  1. yes it is. I was on my way to lunch - you won't be able to spot me easily as I was in our family's RAV4
  2. for some reasons it seems to start working again... but until it's constantly doing without fault over the next few days I wouldn't say it's back from the dead as yet!
  3. I think I spoted xscape237 today @ ballarat rd 12:30-ish turning in from small st - sporting his 20" chromies...
  4. did I just spot you @ ballarat rd?

yep, if car designers are ready to toss it into the bin, will consumers be ready to opt for rear camera instead of a conventional wing mirror for future 'upgradability' and 'expandability' to one of those rice carbon wing mirror mods or GT-mirror?
  6. that's what people said, holding it down for 10 seconds disable it totally. simply pressing it, it will still kicks in if the car goes out of shape badly...

what that article means is in the future side mirror will be replaced by a tiny camera. similar to the concept of reversing camera. it has been in many vehicle concepts to have side cameras instead of conventional mirror.

Found this interesting read on theage http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-news/enda...00114-m8no.html Having driven some late european model cars, I do agree that car key, hand brake (as well as foot operated park brake) are definitely on its way out. Replaced by smart keys and electronic button-operated park brake. Clutch pedal might as well soon - even R35 GTR does not want to do anything with clutch pedal. Lap seatbelt is on its way out - most late model cars now are fitted with lap-sash 3 point seatbelts for rear middle passenger... Dun think mirror yet, but who knows 10 years from now, no cars will have side mirrors anymore...
  9. still need one for SA...
  10. Nigel, free plug for you in my Youtube video 'promo' I'll add your email as contact point for WA in the Youtube video caption/comment
  11. there should be a VDC off light on your speedo. go on man don't be scared to push any button. have fun.
  12. VDC = Vehicle Dynamic Control. it turns off your traction control / stability system, so in a wet corner you can go out of shape or drifting. the little round one is usually for mirror down when reversing, but many was disabled or no longer working, plus people believe dipping the mirror every reverse could wear out the mirror motor faster. on my car it doesn't work either, and has been rewired by Chris Rogers as the master switch for Garmin to take over the screen.
  13. sorry stephen, can't help thinking of Klingons, phasers, and cloaking device
  14. all the wiring in my car wasn't done by myself - I know the concept although I never tried to find a +12ve wire before - u should not trust me with wiring in your car. best if u take it to an audio shop. i'm sure chris rogers said already garmin is not diy. u could end up in tears if u get it wrong.
  15. when the 2005 model version available I will be doing that as well for Melbourne. I'm sure it'll all be announced here by Andy when it becomes available. TV & Nav - thank's to Chris Rogers' "creativity" On my car it's even complicated because I also have aftermarket reverse camera that overtakes everything on screen as soon as I put it into reverse. I think I better stop there before my car becomes a rolling Star Trek's USS Enterprise E. Tempted to wire in a phaser torpedo behind the grill...
  16. anytime next week after work? except Monday & Tuesday - I have prior arrangements on those days. If you want ring me tomorrow morning after 9 - phone in my signature below. will need to discuss timing.
  17. ah, yes - you got back seat passenger to entertain... I don't :-) even if I have - probably a coupe wasn't a very ideal transport
  18. I found TV was a bit of a waste. if I had to go back all over again, I would probably just fit FM band expander on radio and wire the Garmin on the Japanese TV's Aux input. That is probably the only 2 things that I would use pretty much on almost daily basis. Saved me a few hundreds, but since I got it now, I will keep it. There is a DIY thread on M35 Stagea section showing how to wire Aus TV tuner e.g. Asuka or HiTV unit into the japanese TV tuner's Aux in. Do a search there. I don't have a direct link, sorry. The basic wiring principle would be similar to V35. FM band expander any car audio shop can do if you don't want DIY. Otherwise there's lots of ppl who has done it themselves, ask around this forum. I was told it was just inline connection in the aerial plus finding a +12V and ground. Doesn't need rocket science for that.
  19. damn... then by the time you stripped the door you start thinking... why not replace the window motor as they might be on the way out too? doesn't stop there isn't it?
  20. is it worth replacing driver side too? e.g. do they often fail at the same time?
  21. same as USDM door lock actuator parts?
  22. no the door lock button is to lock/unlock... that only locks/unlock driver side now. the other one is for windows lock. no other buttons. as well as the alarm remote/fob key. damn - Chris said it's not really DIY, need to strip down passenger door down to shell to get to the actuator... I can only unlock the passenger car from inside the car now by pushing on the door handle button. but when I unlock/lock using fob, I can hear the passenger side actuator working but it doesn't open. maybe some kind of a catch got loose in the passenger side so the actuator wasn't pulling/pushing anything... :-(
  23. Brad I sent you a pm how to check your oem GPS signals.
  24. I thought that was for windows? I never paid attention it had something for door lock too?
  25. well I think either time or the 46C heat yesterday (or maybe combination) finally killed my passenger door lock actuator. it won't trigger lock/unlock via the remote anymore. any idea how much it cost and if it is DIY?
