  1. I dont know any state where it is legal to get a hole in the side of a tyre fixed. spesh on a low profile tyre, the size of a "Gator Patch" that most places use to attempt a repair like that is about 2 inches wide by 4 inches long, and is too thick to use on a sidewall cos it limits the flex of the tyre. Mate I would just save to get a new tyre. You would only be wating your time if you ran around trying to get someone to fix it, and even then, i wouldnt wanna put it on my car after it was done.
  2. Take a look at the topic here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=72923 about what tyres people recomend, you will see a few brands there that are with in your price range that will give you an idea. if you are in Adelaide, and want prices PM me.
  3. Still happens, the "Metal" in tyres is really weak, and it is mainly the Nylon and Rubber that holds it in shape. So it is easy to cut. and here in Adelaide, you get idiots that will stab tyres with needles, and then you dont know that it is stuffed till you find the little hole in the side.
  4. If they are a wearing part then they are normally as a rule replacable in some way. I would say that any GOOD mechanic would be able to order them in, and would be more than able to press them in and out. Call one and find out.
  5. In SA, you can only go up 2" from factory, but you can go as wide as you like so long as no part of the tread of the tyre passes the outter most part of the guard (they will defect your car for being out of track if your tyres hang out of your guards). And even with an engineers report the copps will still pull you over if you go past normal legal stndards, and be more inclinded to go right over your car for a defect.
  6. Then you will be happy to know that simex are not any longer being brought into this country.. well for a short time at least. Simex have moved there manufacturing plant to Brazil, so untill they get that up and running (6 months i hear) there will be a very big shortage on simex's in Australia. And even then, Once these new laws come in about tyres and rims that I PERSONALLY HOPE THEY PASS, all these cheap unrated chineese and korean tyres and rims will have to pass a safety and quality check before they can be imported here. SO. when you buy a cheap tyre it will still be safe for our road conditions. Dont know if that one will come in, but I read about it somewhere in the last few weeks.
  7. I think I got a catalogue at work that has them in there from some Victorian Company that makes them and other car accessories. and they are in there for about $130 for a pair ($65 each) Might have to check that price again though..
  8. I personally think that the T1R's are a better tyre than the RT 615's, but that is just my opinion. If you dont do a lot of hard cornering, then I wouldnt fork our HUGE dollars for grippy tyres on the front, as a descent midrange tyre in that size should do the same job on the front as a top end grippy tyre, but saying that, I wouldnt even look at these cheap chinesse import tyres (Antyre, Clear, Sime, Barum, Nexen) as they are generally worse than retreats. But I wouldnt cheap out on the rear.. not if you are running any kinda real power.
  9. I've seen idiots attempt to fix sidewalls, and well lets just say I still call them idiots. I think operating a power tool outside in the pooring rain would be a little bit safer than driving on a tyre that has been knifed and fixed.
  10. Not also to mention how illigal it is to run spacers in the first place. (Or is that only in South Australia, I'd Prolly check cos I know that most insurance places will not cover a car with spacers)
  11. Ok, I dont just sledge Bob Janes Stores. I am willing to sledge any other companie I worked for that I know is dodgy... And it just so happens that 99 out of every 100 people you talk to in Adelaide will tell you the same thing as me, "To not go to Bob Janes cos none of them 16 year olds know anything about what they are doing" It isnt a matter of how good there system is, or the machines they are using.. you will still always find that if the guy using them knows nothing, then the machines are useless. But Sydney may be different, They may hire people that know how to do a Wheel Alignment, instead of a Thrust Alignment.. Thurst Alignment: commonly known as a bob jane special, or a toe and go.. all that is altered and chekced is the toe readings on the car, no cambers or castors are checked in this process. And I dont see stating the truth about a company I worked for as sledging.
