  1. Hmm, I had a reply here, where did it go? Anyway... from my struggling memory it was something like this: I agree that the R34 has a few more standard features. But they would only account for around 25% of the extra "value" associated with the car. And yet a GTT still costs around double a GTS-t made only a couple of months before it. Just because the price sticker is twice as much doesn't make it twice the car, not by a long shot. Public perception is the main thing that keeps the R34 prices inflated. Well, that and their relative rarity I suppose. Give it a year or two when the R35 becomes vogue (ok most people seem to hate it now, ask them again in a year's time) and I'd expect the price difference between the R33 and 34 to be much more realistic. Btw, I love my series 1 velour. Wouldn't trade it for the highest spec cloth interior in the world So on that level I don't even see the R34's interior as "better". As for the rest - aside from the different gauges and such it still looks fundamentally like a Skyline - far fewer differences than between, say, a VS and a VT Commodore.
  2. Those end tanks are a little bit shocking. Who made it?
  3. I don't know if you've been in there before but to anyone else contemplating it - don't bother. It's one of the biggest and wankiest places I've been to, and your example is just one of many reasons. It's full of old rich men and fat chicks. Any of the pretty girls are most likely escorts/prostitutes. I went there a couple of months ago, a female friend of mine had met a "rich" guy who wanted to meet up with her there, so her, me, my gf and another one of their friends went there. He turned up late, then immediately said we should all go to another club at Darling Harbour. He had a Porsche 911 something (looked entirely bog-standard, not even window tints) and only had room for 2 people (back seat only seats 1). So me and my gf said seeya later and the other 2 girls went with him. We got a phone call later on that night from the girls asking if they could be picked up, because the ****tard decided he had a headache and wanted to go home and didn't wanna take the girls home! How ****ed up is that? And this guy's base of operations is the Establishment. He fits right in.
  4. Can you spell "marketing"? It seems to have worked its charms on you
  5. I think various makes and models are different, some are checked in or out of gear, hot or cold. But the way we did Falcons and Lasers etc when I worked at a Ford dealership is with the engine warm, in drive, with air con on. Not sure if that's "normal" or not. From memory the difference is not all that great between all the above variables.
  6. Yes, easy. You can get over 200rwkw without worrying about fuel problems.
  7. Have you considered something like this R31 GTS-X? That particular one is almost fully stock, you could take all your nice suspension bits off your current car and put them on the new one. Since it's so cheap you could get away with third party property damage insurance.
  8. As previously mentioned, it's sold I've edited the thread title and original post to reflect this.
  9. There are much cheaper systems than Boomerang that do essentially the same things, they cost around half as much. There were a few threads on these forums about them, do a search. The problem with Boomerangs and the like is that apparently either most installers don't bother to wire up the immobilisers on them or they can only get one in, and/or the immobiliser on the system is easily defeated. I've heard a few different stories but they all tend to say that they're not the best option for security. For $1000 I would be looking at a Brant. Edit: If you really want an alarm with the paging function and other funky features then look at one of the Boomerang clones and save some money.
  10. Irrelevant. If I couldn't afford the insurance on a turbo Skyline I wouldn't think twice about owning an NA one in preference to a V6 Commodore. Look at what Kaige said originally, he can't get the insurance. I'm not saying I prefer a less powerful car, I'm just saying that people tend to forget the other great features of Skylines (R32 and onwards anyway) which put them above other similar non-turbo cars.
  11. Lambo, a fine mesh filter will help stop large sprays of water hitting the filter, but you will also need to make sure the filter itself is still water resistant. I'm not sure what filter you have there right now, but I think the Blitz filter is made of a fine mesh metal itself. That could be the way to go from there. Just be wary of rust
  12. Is there any indication that it was actually built in 1995? Like, is the steering wheel of that shape just for the '95 model? I'm not big on the subtle changes, so just based on the same things observed it looks to me like a series 1 full stop, with nothing to say that it wasn't even built in 1993. Your price estimate seems about right, but I'd drop it even lower if it was a '93 or '94 model. Plus the odometer seems way too low even for a '95 model. I'd be very wary of that. I mean, why did it need a new clutch after only 55000km with such mild mods? My clutch lasted around 80000km before the previous owner replaced it, and the car has more mods than this one.
