  1. Having a bit of a dilemma trying to decide and organise transport of my 32 GTR. As some of you may be aware my car has just had a major restore job done on it over the last year which included replacing panels, mouldings, pans kit etc and now has a fresh coat of paint. I need to get the car back to Albany (the car is complied but unregistered) so have organised to get the car put on a 'Car transport Truck', but am now thinking the car is to low to get on to truck without scratching up the front lip? I am aware I could take of the front bar but then I would have to organise transport of that also! Idea of how low it is about 2.5 inches to ground The car is also not starting at the moment (fueling issue) so therefore cant get temporary movement permit and drive it! Was thinking I mite get a car trailer and tow it down myself? Has anyone had success using a car trailer and not removing front bumper etc? I am Just really after some peoples opinions? Thanks in advance, Dan

  5. Has the engine been rebuilt or was it an engine swap? Who put it in receipts? ask these kind of questions! Have a look at the intake manifold- is the paint chipping off? (Good sign of hard usage and high core temps) Compression test will set you back $100 - $150 (well worth it) As an alternative to a costly rebuild a lot of people simply buy half cuts and do engine swaps, it is a cheap way of replacing a damaged engine- However your buying into the unknown!
  6. Chances are you will be taken in by hire company: I work for one of the largest Iron Ore Companies in the world - however I am contracted to the mining company by Skilled, They take a total of 35% of my wage! So I am doing the hard yards on not so great money atm and hopefully in the future the Iron ore company will take me on! Once on staff then you make the $$$$$$
  7. Just incase you do decide to go down the cheaper road: I ended up buying a cheap R32 GTR(first owner in australia/complied/unregistered) Good Points: -strong orignal engine -TEIN coilovers suspension, TEIN progressive springs, TEIN pillow uppers -BUDDY CLUB RS coilovers -17" Alloy deep deep dish 255/40/17 -BREMBO R33 GTR front brakes, Braded brake lines, Cross drilled rear rotors -TOMMY KAIRA 300km/h complete dash -APEXi N1 cat-back exhaust, HKS front pipe -BLITZ ACCESS ECU Bad Points Had a crappy un-orignal paint that was peeling bad Rust around window arches/ rear pods/ rear wheel housing arch Clutch was slipping However I was very much aware of all the problems and how I would go about fixing and financing to get it back to original condition! First thing I did 100km service, replaced one of the bushes, put new brake pads on and dynoed it! Next in went brand new ORC twin plate clutch/ lightened flywheel Next we stripped car down and found even more rust/bog spots (so ordered a heap of brand new body panels and wheel arches) + new 1 piece nismo kit, new bootlid Next front and rear windows were broken so had to get new front and rear glass + seals = $$$$$$ The car is soon to be painted back to original gunmetal grey am just waiting on some more panels from Japan! It has been a long and fairlly costly experience in which there is still a lot to be done and a lot of $$$ to be spent! Although I brought it cheap it will end up being a $25000+ R32 GTR "But atleast I will no exactly what Ive got"
  8. Take some one with you that knows GTRS!!!!!! Do a compression test and if neccesary a leak down test - let you know what kind of life car has had, just because engine may have had a hard life does not mean its a lemon just factor in cost of rebuild etc! Look for worn boot gearstick, worn steering wheel, worn gear knob (although these can easily be changed)! Get it up on a hoist and check for rust, chassis rails, check rear wheel housing arches, check within the boot into rear pods, , suspension rubbers, cv boots and any instances of accident damage! Check syncros on gearbox 'quick gear changes listening for crunches"- these can be easily fixed but is a costly exercise! If the engines been rebuilt who did it? Are they a reputable workshop? Go talk to them! Are there receipts for work done? What aftermarket parts are on the car? Could these be hiding faults/damage etc! Is the boost turned up - boost controllers Turbos? is there any play in the turbos are they original turbos? Is it original paint? run some magnets check for bog spots? Main thing ask yourself can you really afford a GTR? From my experience they are money pits but well worth the $$$ if you can afford, remember to factor in $5000+ a year in general maintenance/licensing/insurance etc! My advice get a cheap daily and have the Gtr as a weekender!
  9. Number of factors to consider: Did the company take it to courier the day you payed for it? Did the courier put it on the first available vehicle etc? Has the courier been delayed or had priority listings? Has the depot in Perth actually sorted through there crap and got the product out to you? Has some amateur courier delivery person been to house and left a note etc? I ordered a kit for my Gtr from a reputable company who is a major sponsor of SAU - they told me it would take 5-7 days to arrive! It took nearlly 3 months for the kit to arrive! The company would not answer my emails, so I tried calling a number of times and the blame simpley kept getting handed off; the courier was at fault, the depot has lost it, its fallen of the truck etc! Haha In the end I got my old lady on the phone and she threatend them etc and finally got the name of courier company and depot! Turns out it had been sitting in perth for 2 and a half months and they had overlooked it and to go with that when they came to deliver it; they simpley dumped the kit at the front door and left, I was working away at the time and had to get a friend to go get it out of the front yard before it was knicked!
  10. What are the specifications of the RB series engine? RB series of engine 20 / 25 / 26 capacity (20~1998cc / 25~2497cc / 26~2597cc) (D) Double Overhead Cam (or DOHC) (E) EFI (Electronic fuel injection) (T) / (TT) Turbo / twin turbo RB20E 97kw@5600rpm 172Nm@4400rpm RB20DE 116kw@6400rpm 184Nm@5200rpm RB20DET (Red top) 134kw@5600rpm 225Nm@4400rpm RB20DET (Silver top) 160kw@6400rpm 263Nm@3200rpm RB25DE 142kw@6400rpm 231Nm@4800rpm RB25DET 187kw@6400rpm 295Nm@4800rpm RB26DETT 208kw@6800rpm 368Nm@4400rpm
  11. Highly recommend Tenagah Motorsports they have been working on my skylines since back in 06! All the work done on my 32 GTR so far has been carried out at Tenagah! Go speak to Ant he has done all the work on my GTR , hes a top bloke whos always prepared to help out and he has two of his own 32 GTRs that are serious credits to his work!
