Could u please quote that thread or copy it or email it or something. I can't read i'm but am very keen to.

    Hi there ...

Sorry about that, I didn't realized you had to be registered to follow the link.

I will talk to the admin in the UK how to access the article.

I'd be feeling kinda bad if I'd just copy and paste it ..

However, the guy who gave the answers to all the questions has it all posted here:

  2. Regardless of which oil i use, i will still change it at 5000kms. Its not like the oil wont get dirty...and if it doesn't, it means it aint cleaning the engine.

    I change the oil+filter if :

    • The oil looks quite dark/used
    • A certain time has passed (once a year at least)
    • Or a certain distance has been covered

Changing the oil every 5000km is definitely not a bad thing, but when using HQ oil (as you do) you could

probably extend the interval .. (unless you move the car on the track)

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  3. Hi ..

It all depends what load you impose on the engine.

In my case I drive a fairly standard R33GTSTS2 and I definitely don't need

no oil deemed for racing purposes.

I will stick with 5W-40 in a good quality (Mobile, Shell, BP ..)

    As long as the oil:

    1. Is shear-resistant
    2. Is thin enough at cold start to lubricate all parts quickly (so 5-W)
    3. Is thick enough at high temperatures
    4. Is suitable for turbo lubrication
    5. Makes the valve lifters happy
    6. Keeps the engine clean (no sludge buildup)

I'm fine with a 'standard' oil.

    Here's a good article ..

  4. Hi there ..

I was confronted with the same problem, my Skyline needed an oilchange and I was wondering what the best treat would be.

I did a lot of reading and scrolled through many messages.

In addition I called the usual Skyline maintenance shops in the UK for a quote for an

oil change and it ranged from 200AUD to 270AUD.

They said they had just one high performance oil that they were using for their oil changes.

But since I don't race my Skyline that was too expensive (and a waste) for me.

In the end I used a synthetic oil 5W40 from BP.

The oil change did cost me around 110AUD with filter!

And that was done by a workshop where you just drive by without an appointment.

My recommendation is using a 5W40 or 10W50 oil of a well known brand.

It can be a semi synthetic or fully synthetic.

However, if you subject the car to a lot of load and rev it like hell on the track you should consider going for

one of the more expensive oils.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  5. Hello there!

I own a R33S2, I bought it last year and had it only for 4 months.

(So excuse the naive question) ;)

But how do I interpret the boost gauge reading?

It goes from -7 to +7, right?

But when I drive the gauge only hovers around -3 to +2, but it never goes over +2 or +3 ..

Shouldn't it go up to +7 for full boost??

I floored the pedal 70% at around 5000rpm in 5th gear, but the gauge only went to about +3.

Do I have to floor it all the way to get full boost or should the boost have come up more already?

    Thanks for the help ..

    Andrew

  6. Hi there,

    Many thanks for the input.

I recon the bell mouth unit would be a good choice since I see no added benefit

to the elbow with the tiny swing gate pipe.

However I was reading through the downpipe mounting thread and what I don't want

is a downpipe without heat shields mount holes.

Nissan put the heat shields in for a good reason and I don't want to end up with melted

plastic parts anywhere near the elbow/down pipe.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  7. Hello there,

I have this R33GTST and was thinking about an aftermarket downpipe (if that's of use to reduce backpressure??)

The car is genuine, except for a larger exhaust .. but I'm planning on upping the boost a bit soon (and later maybe fitting a R34 intercooler)

I was told spoolup time would decrease? (is this noticeable with my setup?)

Since I'm quite new to the car I'm a bit lost about choosing the right product ..

Can you help me out? (and what's this elbow for??)

Here are the links to different products (please advice):

  8. Hello to Oz from London,

I have bought an R33 Spec II 1997 genuine (unmolested) car recently.

I would like to improve the car in a moderate and aesthetic way without ripping too much apart or

ending up with a messy looking engine bay :D

What benefit would I get from a stainless steel exhaust manifold or an aftermarket downpipe?

(The R33 has a catback 3'' aftermarket exhaust)

    Or asked another way:

What modification would you recommend to improve performance (my target would be 300HP for the time being)?

Since the car is a daily commuter and grocery getter, drivability is paramount.

So I'm more interested in higher torque figures than a peaky power curve.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  9. I dont think the ECU's are interchangeable, aside from the igniter the AFM is a different part number (has a pink sticker instead of green?) as well

    Hi!

Thanks for pointing this out, since I'm quite new to Skylines :(

As for the AFM there seems to be a mesh of wires inside, compared to a single wire prior to S2.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  10. Hi Terry,

    Good point!

I'll see after the coolant ... I don't want any rust in the system ..

In addition I spotted a huge dragon fly that dented the AC condenser (sits before the water cooler)

maybe the dragon fly is from Japan .. since it has Godzilla size :( however the AC seems to be working in order (apart from a gurgling sound)

What an adventure ... but I am starting to like it :D

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  11. Hi Terry,

Thanks for the information, much appreciated.

I tried driving to Abbey Motor Sports for an Oil change.

    http://www.abbeymotorsport.co.uk/

However they wanted to charge 125 GBP, that's 270 AUD. :P

I found that too expensive, since my car is not modified and not pushed hard at the moment.

However, my oil looks a bit on the used side, and since I don't know how the car was serviced I'd like to have an oil change soon.

The spark plugs would be worth changing as well (unless they look alright)

I will not go for pricy iridium, rather for copper or platinum.

The air filter has been changed already by me, the old one looked a bit clogged:

    http://www.strangelanding.com/skyline/filter.jpg

As for the battery I'm inclined buying a new one, but for now the old battery seems to be in good health.

    Cheers,

    Andrew :)

  12. This thread is a very good read.... congrats on your purchase and may the series 2 be with you for a loooooong time

    Hi Marsss,

Gad you like the threat since I thought I might bore people to death. :)

I actually heard first about the Skyline in 2005 in a (UK) TV-Series called Top Gear (not a very good series by now).

They showed some crazy Japanese people on a drag strip and the commentator mentioned that they were using a Skyline

which could be easily tuned to insane HP. (I had now idea what a Skyline was, but I quite liked the name of the car and it somehow stuck with me)

A year later I was working in Tokyo for 8 months and on my daily commute trough Tokyo I saw a Skyline for the first time for real.

(Of course I had forgotten about the Top Gear reportage, but when I saw the car it all came back to memory)

The driver was a normal looking family guy in a suit and the car was looking quite standard.

I liked the car from the moment I saw it and when it disappeared into Tokyo's traffic the thought was born to buy one ...

2 years later I finally bought a Skyline (after having seen about 5 and doing much research).

    Cheers,

    Andreas
