaps since then. From memory I struggled to find proper break-in oil, and doused the pistons and rings in regular oil prior to install with my quite good piston compressor. The car doesn't blow any smoke, so hopefully I didn't damage the rings much in the early days. I also took care running the engine in. Jason, if you get a chance to provide a pic of the inlet that you have plumbed the can to that would be awesome. Same goes for anyone else who has a problem-free catch can set up.
-
Also thanks for the tip with the steel wool noddle! D
-
I thought blow by was a product of oil etc escaping past worn piston rings. Mine are less than 10,000kms, and the bores were tidied up at the same time... although I did fit the pistons myself (sinking feeling in stomach). Jason, with your plumbing plan, would it go: rocker cover to catch can, catch can to crankcase breather, (pod filter delete). Basically a sealed system - or did I get the wrong end of the stick? Cheers, D
-
Hi all, I don't have an air filter box because I have too many carbs on my L28. I have plumbed a catch can from the breather pipe on the rocker cover, and too the crankcase breather on the block. Said catch can vents exhaust gases through a small pod filter on top. Anyhow, that's the theory. What actually happens is the catch can sprays liquid oil all over the engine bay like a garden sprinkler through the now oil soaked filter. An attempt to empty the catch can found that it was bone dry, every cup of oil lost has sprayed around the engine. I may as well have no catch can and let oil dump directly out of the breathers, I'm mopping it up at the end of the drive anyway. Any ideas why my engine (flat tops, mild cam, balanced, extractors and carbs) is so keen to expel it's life blood under acceleration, and why my catch can is so inappropriately named? Cheers, Drew

Don't hold your breath. You car needs to be bought locally by a middle man, their commission added, shipped ($3000) to Dubai, registered ($?), LHD conversion ($?), driven across boarder to Kuwait by middleman 2 ($?), reregistered in Kuwait ($?), modified to taste ($$$$?). Sold. Genuine big dollar offers for Australian C210s are very, very few and far between, despite the high prices in Kuwait and Japan. Mario, you are an exception. and 240K's are a very different story.
-
That's got to be the worst explanation ever for over-pricing a car. Apart from no one really caring about how the second to last owner felt when she sold it, I am pretty sure that the only market who could afford that kind of money are certain to destroy the car and keep in unoriginal. Know what I mean?

Spotted: Rare Skyline Parts For Sale

I think I paid over $100 for mine, but plus another hundred to get the damn things sent over from Japan several years ago. They NEVER turn up locally, so I had to take the hit. Yours also have the correct rubber mounts at the base, whereas mine were missing, and I had to pull the switches off a 280zx. The non-electric version of those mirrors in chrome go for staggering money. -
Hi Dennis. If the chrome pieces of trim on the door under the front driver and passenger window don't have a scar from the side view mirrors I'd like them very much! They almost always do though Cheers, Drew

I bet that C110 coupe will go for very good money. Straight, original hub caps, cool vinyl roof... I wouldn't be surprised if the ebay add gets yanked down early actually due to a bit of pre-auction-end-haggling. Shame they cut the centre console though! -

Cutting up the centre console, adding mags and webers = saying goodbye to the Arab market. D'oh! I'd have thought originality would have been the strongest selling point for this car. -

I have the same model in the same colour. Mine's nicer! -
The fuel filler cap is the same for sedan and coupe, but the painted metal triangular surround is a different shape. It's easy to remove the filler from the assembly though.

Last I heard, even the worst 240K isn't being cut these days - especially if it is a stock-as-a-rock sedan. On the other hand, even the cleanest C210 is getting the chop prior to going OS, so prices aren't going to the same insane levels as the 240K. It has a lot to do with the availability of LHD dashes and whatever flavour of the month is this week. -

There is a unique standard 240K going for a song on gumtree. http://vic.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-unique-datsun-240k-GT-W0QQAdIdZ340919327 -
The coffee was delicious, but the business sold. The van ended up in Parkes NSW, and I'm working full time. Cheers, (the other) D

To think I actually once had a mint green coupe with black interior and sold it to a mate in Tassie... now I'll just have to settle on being envious of Jason's. Good score mate!
