  1. The car has 110,000 ks on it. Its going in for a major service, then straight after that looking at a new turbo setup, PFC, injectors, pump etc etc. It definitely is coming from the head, I put my ear next to each cylinder and listened. I'm not particularly worried because the car seems to run otherwise fine but the major service should pick up anything wrong with it either way. Thanks alot for the reply mate =)
  2. Opened the bonnet today after a good hill climb, and there was a tapping noise above cylinders 1 and 6. Now my car (R33 gts-t) is stock apart from full exhaust and pod. My fuel economy is about 450+ km to the tank, and the engine/gearbox seems nice and tight. HOWEVER the turbo is on its way out (has been whistling up high for some time now and its getting worse). I only noticed the tapping develop recently. Perhaps the turbo is chewing up oil and not enough is circulating to the head? I dunno, oil pressure doesn't seem particularly low. And no oil is being spit out of the intake manifold or anything like that. I hope its not bearings - but the noise doesn't get louder when the car gets hotter or revs higher. I've listened to other engines with bearings going and the noise they made was REALLY irritating and got worse. Help?
  3. very interested, but need the part number before I buy. Post it up please =)
  4. Ok its all explained now. Here you go if anyone needs this for future reference: BUYING OVER THE INTERNET - IMPORT DUTY & COSTS http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=5549
  5. Ok never mind, I found some obscure PDF document on the government website that says anything under $1000 AUS is waived import duty. Still have NO idea how the costs structure works for anything above the $1000 threshold though. http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resource...ces/ACN0621.pdf is the link if anyone wants to look at it.
  6. Ok just to get something straight. Import duty of an imported good is 10% of the FOB cost. If the cost of the item is under $1000 AU do you escape the import duty? Any other hidden costs involved?
  7. ^^^ Well there's heaps of split dump pipes out there that have an open wastegate pipe (i.e. not welded back into the front pipe like an ordinary split). It probably would help surge and give better exhaust flow as well. Have a look and see if you can find anyone running one of those. Although if you are getting an aftermarket turbo and are thinking of that sort of setup, why not just get an external wastegate?
  8. Apparently horsepowerinabox DOES do garret IW housing for 3071R, and at a good price. I'll double-check the exact specs to make sure, but i've found that they do a 0.63 3071R for a very good price WITH braided fitting kit if needed. To quote: "I can do one with the garrett internal pattern .63 gt3071 (in stock), oilwater kit in braided and a dump flange for $2050 delivered. you will need to mess with inlet plumbing. the 3071 comes with either a 4" or 2 1/2" comp inlet as well.. turbo alone $1750 del." Itd be good if everyone interested in a 3071R eventually posted up theyre supplier, would make for a really good thread on these turbos. When i get mine soon from wherever i finally decide, I'll definitely put it up there.
  9. oh yeh that is very true... completely forgot about all that
  10. I guess if they're close to home that might be a bonus for you... ive been looking around myself to buy within the next couple of weeks... ATP quotes (in US dollars) around $1450 plus $95 shipping to your door. Converting that to Australian dollars gives around $1730 Aus delivered to your door. And thats with the proper garret IW housing (0.63 im going for with a 2.75" inlet diameter in case anyone is interested in similar). Get a fitting kit local from somewhere and you're looking at about $2000. I haven't bought anything just yet, still looking. Anyone else's hunting experience is welcome.
  11. those prices seem a bit high in all honesty...
  12. With supporting mods, a 3071 should be capable of reaching that power figure with that type of housing. Interestingly though, its usually sold with a 0.5 comp a/r. Anyway, that turbo should be capable (given its garret IW - with that turb housing it should be), but always remember that the peak power figure your dyno says at the end of the day isnt everything. A 1.06 housing is pretty big. I dont know of that many dyno sheets around here to look at for the 3071, but my guess is that u might experience a bit of lag & a highish boost threshold. If thats ok with you though, go for it, and let us know the results =)
  13. yeh that makes sense. And yes, i will get the correct spec 3071. Ive already got in touch with horsepowerinabox, they can do a complete kit with the proper garret .63 housing, including all lines for $2050. Got a mate who has contacts in Honeywell however... might see what he can do Throw in my PFC, injectors, fuel pump... and everyones happy =D Il definitely let everyone know the feel of the turbo; its reputation is definitely growing as an alternative to the GT-RS and similar turbos (and at a cheaper price). Thanks for the help =)
  14. Well after a LOT of looking around at the options, i'm looking at a GT3071R with a 0.63 housing. The last choice left to make is the compressor inlet size which comes in 4" or 2.5". Why? What possible differences does this make? (If the answer is NOTHING sorry for asking... but i gotta know!)
  15. I got one (its not on an RB20, its on an RB25). I bought it as part of a full turbo-back exhaust system from Just jap, with the high-flow cat. Performance-wise, i noticed a BIG difference to be honest, especially up high in the rev-range. Definitely lets the turbo breath a bit better. Its still going fine for me (haven't had a look to see if its gone purple though), and the craftsmanship seemed pretty decent when i inspected it after purchase. I fitted it myself with a couple of mates (at 2 am in a shopping car park LOL) and had a tiny bit of trouble bolting the dump up. Just make sure u use the couple of the gaskets that are provided, as well as the stock metal one to make sure theres no leaks - otherwise it may come a bit short. Heaps of people will argue for/against the split till the cows come home. My opinion is that the split arrangement should theoretically improve transient response: although the wastegate & turbine gases do ultimately meet anyway where the split pipes merge into the front pipe, the initial twin piping should help to keep the gas streams separate. This in turn reduces turbulence directly adjacent to the turbine and allows your turbo to work that little bit easier. In any case, its definitely an upgrade over the stock item you've got.
  16. thanx, just searched, many good results... looks like a lot of people like the 3071. ive currently got a split dump off the stock turbo... will this need to change? anything else?
  17. Doing the turbo upgrade soon been looking at a garret GT2871R along with: - Full exhaust (done) - PFC (got it =D) - front mount (got it) - EBC - fuel pump (???) - injectors (???) Chasing mid 200's at the treads (give or take), but im going to do it all at once since this is the last thing im gonna do under the hood (really....) Just had a look in the sticky turbo thread, but couldnt really get an idea of the difference b/w the sizes (0.64 or 0.86). Experiences/opinions? and anything else i should add to the shopping list?

    I'm In Denial!

HA thats what you think... and then you'll wonder why he sold it to you for 6 grand
  19. ok sweet thanx alot for that mate =D
  20. Looking to buy a power fc for RB25. Ive searched everywhere for the answer, but couldnt find it in the PowerFC FAQ. Is a hand-controller necessary to tune a power-FC if you dont have one? Or can it be done via laptop or other means?
  21. There we go, thats the exhaust... yes its not the best condition but its not rusting... NO HOLES/LEAKS ETC. PLEASE JUST GIVE ME AN OFFER ON ANY OF THE STUFF.... ALL OFFERS CONSIDERED. =D
  22. Nope its not stock. Its twin 2.5 (or maybe 3?) inch pipes from the cat all the way back, twin muffler setup as well so it very quiet. However, I do have the stock standard R33 GTS-T dump and front pipes available as well. I'm located in SE suburbs of melbourne, call on 0423 280 746 if you're interested. Pics of the exhaust go up tomorrow =D
