Where to get Skyline Serviced
cactu5 replied to r33skylinegtst's topic in Australian Capital Territory
I've been looking for a good deal on Turbos for my GTR, so I called COOMA DIESEL and unfortunately had to talk to a very rude, sarcastic woman who not only wouldn't give me even a $50 discount on 2 X $1,500 turbos, but wouldn't even TELL ME WHAT THE PART WAS!!!! unless I agreed to purchase them. I would definately recommend that everyone on this forum stay away from this place. If anyone knows where to get a good deal on turbos I would love to know. I'm looking for ones around the 300-350 hp mark. -
Should this be of concern for me? My motor does take a long time to heat up, and you've really got to flog it if you want it to be hot. I don't mind warming my car up for five minutes (I do it anyway) but would that be long enough with forgies. Do all brands of forged pistons take an equal time to heat up and set into position?

What's the difference between wisecos and CPs?

This is the sort of advice I was looking for. I'm trying to keep parts costs atleast below 7K, including rebuilding the head, and adding turbos and this setup looks good, as well as much cheaper than what I was looking at, so thanks. I will save money by getting the tomei head kit because I wont have to get another head gasket. The turbos are also cheaper than I was looking at, and they'll do the job. I'll make sure I use the rod bolts.

My day to day power goals are probably a modest 250kw at the wheels, but maybe later I will want 350kw. I don't want to rebuild the motor and find that I'm limited too much later on when my power goals have changed.

Hi, I'm looking at rebuilding an RB26 out of an R32. At present the motor is still running fine, although it has done high kilometres and the oil pump is on its way out. I'm not looking for ridiculous power because this is my daily driver, but I do want a bit of power, reliability, and I want the option of close to ridiculous power later on. I'm trying not to spend too much cash on parts, and I was wondering WHAT PARTS SHOULD I GET? At the moment I'm looking at......... - N1 oil pump + collar - head gasket metal or copper? - Probably forged pistons, which ones? - Probably not forged rods, should I though? - Where can I save without too much compromise? - Turbos? If anyone knows any sites that give competitive pricing I would love to know. Thanks in advance.

I agree, I've had the problem you're having with a couple of cars and both times it was the fuel filter clogging up. I doubt the type of fuel you use is going to make that much difference, especially if you've just changed from V-power to BP ultimate. I could understand if you were running a Woolworths special blend.

I read on the forum about the guy who heard a grinding sound with his RB25 and it looks like his motor completely beyond repair. It seems strange that mine ran fine when I turned it off last night? I don't know what's going on.
-
might not be the sender. I drove the car up the road last night. Oil pressure was fine at that time. parked the car. Got in it again this morning, went to start it and heard the loudest grinding metal sound ever. Stopped the car immediately. WTF? Anyway, I don't know if it was the water pump throwing a bearing, because that was on its way out, or if it was the motor dying. Either way it's not going any where. FARK

So true, it doesn't matter how many times you tell yourself. Thanks, it is starting to sound like it is the sensor. I started the car this morning, oil pressure was great, took it down the road to mechanic. While I was cruising along the oil pressure dropped from 4 to 1.5, I freaked a bit, but it stayed there and by the time I got to the mechanic the gauge was just going all over the place. He said he'd do an oil pressure check when I take it in for a water pump issue. He seems to think it may be the sender too. He said if the oil pressure was too low I should hear some kind of rattle, and I can't and haven't heard it. Still I wont be driving it around until this is resolved. I'll definately price up a sender unit, thanks.

Cheers Beer Baron, I'm probably being overly cautious. If it does it again I'll keep in mind that I've got about two seconds .
-
I know that oil pressure gets low when idling, but it went down to zero oil pressure. When you say the engine should last thirty seconds at idle, do you mean thirty seconds until there is a knock, or thirty seconds until I destroy it?
-
I started the car. The oil pressure is beautiful again. Maybe it's the gauge, I can't see an oil pump working fine, sieze without warning, then work fine again. I'll take it to the servo, do an oil pressure check, and maybe get one of those guages like V-spec suggested.
-
I might start it again, let it idle and see if the light comes on. It wasn't knocking or anything when I turned it off. If there's no oil pressure, how long do you think I've got on idle before motor disintegrates?

