Mike's Engine Build
tangomatt replied to Ashy Larry's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Hey Mike, Yes the 2.8L bug finally got you too. Good choice in acquiring the HKS Step 2 kit, combined with -5s should make for some real fun! Hmm... E85? I wonder what Racepace can do with E85 tune in my car.... Instant 105 increase in power across the whole rev range with proper tune and same hardware, sound too good to be true.... need to do more research. Cheers Matt -
BTW, I picked up yet another set of wheels from Yahoo japan. I know what you guys are thinking, but I just love this JDM stuff! The obligatory pictorial: Specs: Fabulous Expand Racing R, Forged, high quality, brand new 19"X10.5" +22 offset; same as my previous Rays CE28Ns Mega lip and plenty of 'bling' 'bling'

Hey all, I haven't updated for a while now and I am very excited to see this thread has over 50,000 hits! I have been waiting patiently for the final two modifications to be fabricated and I am glad to say that they are finally ready to be installed. First is 'another' carbon clad custom steering wheel to compliment the other carbon interior pieces that I have acquired. I am sure you recalled in previous posts that I had already ordered a trick custom carbon steering wheel from Robson in Singapore. Well, it turned out that the steering rim was a bit too thick than what I would like, so it was back to square one to search for an alternative. Again, I delved in the treasure chest for JDM goods - Yahoo Japan, and discovered Jastec Design. It is small company in Japan which specialises in bespoke tailor made steering wheels for a wide range of cars. Judging by the photos on display, the craftsmanship is outstanding. Its a bit of blind faith ordering anything online, as the finished product may not always meet expectations. With the assistance of Import Monster again, I took the plunge and secured an order with a manufacturing time of 50 days. Judge the quality by the photos below: I have not had a chance to install steering wheel yet. I will post pictures when its in place. The Tein RS suspension is the last remaining mod that I had been planning for months. Racepace had received the revalved shocks from Fulcrum in QLD, using Racepace own R & D. Custom top hats also had to be custom fabricated to fit the Eibach springs. The spring rates are unkonwn to me at this stage, but Chris from Racepace tells me that the set up will be in between a race circuit car and a targa rally car. The suspension will be installed next week. Just a reminder what Tein RS's look like:

For Sale: Fabulous Forged Expand Racing R wheels in 19" X 10.5" +20 (R33 & R34 GTR offset) http://www.fabulous.co.jp/products/wheel/expand_racing/ As you can see these wheels retail for over 100,000 JYP each; more than any Rays wheels in similar dimensions I know what you are thinking - the brand name 'Fabulous' wheels does sound a bit 'sissy', but the quality and workmanship is absolutely stunning. they must be seen to be appreciated. I know a thing or two about wheels since I am self confessed wheel whore and have owned over half a dozen sets of top shelf wheels for my beloved GTR. Condition: brand new. Tyres were mounted in Japan to protect the chrome finish during transport. The rims had never been fitted to a car. The bolt holes are unscratched! NOTE: Tyres are NOT road worthy and cannot be used on road. Wheel caps included. Bought from Yahoo Japan through Import Monster. It was an impulsive buy as I got carried away with an online bidding war where winning the auction became the focus. Weight: 20.5 kg with tyre mounted! No heavy chromes here. Price: $3400 Pm if interested. Low ballers will not be responded. Cheers Matt

19 Inch Top Secret Le37 Wheels
tangomatt replied to rb31's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
FARK!!!!!!! These are awesome. In fact I did pm the original owner when the car was for sale many moons ago whether he would part with these wheels. I am tempted....... BUT what do I do with my TE37s in exactly the same size in matt black? Good luck with sale!!!! Matt -
Thanks natett! I love your build as well. KING87 - the Z Tune kit certainly makes the exterior more aggressive and even more angular. The fit should be 100% if its genuine Nismo. Well, I guess you bought at the right time with the Aussie dollar so strong. Good luck with your installation. Cheers Matt

I want a souped up supra too! The more I read this the more I want to plan for another build.

This build is epic! Those iforged wheels are absolutely amazing; on top of that they are shod of quality Michellin Pilot tyres. They would have costed a fair bit of dough. The colour is awesome and very stealth like, suits the overall theme of the car. After the R34 GTR, the supra with a widebody kit is my next most favorite JDM car. We just need better quality photos! Cheers Matt

Sorry thrtytwo for not responding earlier. With regards to the V Cam, I have chosen the mildest version - V Cam Step I, Type A that enables valve timing 90-120 degress, valve lift 8.6mm, duration IN 248. The actual benefit is readily perceivable when driving with better low end torque and pick up; quicker revving and overall drivability. The mid range is definitely improved to give a much flatter power curve; without the typical dip (of the power vs rpm curve) in the lower rev range. Top end power in my setup is largely unaffected as the Cam profile is mild only. Fuel economy theoretically should be better, but since I rev the engine pretty hard whenever I get a chance to drive, I have no real idea. The way I drive I would lucky to get 18-20L/100km!!!!! Thanks Aaron! There is so much fun and excitement in sourcing those rare, genuine, JDM out of production items with the help from Import Monster. Its like 'treasure hunting' every time I log on and browse through the hundreds of R34 GTR specific items on Yahoo Japan! I swear its becoming an addiction. Just from memory, I have been able to get some pretty rare bits and pieces: Tein RS suspension; Nismo 2002 harnesses; Nismo cigarette lighter plug; the little Moonface rubber grommet for rear wiper delete; the carbon dash overlay; Nismo stickers; Nismo S Tune suspension; and finally a carbon steering wheel The project will officially finish when: Carbon steering wheel is installed Transfer case differential modification to allow more drive to front wheels when power down Installation of Racepace modified Tein RS with custom springs and valving Complete wheel alignment with Trutrack Drag strip time at Calder... preferably not with me as driver. Magazine feature?!?! I hope. Cheers Matt