  12. Cheers Cubes, That is the link i was looking for the other day. Yeah there seems to be a lot of young kids out there doing wheel alignments on cars, and not one of them seem to know what they are talking about, once again, i wouldnt leave my keys with anyone that is younger than me, cos chances are they dont know as much about my car as i do, and if i dont know how to align it, then i'd hate to think what they knew about it. Bl4cK32, you dont know the name of the place you went to? it would be good to at least warn people off going there. But yes some times you can get a bad alignment from a place, but with us (the tyre joint), if you think you have had bad service or something, call up and we will be mor than happy to look again to fix the problem. As for wheel alignments and your own specs. Any GOOD aligner will be more than happy to talk to you about your settings that you want, and give his advice on what he knows itwill do on the road with them settings, and if they are fine for your car, every GOOD aligner will use your specs.. Keep that in mind. iLEC, we are located at Lonsdale, 1/58 O'Sullivans Beach Road. Phone number is above.^ 08 8326 0247, talk to Jim or Dylan.
  13. As I manage a tyre business, I seem to hear a lot of these story's, normally about Bob Jane stores. To me it sounds like your mate might of hit a curb or something.. by the symptoms that you are discribing. as for your car sitting higher, well the only thing would be playing wiht the suspesion on the car. if the car is ripping left, then they might of set the alightment to 0 mm a side toe, this will cause the car to want to pull left as there is a problem with the roads in australia, also if they f**ked with the camber of your car, chances are they really dont know what they are doing. Take it this way, the only advice that i can give to someone with a wheel alignement problem is, You will always over pay at a big named place, you should never give your keys to someone younger than you that is going to play around with the front of your car, and you will always learn to not go back after you hand over your money. all that said, if you are in adelaide and need your wheel alignment fixed call me. 08 8326 0247
  14. You measure the width of the rim from the inner lips of the rim. cos the outter lip can vary in width and shape it is never acurate to measure form the outter lips, always form the inner of the lips on a rim.
  15. Started different, but seems to of ended up the same. Sorry
  16. Cos he is a dick I guess. I have no idea, that is why after he told me i ran it past you guys. I called Ashley at Graham West in Adelaide. This is what I have been suggested. Let me know what you think. PowerFC Comp (DJetrow) PowerFC Boost Controller ASE Intercooler 3" Exhaust, WIth Front Down, and Dump Pipe and Hi FLo Cat. Rebuild my stock Turbo into a GT30 Internals Limited to 250rwkw Bosch 040 Fuel Pump Z32 Air Flow Meter Nismo 550 Injectors Does this sound like what I should be looking out for?
  17. Ok, I called Ashley at Graham West in Adelaide. This is what I have been suggested. Let me know what you think. 18. All Tyre pressure rates are based on cold pressure. Tyres should be checked when cold. not after you have driven on them for an hour.
  19. Does anyone in adelaide happen to know what the best way to get a car imported is? i mean if i get one imported Via sydney (jap imposts) will i need to go to regency once it is here? can someone shed some light on this topic?
  20. Ok I have found a mate that might know what he is talking about with Skylines. He is telling me that with a stock R33 GTS25t I should leave the ECU alone, and Leave the Injectors alone, do the 3" cat back, and get a 600 x 300 intercooler, change my fuel pump to a Bosh 044, and also keep my eyes out for a brand new cheap Garrett GT3540r and manifold to suit? Does this sound like a way to go? What kind of power am i looking at when done? and what is a rough price for all this set up? with out labour cos I should be rite to get my local to fit it all for me. Also he is talking about turbo timers and blow off valves and turbo smart hi lo switches, and also a plumbing kit for the intercooler. Any rough ideas on prices of these? if anyone is in the right industry to quote.
  21. Do you run 18 inch wheels? and are your wheels still a nice sound shape? If you answer yes to both of these, I would go to your local tyre Tech and ask them to spin your wheels and seeif they have flat spots. 18 Inch wheels do not like High pressure and low profile tyres, kind of a bad mix on Australian Roads. They like to go a little flat in some places when you do have high pressure.
  22. Import or local i dont care. Pref stock. Colour dont matter. Yeah I am trying to get as uch info as i can on what i want now, cos i will be finished my other car just before x mas, so i will be looking around then. but till then, i will prolly drive you all mad with stuid questions, till i know all the ins and outs of what i want. Yep I am thinking the same too.