I live in Canberra and bought my car from Brisbane. Are you sure you want to buy from Canberra? The market isn't very competitive here for high performance cars, demand outstrips supply (in my opinion). For Skylines in particular the best deals I've seen have been in Sydney and Brisbane. I'm not sure who you could get to check it out. The guys at "Trojan Motorsport" know their skylines, and a range of other cars. Maybe if you throw them a few dollars they may look at it for you. I don't know of them doing that though. Their number is (02)62426277.

Hi, I've read some of the other posts about this (there are quite a few) but still was wondering a few things. I went to the servo after work, when the car was idling I looked at the oil pressure. It started dropping from the middle (4) down to 2. I turned the car off, put in petrol, checked the oil (good), started the car, and it was back to normal. So I drove home, normal the whole way (only 2 minute drive) got to my driveway idled and it started dropping again 3, 2, 1. I stopped the car. started it again and it just sat on nothing, the warning light didn't come on, but I didn't let it idle for long, I've heard bad stories. It looks like it's either the sender, the oil pump, or motor's gone (unlikely running well). I was wondering how do I test easily? Does an oil pump die that quickly? If it's the oil pump, can I change the pump, or do I have to rebuild motor? I was told that something wears in the motor, which breaks the pump so no point in just changing the pump? I only have about 2K at the moment, so rebuilding the motor isn't really a good option for me. Maybe T/S for me though. C'mon Santa I need some forgies .

spotted white r33 heading down Macarthur Ave at about 6 this morning. I was heading the other way so I didn't see it for long enough to spot if it was a GTR.

I had a look at the classes and what times their running. A GTR would run in the 'SV over 3000cc' class, because it is 4WD and Turbo. So you wouldn't have to go up against one of those superlight cars. There aren't many cars running in that class from the look of things so you could be quite competitive. I've been told the first thing people want to do is get their time under a minute, but to be competitive in the SV class the time needs to be around 50 seconds. I wonder how the GTR's would go against the WRX's that are running these times?

I was talking to this guy last night, and he was telling me about his new car that he races at these hillclimbs in Canberra. I didn't even know there was anywhere to race in Canberra. I think he was saying there aren't many 4wd cars at the moment. I was wondering if anyone from SAU is representing at these things? Apparently it's really easy to get involved too. All you need is your car, a helmet, a fire extinguisher, $50, turn up and away you go. http://www.sdmahillclimb.com/

5 weeks! That's no good. I quit in 2001, I thought about them for a while. I tried a smoke 7 months later and put it out half way through. It's good that you've managed to quit without the patches because you have to quit the patches too. Sorry for the late reply. Are you still off them?
-
I smoked for ten years. For a while I was smoking a pack a day. I decided one day that I couldn't cut down the same way other people were able to, and I was sick of being controlled by it. So I had two goes at quiting. The first time I lasted a week. Then I had the shits because I could only last a week, so I quit again. This time I went on patches for two weeks. You've got to remember to take them off at night. Every time I left one on I had nightmares, and would wake up in the middle of the night and rip it off. I was sick, my chest felt shit, but after two weeks I pretty much felt right. I wasn't going through all that again, so I stayed quit. It was really, really difficult. What kept me going was being told that one day I wont feel like one, and I'd forget all about smokes, and it's true.

I can't make this one because of Stonefest, I would like to come to the next one and meet you all though. Can I suggest Debacle in Braddon for one of the nights? They have 2 for 1 on Monday and Tuesday, and the pizzas are good.

I tried that link that you put up. It doesn't work anymore. Are there any other links that anyone knows of? I'm looking for an owners manual for an R32 GTR. I found one for an R33. I think It's the GTST though. I'm not sure. http://www.bitenova.nl/tt/1azfd
