I am going to book Driver dynamic as soon as I know what my work schedule will be in 2010 January. Thanks for advice. As for the suspension, they will be revalved and resprung to Racepace track specs by Fulcrum in QLD, who is the authorised TEIN distributor. I will ask Beno and he will enlighten us on the difference between the two dyno graphs. I know he often says that comparing raw power readings between dyno charts are frivolous as there are too many different variables that cannot be taken into account. The truth is in how the car actually drives on the road, and I can assure you that the RB28, V Cam and Garrett- 5s combo drives smooth and strong and delivers the power like a NA car. By 'smooth' I mean there is virtually no turbo lag and no sudden spike in power that can throw the car off balance mid to late corner acceleration. But if it is true that the HKS demo car can generate 35% MORE power at 4000 rpms with 40% LESS boost than I am running, then I and certainly Beno ought to be IMPRESSED and ASHAMED at the same time!!!!! A few questions that I have in my mind and you guys in the know can answer for me: Aren't HKS 2530s essentially the same specs as the Garrett -5s? Can 202 rwkw be really achievable on a RB26 or RB28 for that matter with only 14.5psi of boost? Would a higher lift cam profile, say comparing 248 vs 264 on the inlet side, give better high end power and sacrifice low end power? If the 264 gives better high end power and sacrifice no low end power, then how would 272 compare?? This is getting interesting! Cheers Matt

I am in the process of organising some final finishing touches to the car, namely to the interior and exterior. Hopefully, it will be fully completed before the end of the year. I will keep everyone posted! Again, Thank you for all your input and comments! I am just dying to see Joel Strickland's pro photos of my car.

Once suspension is tuned, then this car will surely hit the track. I think the limiting factor on the track will be the driver - moi ! I plan to attend some DECA events in the future, hoping to learn from some track junkies in SAU VIC. Before that, I hope to take the car on the show/autosalon circuit maybe, if its good enough...

Eoi Genuine Rb26 Nur Long Block
tangomatt replied to tangomatt's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Bump! Still for sale. Offers accepted over $7000. Buyer needs to organise shipping at own expense. Engine is currently on engine stand in Racepace workshop and desperately wants to mate with a car. -
Help! I can't leave my car alone! New suspension setup is on its way, just another few weeks. Thanks to Import monster which enabled me to get my greedy hands on these out of production Tein RS. They are extremely rare and took many months of prowling on Yahoo Japan before being snapped up. They were definitely not cheap, I hope they are worth it. Even though these RS are superseded, the quality is second to none even when compared with the current Tein lineup. The external oil reservoirs and full aluminum shock absorbers look the biz. They are fully height; 256 ways bump and rebound adjustable. They will be entirely custom revalved and resprung for Australian roads. The obligatory pic:

Thanks Beer Baron , You literally encapsulated my state of mind about the entire build experience - refer to red highlight. I am so glad that so many of you out there understand the essence of modifying and personalising your ride piece by piece. Cheers Matt Hey Moneypit, The Racepace dyno does not give rpm readout. I have not had a chance to speak with Beno after he finished the tune. Also he does not like to reveal too much details, suffice to say to me just drive the thing and he will be grinning from ear to ear. The V Cam controller is hidden under the dash, therefore I cannot tell you. I will grill Beno for more info once I have a retune after 1000kms. Cheers Matt Thanks R31Nismoid. Beno/Racepace has really done a great job! That is also why I forbid myself to test drive a R35! Cheers Matt

Just had a professional photoshoot with Joel Strickland. The shots he took are amazing. I can't wait to share it with everyone. Thanks again to all forum members who have contributed comments, compliments, advice, and interesting queries. Thanks Aaron! As for the AD08s, they provide far better traction than my Bridgestone RE010R in 265/35 R18. Minimal traction loss changing from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd when gunning it. And man, the tread looks cool too! Cheers Matt

Detailed photos of trick vent rain channels at your request sir.... Shot taken at almost vertical angle to the vent, you cannot see the opening, therefore rain water cannot enter the engine bay directly when car is stationary. This does not matter if car is travelling at speed obviously: Shot taken at slight angle, now you see the vent opening You can see the scoop under the vent opening to catch and drain water: More detailed shots of the scoop under the vent opening: You can see that the scoop is in fact created by a second layer of carbon fibre underneath the vent. The scoop has channels which directs water inbetween the top and base layer of carbon all the way to drain holes at the leading edge of the bonnet. Man, the Nismo guys are clever, and think of absolutely everything! I hope this helps N1GTR. Cheers Matt

Thank you for your kind and encouraging comments. I really get a lot of satisfaction sharing my experience with everyone. I hope to feature the car in a performance automotive magazine at some stage, perhaps High performance imports; Autosalon magazine or Hot4s. Does anyone have connection? Please let me know. Cheers Matt

Hi Ben, My Z Tune bonnet is genuine Nismo, therefore the fit and finish is 100% bolt on, with minimal adjustment. The neat thing about the vents is that there are rain channels built in to drain moisture and rain water. The Vent outlet are angled in such a way that water does not really escape into the engine bay even when I am at the car wash - obviously not spraying water directly at the vents. Its cool and well worth the dough!