More Street Cred now with long awaited installation of Nismo Willans harness as shown previously: The inside lap sash belt of the harnesses was mounted in a proper manner with forged eyelet bolt and plate through the chassis of the car. Yes! Heaven forbid, I drilled holes in the chassis!!! This was done carefully and accurately by Racepace. Pioneer double DIN AVIC - 900BT blends in well with Carbon panels. This particular unit was chosen because of its flush mounting position; other units with sliding screen mechanism tends to sit 10-20 mm beyond the panel and is therefore not as neat. The AVIC - 900BT has every possible feature under the sun - Sat Nav; bluetooth; Ipod connectivity etc.... The instrument cluster also did not miss out on being 'carbonised'. I managed to find a thin piece of precision pre-cut carbon overlay that simply double tapes on top of the 'retro' OEM gold finished surface. As with all unique items, this was sourced from Yahoo japan through Import Monster. I think it goes well with the overall theme of the interior make-over. It certainly makes the interior more modern. The interior is still not finished as I have just ordered another modified steering wheel from Japan, once again with the help of Aaron and Rob from Import Monster.

I seriously thought about re-trimming the stock seats in Nappa leather by Garry Blackman, however, he did not seem to have much interest in a Jap car. He came across to me as somewhat 'arrogant' and 'snobby', maybe with a warehouse full of prestige European cars to work on, a JDM 10 year old GTR was not worthwhile. He did point out that the technical difficulty in re-trimming the seats is that the fabric cannot be detached from the foam base and as a result the leather needs to be glued on top, therefore leaving a less than desirable ideal outcome. I do dislike the 'polka dot' effect on the fabric of the stock seats and trim. It looks very dated shall we say. Damn, I should have bought a M spec car when I had the chance at the beginning, they came with leather seats! And those OEM leather seats are in demand as they generally go for $4000-5000 AUD for a pair on Yahoo Auction! As for the carbon parts, you can contact Tommy Wong from Robson Design Singapore. Tell him Matt from Australia recommended you, even though he probably finds me the most freaking annoying and pedantic customer ever. I emailed him a million times over about my order and kept on changing the specs until he stopped replying me! Cheers Matt

Wow! Can't believe my thread has received over 40,000 views. I have probably contributed to 1000 views myself by constantly checking your encouraging comments; participating in interesting discussions and posting frequent updates! Keep it up guys! Anyway, my interior modification has stalled a bit.... You see I was originally planning on replacing the stock front seats with a set of Recaro sportster CS, however, I was not 100% convinced that the Recaros would be better than the stock BNR34 seats from a visual, comfort and driver support point of view. I am still agonising over this indecision. I mean the stock BNR34 seats are so damn supportive and aggressive looking, it would almost be a 'downgrade' to change to anything else. I have spent many hours at Ideal Seats in Moorabbin, just staring at the Sportsters CS's and hassleing the owner, Micheal, about every little detail. A BIG thanks and cheerio to Micheal for his patience and his no obligation approach to business. He is such a nice guy that I almost feel obliged to 'buy' something' from him - maybe Recaros for my daily drive?!?!? See photo: Another area that I wanted to pay attention to was the steering wheel, I went to the trouble of buying another stock steering wheel rim from yahoo Japan through, once again Import Monster, and then sent it all the way to Robson Singapore to be carbonised and modernised. The design of the steering wheel was decided just based on photos on the website - I had to determine the shape of the grip; the extent of carbon; the type, colour of leather; and the colour of the stitching and the type of stitching pattern. To say the least, I was a bit disappointed in the end result as I found the steering wheel a bt too thick from my grip size. I think it would great for someone with large hands. I am currently after another modified steering wheel from a Japanese company called Jastec Design through Import Monster again. You can call on Import Monster to source for anything JDM rare items. I will keep you posted. Otherwise, stereo is in - its a DIY job. Nismo harness to be fitted next week. BTW wife is due with third child next week as well. I guess I need to prioritise my life properly - family before GTR or GTR before family

A modders heaven - HKS parts neatly stacked on display atop its carton box. Looking foward to this one!

Stunning combination - LMGT4s + Bayside Blue BNR34! Congrats Garland.

Just want to give online shift boot store -www.Redlinegoods.com a thumbs up for their outstanding customer service and high quality products. The owner, Maciek, certainly delivers what he promises. I am one happy customer and you all should know how fussy/discerning I am with fit and finish of aftermarket gear. I will let the photos speak for themselves: Cheers Matt

I finally got the airbag light issue sorted. The secret was to unplug the Power FC and revert back to the OEM ecu, then carry out the reset procedure of pressing the driver door jam for five times within 7 secs (well you all know the drill). Well I actually paid Racepace to it sorted and they did, so I am told of the above Cheers Matt