  13. Brant are widely accepted as one of the best immobilisers out there. They do a package which incorporates their immobiliser with the Quicktrak tracking system (Quicktrak themselves might also use the Brant system, I don't know). I know that a keypad system is at least an option on the Brant system, I hope that it's not standard because I really hate any security measure other than a remote push button. If your car needs a keypad to get it started, I think it's almost certainly going to be useless because your car will just be towed if the security measures are that tough. That's what the tracking system is for
  14. Why is everyone obsessed with power? Ok, sure it's good to have more power, but just because a car doesn't have a turbo on it doesn't mean it's crap. An R32 GTS of the same year make as a V6 Commodore or Falcon will still be faster, and have similar features to a Berlina or Fairmont. This includes power windows, climate control, etc. If I got given the choice between a '92 NA R32 or a '92 Berlina or Fairmont, I would take the R32. I don't see any problem with getting a non-turbo Skyline to tide you over until you can afford the insurance on the turbo version. If you want something a little different, have you considered a non-turbo GTS-4? When the time comes, just do an RB26 conversion and you've got yourself 90% of a GTR.
  15. Dremen, did you find out why the pod filter was illegal? Was it due to emissions or noise pollution or something else? Either way, the solution is simple. Get a cold air box from somewhere like UAS or Hills Motorsports (Hills do a much better one than UAS, but costs about double) and put the pod inside that. The reason why I ask if your defect notice was due to emissions or noise is because a pod in a box still makes a lot of noise so it still might be illegal for noise reasons. Oh, for anyone that finds the flat filter to flow better than their pod, it was because your pod was sucking in a lot of hot air from your engine bay. I had the same problem, but I got a UAS box and it fixed the power right up again.
  16. England was the only country outside of Japan where the GTR was regularly exported to by Nissan (this will change with future models I believe). Aside from small volume one-offs like Australia's 500 R32 GTRs. I don't think England got any GTS-t's, which would explain why GTRs are the predominant model Skyline over there.
  17. Most panel shops can respray the quarters of a car for about $300-$500. Maybe a bit less for the roof. If there are only a few chips, get someone like Chips Away to repair them. I've got a big stone chip in my bonnet I want to fix, it's just a hassle to find the time to get it done.
  18. It's a common problem which has many theories. From bov to fuel pressure to idle speed or mixture. Could be that they can all do it and you just have to find out which one it is. Mine does it if I tap the accelerator up to about 3000rpm or more and then let it immediately go back down to idle. I changed my driving habits so that I slowly release the accelerator back down to idle, or if I've come off the gas harshly, I leave the gears engaged for a few seconds until it's past the stalling stage. Now it only happens if I go to take off in heavy traffic but then realise that it was only a short move required and I quickly come off the accelerator again by reflex.
  19. I don't have a problem with Commodores, I think they are good for what they are. My last car was a mild VS V8 and it went pretty well. No Skyline can compete with the amount of space you get in one, so if only for that reason no one can say a Skyline is better at everything than a Commodore. What I have a problem with though is a small minority of non-performance car drivers (majority of which seem to be V6 Commodore drivers) who think they are king shit. I have seen all kinds of makes and models drive like hoons, but I can't remember I saw a real performance car driver (ie, one that has been modified, of any make) act like a dangerous idiot - ie, tailgating me, cutting me off, swerving at me, etc. This is even when I was driving a Commodore (and Toranas) myself. In my experience, it is primarily the unmodified Commodore brigade which do this, even V8's and some HSV ones. Partly because most cars on the road are Commodores and therefore it's just the law of averages, but also partly I think because idiots tend to go along with the flow and buy whatever car they think is most popular. So you get a compounding of the problem. I think this is why also I see so many clueless Camry drivers, another popular car. This thread however is proof that hatred of other makes and models is not limited to Holden owners. I personally don't hate any particular make or model of car, but do observe which types of drivers are more likely to give me grief on the road and try to stay clear of them. Also, earlier you made reference earlier to GTS-t owners thinking that their car was like a GTR, and likening that to an XF Falcon owner thinking that their car was like a GTHO. I don't think your analogy is very good. On a handling and power level out of the box, the GTS-t is probably 2/3 the car of a GTR. An XF is probably 1/8 the car of a GTHO. The 1/8 ratio or similar also applies to other cars like regular Lancers to Evo's and non-turbo Imprezas to WRX's, but I believe the GTS-t is an exception. Compare the factory 1/4 mile times for all the aforementioned for a simplistic overview.
  20. Try taking it to Hills Motorsports in Castle Hill. They're open on Saturdays but I'm not sure about this weekend because of Anzac Day. Give them a ring on Saturday morning.
  21. Would you be able to put it in your boot and take a picture? Just so I can see what it looks like and how much space it takes up.
  22. JimX

    Badged!!

That really sucks. It makes me not want to take my car out from my garage. In fact, makes me want to put a brick wall up in front of it.
  23. If you want something bigger I believe an XF Falcon throttle body can be put on with minimal hassle. This is just going off what the guys on Hills Motorsport put onto their custom plenums - you can get one with a stock TB or an XF TB, so I'm assuming it's either a straight on bolt fit or without much hassle onto the factory plenum.
  24. I don't think it would be HICAS, and definitely not if you're experiencing this below 80kph.
  25. Yeah I think I have ricephobia
