1978 C210 Crash, Help Needed
coupe72001 replied to 78 C210's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Actually... now that I think of it, let me know if any of the cars have ANY panels, grill, bumpers or interior parts in really good nick. There's sure to be a home for them! The only C210 mechanical part that I bother collecting is the timing cover, as they rot from the inside. -
1978 C210 Crash, Help Needed
coupe72001 replied to 78 C210's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Hey Dennis, I got those springs on the car, they look the business, but truth be told they settled down a bit low and I'm bottoming out again. Looks like I'll have to get something made up from scratch. This is pie-in-the-sky stuff, but I really need the little square black plugs that cover the hole for the bolt in the bottom corner of the front panels. From memory only the C211 and Japanese imports had this though, not the C210. Similarly a spare set of r30 rear calipers would be sure to come in handy some day. Other than that I'm pretty right for parts, other than Mario begging me to hand over my remaining rust-free panels and black interior parts to finish off his latest project Even if you can't find the bits I'm after, get in touch when you're down. I still owe you a beer for bailing me out when I blew up my ignition module in the middle of nowhere on the Pacific Highway on a certain public holiday last year. Cheers, the other D -
Abigail from the UK, has trouble spelling and punctuating in English, is specifically looking for a RHD C210, but her letter of interest would still read the same if you were selling say... a camera. What could go wrong? Wait for any foriegn buyer to deposit the whole amount, including shipping costs to your Paypal account (or direct deposit - does anyone know if you can get scammed from providing a BSB, ACN and account name only with regards to doing a direct deposit?) before you part with the car - you wouldn't do it any different if it was an ebay transaction. I think most of us on the forum know that realistically just about any foriegn interest in a C210 is going to be coming from the Gulf States... not even the old-school-skyline-obsessed Japanese are keen to deal with us.

1978 C210 Crash, Help Needed
coupe72001 replied to 78 C210's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Kevin, I hate to hear that someone's smashed up your pride and joy. Congratulations are in order though for refusing to accept the rubbish offer from Allienz. Hopefully you'll get the $3G, which is more than enough to pull panels from your parts car, rust repair the replacement panels, and respray them. Bumper rechromers should be able to straighten a bumper that's bent like a banana for less than $300... unless it's rusty. What's happened to your car Socrates? -
Wtb: C210 Bonnet And Rear Bar
coupe72001 replied to hao's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Better still - grab a whole car for parts if you can find somewhere for it to live - in the long run it'll be worth its weight in gold! -
Wtb: C210 Bonnet And Rear Bar
coupe72001 replied to hao's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
You have almost no chance of finding the parts you want in the condition you described. Bonnets are invariably rusted under the front lip, and bumpers bend with the first light knock. I'd be snapping up any rubbish you can find and budgeting on rust repairs, repainting and rechroming to get them back up to scratch. Good luck. -
Original throughout??? You have the original headlights maybe! The rest of the car appears to be modified throughout. Don't get the wrong idea, I like the car, I just think it's far... far from original. Like mine!

That's Anthony's car. He's a mutual friend of Mario's and mine. He's a lovely guy and the car looks great and goes like the clappers.

When you get a chance you should show off your sedans. There'll probably never be another thread about moddifiyng C210's again - everyone will want to convert back to factory stock standard!
-
Mario has a fairly awesome collection of English/Japanese books and brochures relating specifically to the C210/C211. Not to mention 25+ years behind the wheels of his C210s. I'd trust anything that he posts to be very well researched.

Wheels To Suit 240k Coupe
coupe72001 replied to adznight's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Your top pic shows C210 coupe rims polished (hard to find). Similar look/same stud pattern are the Mitsubishi Sigma GSR rims. Bottom pic is standard hubcaps (near impossible to find) over standard rims, as far as I know. I agree the 280zx Iron Cross rims you have on there now don't look quite right. I actually quite like the look of standard rims once they have been cleaned up nicely. -
Saudis drive Camrys.

You'll probably save a packet by hunting for a smashed/rusty/dirtbag 280c, 280zx or nissan patrol and grabbing the L28 and assorted goodies out of it.
-
The ebay add gives a much better idea of what's on offer. Actually, the interior looks pretty good.
-
Fuel injecton is way too complex for me. 3 dellortos hanging off an L28.
-
A c210 coupe is a cool and rare car in any condition these days... I guess I was picturing something else in my mind up until I saw the pics. A Jap import 2000 Gt-e... or something.

My C210 recently ran 135hp (and 750 motive forces?) on a dyno dynamics dyno in Melbourne. Drivetrain losses and dyno innaccuracies aside apparently around 200hp at the fly.
-
Turbo gear is in the boot you say? I just took a look at the pic of the engine bay and had a bit of a WTF moment.

There are a few makes of alternator for the L series (hitachi and bosch from memory). While all the L series alternators physically fit the C210, some have a single pin plug in the back, and others use a twin pin plug. The plug can be removed and replaced, but the plug and bushes are all in the one assembly, and often worn bushes are causing crappy charging in the first place. Unless its a dodgy fusible link, blown diodes, or clapped out bearings, of course. Again, from memory, if you use the single plug system it still actually works, but you get an annoying warning light on the dash.

Factory Turbo C210 Coupe

Yep, that looks like one of those almost rust free dealer turbo c210 coupes to me. -
R31 Intermittent Fuel Problems
coupe72001 replied to coupe72001's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Actually the fuel looked pretty good, so I only drained, and didn't flush. Flushing and prefilter sound like saavy ideas. The r31 guys are suggesting that my crank angle sensor may be sending bad info to the ECU about when to send fuel. I'm going to try that, too. Apparently they are vunerable to malfunction when hot. -
R31 Intermittent Fuel Problems
coupe72001 replied to coupe72001's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Not even sure what a fuel pressure regulator is, but I'll look it up and try swapping it. The sock on the end of the in-tank filter looks ok. Besides, the problem is affecting multiple fuel pumps/filter socks, and at a glance they all look right. -
Howdy! So, I have been getting around in grandpa's old stock as a rock r31. Things were going well, but I ran it low on fuel and it ran poorly for 30 seconds and died. I actually thought I had run out of fuel, so I topped the sucker up and it ran again. Then it stopped running again the next day. I drained the fuel tank, added injector cleaner and changed the fuel filter, and the car ran like a champ. Then it stopped again after 20 mins. I decided I must have fouled the fuel pump and (being the weekend) I organised a couple of crappy 2nd hand fuel pumps, and the car ran again. Then it stopped again. So I tried the other spare fuel pump and that went well for another 20 odd kms then it stopped. Again. If I disconnect the fuel line at the filter when I start the car fuel sprays out everywhere. After a short drive the car dies, and when I disconnect the fuel line I get no fuel spraying anywhere. However, if I wash the car, or go for a couple of beers, or sit around for a couple of hours the fuel starts pumping again, and I can drive another few kms before breaking down again. Do I have (now 4) dodgey used fuel pumps, that only work sometimes, or is there another problem - maybe like a bad earth, that causes the pumps to cut out sometimes then come back to life after a bit of a break. Thanks.

I'd start by posting your question in another section of the SAU forum. This here is the "classic" section, and most of us are firmly stuck in the 70's and 80's. I bet there's better answers waiting for you in the imported vehicles/r33 related areas of the site. Cheers!
