How does the Wolf go for economy? I know that the Microtech is a good unit but fuel economy is really bad because it doesn't have a closed loop mode.
-
Ok, the fuel pump isn't under that plastic thing. What a waste of an afternoon! And the ring that holds it all on is an utter bitch to get back on. I'm gonna have another look on the weekend.
-
I've found the fuel pump, but can't figure out how to get it out of there. It looks like it's held in a big screwtop thing, but I can't seem to untwist it. I tried hammering it slightly but only managed to damage the plastic Does it twist off or is there something holding it in place?
-
Someone told me that the fuel pump was accessible through a plate in the floor of the boot. I've just had a quick look and can't find it, and the fuel tank doesn't even seem to be under the boot floor anyway. I'm going to look around the HICAS area and see what I can find, but on the off-chance I can't find anything, can someone please let me know where it's located and how easy/hard it is to remove? Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't an RB26 be an easier transplant? If you got one from an R32 front cut it should be cheaper than a Neo out of an R34 too.
-
It looks like I had a bitch of an intercooler setup, because I asked how much extra it would be to fit a new intercooler at the same time and I will end up saving around $100 off the original quote! (add to that the cost of the intercooler of course) Where my current outlet is is very awkward and he said that routing the piping for it was where most of the cost was going. So it should be around $500 to fit the plenum and cooler inclusive of parts, which seems reasonable to me.

Gas has very high octane, but a lower amount of energy. So you get less power out of each stroke, but you can advance your timing more to compensate.
-
There are two main reasons why factory cars usually make less fuel on gas. Firstly, they are usually dual fuel which means they can't advance the timing as much, in order to enable it to be run on regular unleaded when needed. The second is that LPG has less energy in it than normal petrol.

Wow, that is one clean engine bay! Did you spray degreaser over everything? Like even the paint, the rubber, the plastic, etc? It all looks brand new!

Bosch 044 or 984 fuel pumps
JimX replied to JimX's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Sorry guys, just got word that I can get one only direct from Bosch (for me, and a lot cheaper than I thought ) However, I still may be able to help. Firstly, the trade price for the 044 from Repco is $355, and for the 984 it's $245. So if you can, try getting finding someone who can get trade prices from Repco and all will be sweet. Or even if you work for a company that's even semi-vaguely automotive-related you should be able to fax through an order on your employer's behalf and probably get trade prices that way. Secondly, my mate may be able to deal with Repco because his company may fall into the aforementioned category, but this would be a bit of a hassle and he'd probably want about $20 per unit for his time. So the theoretical price would be a bit more than I originally quoted, ie around $375 for the 044 and $255 for the 984. The upside to this is if he *can* do this through Repco, there will be no time limit or rush of orders needed. I should find out by Monday if he can set up an account with Repco and get the trade prices for you. But if you can deal with Repco yourself then that'll be better, it'll save some hassles and 20 bucks. Hope this has been helpful, and sorry about the original offer falling through! (it would have been a LOT cheaper than what I first quoted too ) Edit: Crap! It just gets (slightly) worse and worse! I forgot about the freight cost from Repco to my mate's work, and from there to you. Dunno what that would be but it would be added to the cost. Dealing with Repco youself is definitely going to be the best way if you can swing it but even at an extra $30-40 or so it's still going to be much cheaper than retail. -
Probably the biggest disadvantage in a Skyline is you will lose most of your boot space. The tank and equipment also adds a fair bit of weight to the car so with the same power your car will be a little bit slower. But I have seen several turbo drag cars running on gas, I think the most famous is the 11 second street-driven XE Falcon. Not too sure about this "flat out, insterstate travelling 600km to a 60 litre tank" though, I can already do that with my R33. Aside from the initial cost and extra weight I can't think of too many drawbacks. I think it's not as popular with the weekend driven cars because it takes a lot longer to recoup that initial outlay due to the relatively low amount of km done. Oh another advantage to it is you never have to worry about getting defected for emissions
-
Where can you get a fuel rail for an R33 made to fit the top feed injectors? And how much should it cost to get them ultrasonic cleaned and flow tested? The last time I got injectors cleaned I think it cost about $170 for 8, but it was a long time ago and my memory is fuzzy.

Bosch 044 or 984 fuel pumps
JimX replied to JimX's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
The last 3 digits are what everyone refers to them as. The complete part numbers are as follows: 0580254 044 0580254 984 -
Ah, good idea putting them both into the one area! Saves space and would look really schmick I reckon. Not to mention getting rid of my defectable oil breather line Do those shops you mentioned know about Skylines? Like, if I asked them about it, would they say "Yes, we can do one for you right now, and it will cost you $X." ? Thanks for the info!

Fitting a new plenum on, so I need a new custom washer bottle. Does anyone know who can make me one for a reasonable price? Doesn't have to be anything fancy.

$30k is an absolute bargain for a 12 second GTR. I am not a big fan of the R32 but if I had the money I would have snapped it up at that price and be damned happy to own it

Bosch 044 or 984 fuel pumps
JimX replied to JimX's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Hopefully by tomorrow, but almost certainly by Monday. If I can get both types I will but I don't think it's likely. -
Thanks once again Sydneykid For anyone looking at upgrading their fuel pump in the near future, please have a look at this thread I just created in the For Sale forum: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&threadid=12916

I might be able to get a limited quantity of Bosch 044 or 984 fuel pumps. Not sure on final pricing yet but they should be around $350 for the 044 and around $250 for the 984. I was originally going to get the 984, but since it's so cheap to get the 044 I'm tending towards that instead now. Anyway I was just wondering if there would be anyone interested in these at this price. If so please reply here. Please note that this is going to be a one-off! Once I have my pump that's it. The only reason I'm posting it here is because I may be able to order several at once, but they will more than likely have to be the same type. So tell me (in public please, no pm's because it becomes difficult to maintain a tally) which pump you want, and I'll probably get whatever the majority wants (but if there's not much in it, I'll go for the 044). The reason why it's a one-off is because I have a friend who deals with Bosch but not in their car parts, and Bosch don't like trading to non-auto dealers with their car parts. This is going to be a personal favour to my mate from his contact in Bosch and it won't be repeated! Escpecially since it's also a personal favour to me from him It's also entirely possible for the above reason that he can only get one (for me) so please don't get offended if this offer is suddenly withdrawn. I'm only offering this to fellow enthusiasts of this forum on the off-chance I can get more than one.