Hi guys, (Sheriff Wan; elrodeo666) I anticipated my comment about 'regretting not buying a R35 instead' would ruffle some feathers. I guess I have not had the chance to learn to unleash the full potential of what I have built yet. YES, I concede that I really NEED to take it for a 'proper' drive, or at least be a passenger with a competent driver to see what the car actually is capable of. Also, please let me clarify that I am not at all disappointed at the way the R34 has turned out. Far from it, its the most unique and best damn car I have ever owned and I don't think I will trade it for anything else for a long while. I guess I am just lamenting on the fact the performance of a heavily mod R34 is not as easily accessible to the average Joe driver like myself, as compared to a R35. The R35 is like 'point and shoot' and you are already going at warp speed. I have been practising a bit to launch my car properly and I guess I can hook it real right maybe once or twice in half a dozen attempts. Other times, it bogs, or I am worried that I will fry the Nismo clutch. Then there are those additional little gripes I have about an 'old' car, like those faded rubber seals, and annoying creaks and rattles from the interior plastics and trims, which feel so flimsy Then there is the warranty issue with all these aftermarket parts, or more accurately, lack of warranty because everything was imported through a private importer. What if the V Cam control module malfunctions? etc. The only comforting thing is at least I know the engine has been screwed together properly by Racepace. Also, going fast on twisty roads without the safety blanket of driver's aids such as traction control, anti skid, electronic brake force distribution etc can be quite disconcerting. Lastly, the amount of soot and fumes that exit the exhaust necessitates a clean or polish of my white bumper every time, otherwise a few days of leaving the fuel residue would result in a permanently yellow bumper. I think this is also wearing me out a bit. I thought the V Cam would make the engine burn cleaner, unfortunately it has not one iota of differnece compared to my original non V Cam RB. I can understand why some journos have labelled the R35 soul-less, beacuse its so easy to drive; then I guess my mod R34 most definitely has 'soul', I just don't know if its the 'Devil' lurking underneath. Cheers Matt

Thanks dazzvass. I am too scared to actually sit down and add up all the costs. But just the aftermarket parts alone add up to over $50K. I could easily buy a new R35 with what I paid for my NUR back two years ago and all the bits and pieces that I have done so far. To be honest, I regret not getting a R35 instead in some ways. I mean my car is over 7 years old, even though its low mileage. And from point to point, the R35 walks all over my modded car! The way I look at it is if I were to buy a R35, I would not be able to resist the temptation to modify it, like I did with the NUR. And we all know how much aftermarket parts for the R35 cost - just a catback exhaust will set you back over 5-6K easily. Besides, I refuse to deal with standard Nissan dealership servicing etc. Then there is the warranty issue, you mod the R35, you lose what you pay a premium for, that is the warranty. Maybe, in a few years time, I will pick up a reasonable second hand R35 and let the mods begin AGAIN.

Hey bro, that was me! Just fueled up at Shell Blackburn Road with V Power goodness, then went for a quick squirt. Man I thought you were a cop initially. I gave you thumbs up as well. Cheers

DYNO RESULT: This is the email Beno sent me when the car was ready for pickup. I will let someone who knows about GTRs summarise what the RB28 V Cam feels like on the road: The all important dyno graphs: RB26 NUR vs RB28 RB28 Power vs Boost: RB28 Power vs Lambda: Will post pictures of car this afternoon. Need to clean car first!

My intention is certainly NOT to mess with anyone or to offend anyone. I am just a guy who likes his GTR and thought it would be a good idea to share the fruits of my labour (btw many many extra hours of it mind you) with everyone! Can't make it to DECA as I have to work on those days to pay off the debt the car owns me! I assure you, this is not a marketing ploy by Racepace. However, I am their loyal customer and they have done a superb job, therefore I am just giving them a thumbs up! I bought the dash mat from Superior, can be ordered from any private JDM importer. Cheers Matt
