  1. Yeah different shades, S2 silver is darker.
  2. Tony, if you were so concerned about owning a colour that is as common as silver, then why did you buy a Skyline?
  3. As subject says, mine is a bit tatty so I'm looking for one in good condition.
  4. How do you bleed the radiator? I know where the bleeder is, but dunno how to do it exactly. Do you just fill up the radiator and leave the bleeder open until all the air bubbles escape then close it again? Also how long does the water pump usually last? I'm just wondering if I should change it at the same time as I do a coolant flush with my upcoming 100k km service.
  5. If/when I can ever afford the $1k+ for an aftermarket ECU, I will get whatever Mark at Hills Motorsports can program the best
  6. I don't have any pics of the crossmember, but if you just follow the suspension arms to a pivot, you'll see a big metal beam that goes under the engine behind the sump. It's basically the front support for the whole front of your car. The trolley jack goes in the middle and you raise both front wheels at the same time in this manner.
  7. Oh, here's a couple more pics that I took today after I cleaned up the cam covers. Edit: Note the new position of the crankcase breather with the zip tie around it. It fell off! I looked under the bonnet last night and thought I had lost it forever, then I noticed it wedged down the side between the guard and heat shield or something. God knows how long it was there, I went for a very long drive on the weekend!
  8. Sik32, there's more all through the entire rev range. So there is a lot more up top, but don't forget I also had a new intercooler put in to replace my old restrictive one. It was a combination of the 2 that gave me a hell of a lot more power. Also, the more I think about it the more I think there's gotta be more power down low. The bog-down effect I had previously was partially because of throttle lag, but now I'm sure mostly it was because it had less power. You could feel the engine sort of almost stall before, and I'm sure that has to be due to less power rather than a delay in the throttle response. If you have a front-mount intercooler and have the spare funds, I can't see any reason not to get a forward-facing plenum. It will definitely improve your throttle response, and alomst certainly add 10-20kw to your power. I still haven't dyno'd it, the guys were too busy on Saturday I'll get it done when I get the new fuel pump put in and the S-AFC re-tuned.
  9. That's a bit of lateral thinking there Jay! More reliable and easier than the tyre jack that's for sure. I never thought of that. Probably because I don't really have anything like that in my garage that caught my eye to give me the idea at the time I'm gonna go visit my dad and see if he's got any bits of wood he don't want anymore.
  10. I use the front crossmember on every car I've ever owned, and the Skyline is no exception. (it's the bit that your front suspension arms attach to, under the engine) The problem after lowering it is that the jack is too tall to go under the front bar! So I have to jack up the side a bit using my tyre jack, then use the trolley jack to jack it up the rest of the way, and leave the tyre jack there so I can lower it back down onto it before taking the trolley jack out.
  11. Hard to say. The throttle is a lot more responsive down low and because of this it's hard to tell if the power is any less. But I'd say it's not very noticable either way and I'd rather have the better throttle response.
  12. Nah I just got them to do the work and they were absolute magicians with it. When I bought my home made one 2nd hand I found out a couple of days later that Hills made their own Actually from one of your posts I think Oh well, it'll give me something to upgrade in the future. Mine was intended as a cheap upgrade and I already went way over budget with the new intercooler. I don't regret doing that at all though.
  13. A new plenum obviously has to come along with a front-mount intercooler. If you also have the exhaust done, I would say the plenum is definitely worthwhile doing. If nothing else it will improve your throttle response, and in theory should be good for at least 10-20kw. For a mild car the cut-n-shut option is probably going to be the best value, you can't really get the most out of the expensive ones until you start going wild with the mods.
  14. Sorry guys it was sold by the guys at Hills before I got there this morning In a way I am glad I didn't have to sell it to someone with a Skyline, it really is a bit small and I think you would have been disappointed. Especially with the piping if you were counting on re-using it. Save up the extra $150 or so and buy a second hand GTR intercooler, it'll be worth the extra money for sure. As for the guys with smaller cars that enquired (180SX, Celica GT4), well, I'm just sorry The intercooler is going in a turbo Gemini, and I think that it will suit that car perfectly.
