  1. Hey all, I'm curous about the legallities of modifying your car in vic as ive only had my skyline for a couple months now and havent really done anything to it yet. But what is the legislation on it, which piece of paper should i be trying to find that states out what is legal and whats not? Cheers Cam
  2. Hey all, I've certainly taken on board all ur responses and at the end of the day will prolly change both the fuel filter and o2 sensor. But hopefully next week it will be going on the dyno for a diagnostic and i might find out for sure whats going on Thanks! Cam
  3. I havent been able to source exactly where the smell was coming from but next time it happens i'll try and pin point it. Is there some way i can find out if unburnt fuel is making it to the cat without pulling out that section of the exhaust? Also what would cause this over injection of fuel? its the stock ECU as u've all prolly gathered so mixture cant be changed there, but would it be becuase say the air flow meter is reading higher readings than is actually making it into the manifold?   4. As i did say my driving is very casual 90% of the time so im not wasting juice on that. I'm filling up the tank till the pump wont gime any more and running down as low as the guage can basically go, but not enough to turn on the fuel light. I also dont appear to blowing and black smoke, very clean exhaust from what i can tell. I am mostly doin city driving but i have a place down the mornington peninsular and when driving back and forth from there the effeciency really doesnt increase by much at all (maybe 360-370km). This really surprised me as my old car would give me 100ks more per tank when doin only 100km/ph driving) As for the clutch issue, no the clutch takes up perfectly fine when driving, no unwanted slipping.. i was refering to like when i reverse park there is slippage caused by myself of cause and thats what first made me think it could be clutch coz thats when i first smelt it, but it doesnt seem to happen then anymore... just randomly during general driving, and i might drive the car for an hour or more after and it never returns.. strange.. i must have typed something wrong as i did do a search for "topics only" on fuel effeciency over the entire SAU forum and got nothing relevant. Most searches ive done using "entire post" has given me so many unrelated posts ive stopped using it.. But thank you all for your responses so far. It's gettin close to its first 5000km since ive owned it so i'll prolly get em to do a more thorough look over the vehicle. Cheers Cam
  5. Hey all, I purchased my first skyline about 2 months ago now (1995 R33 GTSt). Claiming that it has done only 60,000ks... im sure thats crap with how easy replacement clusters are to get, but the actual car is in very good condition. Now i seem to get about 320km out of a full tank of PULP (V power) and i just think that i should be getting more than that considering i dont very regularly drive it hard. The car is completely stock minus the factory air box being replaced with an Apexi power intake. But the effeciency was about the same when i did have the factory intake. The engine seems to run very smoothly but can sometimes produce a very off smell that may last for 30 seconds and then all is fine again for the rest of a day of driving... (i thought the smell issue may have been a clutch issue at first as when i got the car it happened mainly when reversing... high slippage when parking, but now its just very random) Any ideas or suggestions?   6. Hey all, twas looking to go out and get a me a short shifter kit for my s1 r33 gtst recently but have now hit the problem of which one to purchase. Me being the naive person that i obviously am didn't expect to find that there would be such a huge range in price. ($100-$500) Why is that? and i guess that would lead onto what should I be looking for (strengths and weaknesses) and i guess i mean in build quality becuase funtionallity seems to be pretty much the same for all (35-40% reduciton in throw) but i would probably be wanting a physical shortening of the stick too. Please feel free to educate me thanks heaps! Cam
  7. Thank for your responses guys. I guess my next question is some recomended exhaust workshops, obviously justjap seems to be a cheap place to get, say the x force system but then would still need to get somewhere to fit it. Im also a little clueless to copanies in melb that sell / fit the japanese brands. The couple copanies i do know of are RE Customs and TGS performance, but TGS wanted $1800 to buy and fit the xforce system ... So they appear to be an expensive option...
  8. Hi all, I'm currently considering upgrading the exhaust system (from the turbo back) of my relatively stock R33 GTS-t. But at the end of the day i am a newbie and would like to get some opinions on what would be some good options. The car is going to be a street car for most of its life (with prolly some circuit stuff further down the track). So i guess the level of noise it makes has to be legalish. I have been looking at the xforce 3" stainless system as its a complete kit, or would i be better off with a cat-back system from one of the well known jap brands? getting the dump pipe and high flow cat seperatly? I do think i would prefer stainless over the mild steal at this stage. Cost comes into it too and i dont really want to be spending more than $1500 if posible, but if thats unrealistic then im happy to save up! The more opinions the better would like to start gettings some quotes in the next week or so. Cheers Cam
  9. Hey all, Ive been having issues with my tacho freekin out at a certain rpm and then continuing on perfectly 500rpm further along. (I posted my full issue on the general maintenance threat a couple weeks ago). It seems so far that no one has had an issue like mine to recommend how to fix it so I guess its time to find an auto electrican that has some knowledge about Japanese imports. Any recommendations? I live in Kew but anywhere in Melbourne is fine. Cheers Cam
  10. Hey all, I took ownership of my first R33 Skyline a couple weeks ago and in the last few days the tacho has been doing something strange at a certain rpm. For probably the first 10 mins of driving the tacho runs perfectly smoothly all the way through the rev range, but then all of a sudden when it hits about 3300rpm the needles starts flicking all over the place until i hit about 4000rpm and it continues on perfectly again... over a period of driving it doesnt get any better until i turn off the car and start it again and then it will operate properly once again for maybe 10 minutues... Any ideas? Cam