  12. What I have learned Nice cars can never be owned! they always end up owning you! To be different means to attract attention; both good and bad attention! If you can afford to own a one off car, You need security, you need somewhere safe to park it "garage' and you need to realise that to some people your car is a great achievement but to others its a big smack in the face - to something they dont have! Part and parsel of owning a unique car is that yes its a target to some and yes it will cost you an arm and a leg to keep unique and in top condition but hey if it didnt then the meaning behind owning these cars would be lost.
  13. Hey mate you can buy these new for $65! Justjap.com http://justjap.com/store/home.php?cat=335
  14. Gasoline engines only need moderate compression - 140 to 160 pounds per square inch (psi) The nissan manual states the maximum acceptable variation between cylinders is 14psi (1kg), So you are basically on the boarderline! If you were to continue driving it would be important not to lean on this engine for big power increases given it's pretty tired. Low compression in cylinders could mean that problem of fuel washed cylinders exists. Meaning that the engine has had too much fuel introduced into it and all of the oil has been washed off the cylinder walls. Oil creates a sealing effect between the piston and ring assemblies and the cylinder walls of the engine block. Without thi thin layer of oil, the engine compression is allowed to escape into the crankcase. 'flooding' problem If the engine seems to run normally but is weak and puffs a small amount of bluish smoke, it can be an indication of worn piston rings and cylinder walls. If the compression is found to be too high in one or more cylinders (not neccessarily your case), this would be an indication of excessive carbon buildup in the engine. (I used to have a 94 R33 GTS-t with a lot worse compression varience (from day one): 150 145 140 140 135 125, It was running around 280bhp and I had that for 2 years and by no means drove it softly and had never a problem!)
  15. Awsome product, awsome bloke! Picked mine up about a week ago and am very happy with it, fits perfectly and its construction A1! Will get some pics up after my GTR has been painted! Thanks, Dan
  16. I ended up getting my rear window from a GTST and yeh thankfully cut the great GTR tax out! From memory your right with the atennae on the GTST, alternative would be those roof mount ones but yeh who needs a radio - to be honest my GTR doesnt have a stereo and Im seriously considering leaving it that way!
  17. I Have obtained a lot of useful information of these forums in the past and Instead of posting little one of questions about my restore, I thought I would post up one big post and if anyone has any answers or advice for me I will be all ears! I purchased a 1990 R32 GTR about 8 months ago my second skyline: and for the last 4 months or so have had it being stripped down at a mates panel shop; having all rust cut out, dents and blemishes fixed and ready for paint! Everything is beeing painted except engine bay, Im tossing up weather or not to paint inside the boot, anybody prepped this area before and level of difficulty? The passenger side rear quarter panel has rusted out pretty bad and I would ideally like to replace however I have been looking for one for a good 3 months now with no avail (have found a couple but would need to take half cuts etc at a cost) One option was to order a new one for around $800 I think? We are going to have a go at welding a piece in and see how it turns out either way its going to be a lot of work! Has anyone done something similar/experiences etc? Have been reading the forums and some indepth DIY prep guides and now have a basic understanding of whats needed in prepping car so am taking the next week off to get the car as straight and smooth as possible! Ive got some new bits that will need to be prepped aswell! GARAGE SAURUS FRONT LIP NISMO N1 STYLE 1 PIECE SIDE SKIRTS TRUST STYLE REAR PODS R34 GTR style Grille Nismo N1 Intercooler Vents With the Nismo style N1 Intercooler Vents - there are no clips or anyway of attaching these to the front bar slots, any ideas on how people have attached theres, glue clips etc? Moulds/seals etc: I had front and rear windows removed and unfortunately they both broke (Still in need of a Front Window if anyone has one for sale or knows where I might find one?) The seals I think will need to be replaced have people used generic style seals or ordered nissan originals? I know the original ones are quite expensive and come in kits, but have heard you can use commodore seals or simply get windscreen mob to make some up? I am also after nissan passenger side door mould (soft ones that commonly tear), aswell as both inner door moulds, Is there a nissan spares or a stocker of these parts in Perth or is it a nissan direct job? The Rims Im hoping to have polished up or painted as they are peeling fairly bad! From what Ive read Briffa engineering is the place to go? Will probably have the rims done before painting the vehicle; so if anyone has an old set of rims and tyres that would fit (R33 GTR Brembos on front) that they would be interested in lending us for a week or so in exchange for a cartoon of choice let us know? ( I do have an old set of 33 GTS-t stockies but I dont think they will fit with the brembos) If anyone has any ideas or personal experiences to share I would greatly appreciate it as this is the first car Ive actually stripped down and I want to have it prepped perfectly! Thanks, Dan
  18. Thanks for quick replys! Car is located in Bayswater NOR and I already have permit papers to move car (ie car is fully functional just yet to be registered)! The car will be in at workshop in 1-2 weeks!
  19. End of lease has come up and have yet to find a new place, My GTR is unregistered and I am in urgent need of storage facility or even a business/person prepared to hold onto the car (preferably undercover) for 1-2 weeks! Have rang a few storage places and there seems to be waiting lists at most of them, I am more then prepared to pay if someone could spare a spot etc! Thanks, Dan
