  1. i am removing my coilapcks today for some epoxy treatment. When i removed no.2, i held it by the side that has the electronics under the hot glue and i THINK i got a shock....it could have been psycho-somatic however can you get a shock from a disconnected coil pack? How much capacitance do the have?
  2. 29000 on the clock. I guarantee no more than 50,000 actual, given the condition of everything, including the underbody stickers.
  3. here's my premium for comparison: '99 R34 GT-T Male 29yrs old No tickets, accidents, claims in past 5+ years Brisbane northside Just Cars, full comp, named driver only (just me), stereo + suspension + exhaust noted. $26,500 agreed value. $947/year (down ~$50 form last year)
  4. theres one here....so long as i dont have to go a massive amount out of my way, i'll always look. Gives me some hope for good karma that my car will get checked on if it's in trouble.
  5. drunk... 180kmh.... that's not just stupid that's almost intentional suicide. How long does it take for a stock 33 to hit 180???? She must have had her foot planted for a good 16-18 seconds and accelerated over 1/2km before reaching that speed. It's not like this was a split second loss of control on a wet corner - this was a dedicated effort to really be a tool. I have no sympathy for this driver and am just thankful none of my family or friends were in their path.
  6. i am in the lucky position of having driven a few decent cars in my life and at the age of 29, i can say i have "never" been in an accident... ...but actually, that is bending the truth a little. I in fact put both of my first 2 cars sideways and FORTUNATELY hit nothing but empty roadspace - and no witnesses. The cars were - an automatic 95 Excel and a 93 Swift GTi...... If anyone thinks a young car enthusiast is not going to attempt to push the limits once in a while, you're having a pull. It was easy enough to get these 2 FWD shitboxes into trouble....i hate to think how i would have ended up if i'd had 2.5ltrs of forced induction under my (non)control. Since then, i've had a 93 GTIR, 98WRX and now 99 GTT, but growing up with affordable, fully insured, underpowered FWDs was the best thing i ever did for my driving sense. Please dont be another tool who buys a Skyline and doesnt fully insure it. You will not live down the "i told you so's" when it all comes unstuck. PS: the excel WAS a shitbox, but the swift was prolly the most fun car ive owned to date. Many weekends were spent getting mods done - exhaust work, cold air induction, better tyres, tweaking the adjustable suspension, ignition timing, brake pads, track sprints, drags etc. all to get every last drop of performance out of it. You CAN have a lot of fun with cars you may not have considered.
  7. my 2 door GTT with split dump and 3" exhaust averages 13-14 ltrs/100km around town.
  8. jeez that sounds a little exxy. A GTIR G/B can be had for ~1k and they are much harder to source and (IMHO) easier to break . Market rates i spose....must be a sellers market in the skyline space.
  9. Can you get the paint code from your engine bay? Otherwise give us the VIN and it can be FAST'ed to check the original paint code.
  10. ya....
  11. what work do you want done? New GB? New gearset? New synchros? Open up and inspect? If it's not a really bad crunch, you could try a good quality synthetic gear oil e.g. Redline Shockproof. It does wonders for worn gearboxes, but wont help a broken gearbox.
  12. mate, sounds like you have a good attitude and that counts for a lot. If you can show dedication through background knowledge and a genuine interest to stick with it and put the hard yards in, you're probably in front of the pack already. If you have a photo/work log of your Vet, take it allong as a kind of portfolio for your work. Use it as a prop to get them into a convo about possibly taking on an apprentice. Let them know what you are interseted in and where you see yourself after school. good luck!
  13. i once made an airbox heatshield from 2 pieces of aluminium with corrugated cardboard sandwiched between. If you just want a rubber/foam type material, try Clark Rubber. I've bought non-sticky foam rubber that has aluminium backing on one side (sarking) from them before.

    Boony Codes

here's a valid, unused code as at 17-1-07: 5086076829 enjoy.
  16. lol...are you serious? Just pop down the local mechanic and go "hmm i think i'll have a manual conversion today!". If you are, more power to ya! Good to see someone doing rather than talking. Thats gotta be a record as well - 1 day from asking advice to implementing.
  17. My work's novated lease compnay lets you lease any car less than 6 years old. It can even be the car you already own. Is it you or your work leasing the vehicle? If it's you (i.e. you're paying pre-tax dollars for it), make sure you understand the benefits (or lack thereof) of entering into the lease arrangement. You have to do enough KM/year to make it worthwhile. http://www.smb.com.au/FeaturesAndBenefits/Fbt.aspx
  18. You will prolly need a nissan->DIN adaptor and then a DIN->JVC adaptor. Get them from any car audio shop. If you wanted to give the soldering a go, you could just use the nissan->DIN one, chop the DIN end off and solder it to the HU. Saves you $10-20 on the second harness.
  19. - airbag wheel replaced with a "momo" non-airbag wheel, or (not so bad) a S1 stock wheel replaced with an S2 stock wheel or vice-versa (still functional, but indicates a prior crash). - cracked coil packs causing hesitation around 4-5000RPM. Could be masked (pun intended) by taping them up with leccy tape, or covering in epoxy. - faulty/locked/removed HICAS. Might be hidden by a blown or removed HICAS dash light. NOTE: you may actually prefer no HICAS, but i like mine the way it came from the factory - notchy gearbox. I drove 3 back to back on the day i found mine and all GBs felt different. - xenon headlights. these would technically be a bonus, but they are not meant to be on there. They should have been removed at compliance time. You take the risk of the legalities if the car still has them. - rear speakers not functional - this is normal, as the compliance puts big ass baby seat bolts through the cones of the back speakers - watch out for any that have too much boost on the stock turbo. The stockie can't handle much more than it came out factory with.
  20. doesnt sound like coil packs. Do you have any hesitation around 4-5000RPM? This would be cracked coil packs. Sounds like an issue with your traction control. Could be a faulty wheel speed sensor. The flashing dash light sounds like it was indicating the fault code. Get the service place to do a fault code diagnostic, or search the forums here for how to do it yourself. cheers, sean.
  21. sold!
  22. yeah, my thoughts also....maybe an auto, N/A, 4 door r34 for that price....or an uncomplied GTT.
  23. a hillclimb car with 16k budget?....GTIR FTW
  24. any old turbo volvo with a new whack of boost a mini with a turbo swift gti engine. original beetle with EJ20t
  25. mine was the dark blue r34 gtt. Ony mods are bilstien suspension, batmbl split dump and 3" straight through exhaust....on the minus side, my coil packs are cracked and occasionally cause hesitation.