Ryan, have a look at the review of the GD55 on imobile, they point out a few flaws which have carried over from the 68 (eg, the loss of sms's when going to the main menu). Also if your 8310 is giving you hassles get the bios updated, I know of a few people that have had issues with it (eg, keypad lag, phone crashing) but it all got fixed with a bios update. If you still have problems with it and it's got the latest version try taking it back to Nokia for a replacement. I got my 8310 in January and I haven't had any of the problems that some others I know have had.
-
Yep I think the 55 is newer than the 68, so they've probably fixed a lot of the bugs in the 68. Looking at reviews it seems that it does have a much longer battery life as well, so it does seem to be a better phone all round. I just wanted to put up my story about Panasonic just so you can look out for those things on other Panasonic phones. For example, the way the menus and SMSing works.
-
Tony, you just created a paradox. You just used the words "Nismo" and "cheap" in the same sentence. Oh no, I've just done it too! I hope the universe doesn't suddenly implode.
-
I'm not trying to start another flame war here but I just wanted to tell you my experience with Panasonic anyway. I went the opposite direction. I had a Panasonic GD68 and after about 1 month I couldn't handle all the problems and quirks anymore, so I sold it and bought an 8310 I don't regret this at all, I love my 8310. Maybe the 55 is different I dunno, but here's what I can remember off-hand about the 68. 1. The colour screen is very hard to read in daylight, especially with a leather cover on it. It's dull and faded even when the lighting is good (it's an el-cheapo colour display like the 3530). 2. The clear plastic back scratches VERY easily. I took the leather cover off to help me read the display but then the back got trashed through normal usage in a matter of days. 3. The joystick/button doesn't do what you tell it to sometimes. 4. BIG lag on commands many times. 5. You can't receive Nokia business cards or text pics (with the former it comes up as a corrupted sms, with the latter the formatting is wrong) 6. The polyphonic ringtones are just about inaudible in anything other than perfect silence. I couldn't even hear it ring with my radio on in the car at a fairly quiet volume (maximum volume on phone). So I went back to a normal ringtone which is much louder. 7. Scrolling on SMSs is only one line at a time instead of a screenful like on Nokias (took me AGES to get used to this, and it still annoyed me). 8. You lose a lot of operability when you go to use all your friend's Nokia phones because all the commands are different. You keep hitting the wrong buttons on their phone and they don't know how to use your phone at all. 9. The games suck arse. 10. Battery only lasts about 2 days before needing a recharge (when I was in a low reception area once it didn't even last 24 hours) 11. The data cable cover is really flimsy, and starts to eject itself after awhile due to wear (keep in mind I only had the phone around a month!). You couldn't even get a data cable for it when I had mine. Now on the 8310 I use the IR port and a generic IR cable that works with everything 12. When replying to an SMS you can't change the recipient. 13. If you go back to the main menu while writing an SMS by hitting the red phone button you lose what you were typing forever (doesn't go into outbox or anything, and doesn't warn you you're about to lose your message). 14. Can't set it to vibrate AND ring, unless you give the silent mode an audible volume, in which case you have no silent mode. 15. Can't display your location from the phone towers on the main screen. 16. If you press a key while the screen saver is on, it doesn't display the time until it times out after a few seconds unless you have the clock as the screen saver. For this reason I never bothered with the other screensavers (they're all ugly anyway). 17. You can't disable the extended screensaver (the low-power using one). This is a "Panasonic" logo floating on a black background. So when looking at the phone in this mode you can't tell at a glance whether you've received any messages or missed any calls, you have to press a button and cancel the screen saver to see what you've missed. 18. The phone book is shitty, you can't get it to display the phone number easily if you're in certain menus (I forget which, maybe sms or when you're trying to ring someone). ie, if you have to give someone else a number, you have to go through the phone book normally and hit "display" or something. I forget now. I just know you can't do it from every menu where you can get their entry up. 19. It takes about 5 key presses to lock the keypad if you do it fast. If you do the 3 required ones fast, it won't acknowledge them all and it won't lock. Even having to press it 3 times is stupid. Damn I can't think of any more to make it a round 20! Oh well Anyway as I say, hopefully the GD55 doesn't have these problems so good luck with it.

$450 is a reasonable amount. I got quoted $400 from Hills for the same setup. I also questioned the seemingly high price here and he said it was a lot because you have about 5 mandrel bends in it which are about $60 a pop. So add in the straight bits plus labour then $400-450 seems to be not that expensive. It's because of this that I decided instead to get a new plenum that takes the pickup from the intercooler on the same side. It will cost more overall, but the tubing from the cooler to the throttle body only has 1-2 bends and is much shorter, therefore this part is much cheaper. It helps offset the cost of the plenum and I get a better setup all round. More power, less lag, cooler intake charge, etc.

Btw, since the 984 is good for up to 500hp, I think I'll go with that because my turbo only flows up to 450hp anyway. Unless the bigger 044 allows the stock injectors to flow a little better? If so I'll spend the extra $100 now so I can delay or put off indefinitely my injector upgrade. Sydneykid, help!
