  1. SK, Why do you prefer a Power FC for a manual? Is it because then you have control over the ignition maps, whereas you don't with SAFC/DFA? The benefit with a piggyback/interceptor solution is that then little 'features' present in the stock ECU (such as raising the RPM when Air Con is on, cold start fuel adjustments, etc) are retained. At least that's the case with Silvias etc (SR20). This is one of the arguments to go for Dr Drift tuning. Also, given the ECU hasn't been changed, ADR laws aren't broken, however they prolly are with an SAFC/DFA anyway
  2. SK, do you know anyone or have any opinions on these DFA/BC units on an (red top) SR20DET? What about the solenoids, can I use a SR20DET one? I've been into electronics since a kid, and so might get the book and built these kits (have seen the book around but lacking money, I didnt buy it). I have a 180sx, with exhaust and pod filter, and I have been considering getting a BadBiki daughterboard and play with the maps that way, but these Jaycar kits might be a bit easier and cheaper. I am wanting to lean out my maps a bit (some backfiring on low revs, etc). Thanks for the great information and explanations!
  3. dstylez - let us know how you go and how much it costs. I have a 180sx and cabin noise is pretty high (3" CES front/dump + 3" catback/high flow cat), and on long trips I put in the silencer to make it quieter. I am thinking of getting a muffler added before the cannon.
  4. Nah, I mean the Gekko range (http://www.the-pivot.co.jp/product/flame-gekko-e.html <- pics here). I like these ones
  5. These laws are usually set by government ministers who have had no contact or experience with young people and their cars, so they hold a largely biassed view. It's just like, I know people who are racist, and it's completely unfounded, they simply do not know anyone who is of the race they bash. I always question them and say, 'hey, if you knew any like I do, you'd know they are the nicest, most helpful caring people around'. The government is fed the bullshit bashup side of things from the media without any contact with those in the scene, and automatically assume that young people with cars faster than an excel are hoons; law flouting rebels who have no mind for other road users. If they took their head out of the sand, and talk to people like us, they'd discover that, wow, young people DO care, they ARE law abiders, and their cars are their love. I just wish the government ministers would remember they were young once too, and what they did when they were young. I'm sure there'd be some very interesting stories to tell.
  6. Thanks for that info BlackR33! You're right, there is a lot of confusion surrounding window tinting, and it's good to hear the basic facts.
  7. paulr33: Wow, really? Hrm. Can anyone else confirm this? I guess it wouldn't be the case for a stainless exhaust, but only mild steel.
  8. Bakadesu - I have a 180 with stock exhaust+pod at the moment, and oh yeah! I so know that feeling of 2500-3500rpm surge in power but after that its just flat I'm looking around for a 3" turbo back with high flow cat, cannon muffler. I'm thinking of getting the PEII from Japan, but the shipping is 50% of the actual price almost.
  9. I have one in my 180sx - it's annoying in peak hour traffic, but I hate and avoid peak hour traffic at all costs anyway But it's good for drifting (not what I do but I've been at the Skidpan day and it helps with its bitey nature). Apart from that after a bit of wear, they arent that bad .. mine shakes only a little beacuse I have found a point where it grabs slightly, like a normal clutch (and doesn't shudder) and then once the car is moving then let it go and it shakes maybe twice and then its fully engaged. As for damage, I don't think they are too bad, but I have heard from people that these clutches are 'brutally honest' in the way they work - they can put a bit of load on the flywheel/gearbox/dif, but I don't think it's too bad. You'll get used to it mate
  10. lol, thanks for that MESHMESH I honestly never done that before, not even on the roads - my 180 isn't really powerful enough in the dry and well, in the wet, I'm too wuss But I just wish there was more photos of me - only about 3 in total in both the above listed albums. Ah well - thanks again to everyone organising the event, it was a blast. I still gotta wash my car though!
  11. Yeah, thanks Rianto and Kev - had a great time. But gees I needed a good sleep after it, I was buggered! I'm looking forward to seeing other pics and videos of the event, so I'll keep my eyes open for that. Yay for Geocities ... 12. I grew up in the country on a farm, and learned to drive in a '75 Honda Civic in the paddock (was lots of fun in Winter). My dad bought me a $1000 '90 Magna as my first car and I drove that for 3 years, then got a Laser and had that for 4 years. I am now 24 and just bought myself (after working hard while saving) a '92 180sx (pretty much stock). I have learned how to drive and respect powerful cars. I have never had a speeding fine or any traffic offence. Even though this car is pretty stock, it's quite a jump compared to my Laser! Having said that, I'm amazed at the amount of younger drivers (< 20yrs) who own such high valued and powerful cars. I mean I was always taught to start from the basics and work your way up, so you appreciate what's under you as you climb. It scares me to drive on the road that there are such inexperienced drivers driving cars they cannot handle. I acknowlege that there are some who highly respect their GTR's or GTS-T's or whatever, and that's great. But seriously, I would not (even if I had the money) give my son/daughter a car like this, just for their own, and other's safety (and so they appreciate what they have). I've read every post in this thread and have found it real eye opening and inspiring to take more care on the road. I certainly will. Sometimes I've got the back end wiggling a little in the wet and I don't even like doing that, as I could so easily end up sideways on the other side of the road. I hope everyone else who has read this thread also takes something from it and will respect their powerful car more.
  13. Nice car. But your carsales link isn't working... thought you'd like to know
  14. You can keep chatting here, I think it's rather interesting. :shake::