  15. Just FYI guys: Jet seems to want to buy it at this stage, so he's got first dibs on it pending checking it for leaks etc. I'll let you know if he changes his mind.
  16. I didn't get back to the workshop today, I'm going back tomorrow morning to get 2 tyres and take pics of it. But I completely forgot, I've got pics of it mounted in my car So here's the best one I have of it in my car, taken a few weeks ago. Edit: My mistake, that pic wasn't taken a few weeks ago, it was October last year just after the respray, hence the missing badge which hadn't arrived from Japan yet. The lower side of the front bar is also in way too good condition for it to be that recent
  17. It's a homemade job, I bought it off GR8NES for $500. I don't imagine it works quite as well as the one made by Hills Motorsport, but it was cheap and it does the job
  18. Putting your own coilovers in is easy, and so is forgetting to do the wheel alignment afterwards I'm paying the price of 2 near-new tyres scrubbed out within 10000km For the rears, remove parcel shelf and rear wheels (jack car up and put on axle stands). Loosen the top 2 bolts, undo bolt down the bottom, knock the shock off, then undo the top 2 the rest of the way (helps if you've got someone to hold the shock and stop it falling on the ground). For the fronts, jack the front up, put axle stands under the crossmember rather than the suspension arms, take wheels off, undo the top/bottom same as the rears. It's pretty simple, just keep in mind that the top bolts shouldn't be done up too tightly or you'll snap them, and the bottom should be done up very tightly.
  19. This is a message I typed up on Overclockers. Thought some people here might be interested too Well, I managed to scrape some money together and pick up my car a day early. It ran rather late because the plenum is far from a perfect fit, and the guys at Hills had to do a lot of fiddling around getting it just right. When I got there they were playing around with the intercooler piping and the idling. But it's all back in one piece now. Didn't have time to do a dyno run, but I'll try to get them to squeeze me in when I take it back tomorrow for 2 new front tyres and a wheel alignment. Oh, warning kids: Don't be stupid like me and forget to do a wheel alignment after you lower the car. Less than 10000km later I'm down to the metal belts on the inside of the front right. *sigh* It's not the sort of thing you notice if you can't see the inside of the tyre easily at a glance. I check the tyres fairly regularly but I never really got a good look at the inside edges. A hard lesson well learned. Thanks very much to the guys at Hills Motorsport, I don't think you'll ever meet a more bunch of dedicated mechanics that REALLY know what they're doing. This plenum was such an unknown and problematic factor that I think most other workshops would have thrown it out and told me to never come back Oh, and how's the power now? Well, accelerating in a perfectly straight line, hit about 5500rpm in 2nd gear and the rear stepped out. I got scared  Edit: hmm where's the eek icon? Here's some pics. Yes I know the rocker covers look shite, thanks to the previous owner. I'll try cleaning them up on the weekend. The rest of the pics can be found here.
  20. So, are you gonna share the information that Speedworks gave you?
  21. As subject says. Don't know where it was made because it came with the car. It came off my R33, but it's a bit too small to suit a Skyline. It would go a lot better on a 1.8 to 2.0L engine, maybe a Pulsar GTiR or 200SX? It has the inlet and outlet in the centre of the end tanks. It comes with piping to suit a Skyline, but I don't recommend you fit it unless you're on a real budget. It's not very pretty both appearance-wise and flow-wise. The cooler is currently sitting in the workshop of Hills Motorsport. I will go back there tomorrow and take some pics of it (didn't have my camera on me tonight). Asking $350. Edit: It's been sold!!! No more enquiries please
  22. Have you still got the sub? Have you got any pics of it mounted in your boot?
  23. JimX

    dynotune?

I don't think you can do anything other than clean the injectors and change the plugs. If you haven't done so already then reset the ECU to have it more able to "learn" about your mods. To go from there you'd need either a replacement ECU like a PowerFC, or a piggyback job like an S-AFC.
