Means you can run an R34 GTR with the Nismo catalogue thrown at it (including 2.8L + bigger 360HP turbs) -

Merridian Motorsport have done the cage. (free plug!) http://www.mmsport.com.au/ There's a guy down there called Andrew that is their fabricator who is a very talented man (a few people from here could attest to that actually). This part should be finished in the next few days, then I'll get the front diff repaired next week and then we'll be right to apply "Ze Secret" and the car will be good to go! Hopefully make it to PI for a shake-down in Novemeber and then into bubble wrap until the end of Jan -
Thats ridiculous. Apparently Syd are doing the same with with their dealer delivery charges. I have a signed purchase agreement here in Vic for a Premium car (non metallic) at $170,518 drive away. Buy one from Melb and do your 1,000km run in across the Nulla! (Mind you I'd heard they may have now sold allocations out until 2011 here)

Cage is finished (other than the padding and putting the interior back together). Geez I'm wrapped with how neatly it has all come back together. Sure it could have been lighter, but it doesn't look or feel like it has lost it's "street car"ness at all which is what I really wanted. I'm very happy with the work thats been done indeed. -
I feel like I have some form of kinship with Frosty so I hope him and Richo (which was my school nickname!) get up.

And thats not even the biggest rule change as far as I'm concerned -
The Toyo's are definitely good in the wet and they also come up to temp amazingly fast (for sprints your out lap is almost your fastest lap) but they don't have the absolute grip of the others but maybe in a rally they'd be good? They are also funny in that people say they get faster as they get worn down too.
-
I think the Lambo guys mainly use the Toyo's right? But otherwise there is the Pirelli Corsa and Michelins Sport Cups. None of them are as good as the Dunlop/Bridgestone/Kuhmo semi's (which don't come in 19's I'm pretty sure) but they have to be better than street tyres.
-
Yeah but I also read somewhere (it was on the internet so it must be true!) that Nissan have even stated that they know the R35 is FASTER with smaller wheels but fo physical symetry they were forced to run with 20's. So the question is if you can get better rubber for 19's and it's known the car is faster on 19's then why the hell wouldn't you get a set to use when you CAN run 19's?

I still don't get what the fuss is about?? Am I missing something? Most of it is INFORMATION such as: The Nissan GT-R's rotors are cross-drilled with six-piston front and four-piston rear floating calipers, helping to achieve excellent stopping performance and fade resistance. The rotors are not designed to be machined, therefore, all four sets of brake pads and rotors should be replaced at the same time. This is normal maintenance for this vehicle. Ok so it tells me that when it comes time to replace rotors you'll probably need to replace all 4. As I said that is just "information" and nothing to do with warranty. There is other information to tell you which is the right fluids / oils to use and thats not a bad thing to know! Again - gearbox noise. How many people here have driven a high speed DCT gearbox before? I'm guessing most people who buy one of these things haven't so letting people know beforehand that they "clunk" especially 1st-2nd is just information on what you can expect. Again the "track" stuff I had clarified by Nissan today. The disclaimer states "The Nissan GT-R warranty provides you with extensive coverage including for proper operation in accordance with the Owners Manual, but your warranty excludes coverage for racing." What that means is if you have a competition number on your car. It does NOT mean attending a race track. Nissan will even be putting 2 track days a year per state on for owners. I mean when you order the car you have to state whether you want the camber set up for track or street. Again if you want it set up for track there is another disclaimer to state you know the inner edges of the tyres will wear faster. For me this document is just Nissans way of making sure buyers know what they are getting before the thing arrives and people suddenly start whinging at what it takes to maintain something this technically advanced. Maybe it's because there is nothing in there that I don't already kinda follow with the R34 - except I'm substituting Nissan Performance Centre with Racepace (who incidently doesn't offer me a warranty when racing either! LOL)

Um.... he imported one himself and then got someone with access to 25 complience plates (who have been posted on here 11ty times already) to comply it. If this is what anyone really wants to do I'd suggest giving them a call and seeing if they will do the same and for how much and work backwards from there

Um.... run 19's (since you can)

The guys at Mountain Motorsports seem to be upto some stuff. A proposed 3 day event on Pinnacle Rd - Mt Wellington (Hobart) over Australia Day weekend and another new Vic based event that will apparently be "the longest tarmac hillclimb sprint in the world". NFI where though as they say it will be 3hrs out of Melbourne which puts Hotham / Great Alpine Rd out of the question. http://www.mountainmotorsports.com.au/pdf/mmnews_aug08.pdf -

Surely you can think of a few more events between now and next June Ben other than Mt Buller -
If the Australian government was smart they'd arrange to run more rallies all over the country because you can be sure it would be a fail safe way to end our draughts. Because it seems nothing ever brings on the rain like a rally! Good work to all but especially to you Russ for getting to the end of your 1st one. I take it you found it a little more challenging than driving around some cones?
-
If you think this one is bad look up the Veyron agreement! To me there is nothing too bad in that agreement. Most of it is information to help buyers understand what they are getting. The only thing is says really is to keep your warranty you MUST do the 1000km, 12,24 and 36 month service at Nissan (others required services are just recommended at Nissan but not required), you can't moddify the car (all cars are like that) and you can't RACE the car (*you can take it to the track however. There is a difference).

Toyo are supposed to be releasing an R Comp (R888's) for the R35 at the SEMA motorshow in November apparently. I must say I've never thought the Toyo's were much chop on heavier cars like normal GTR's but given these were pretty much specifically designed for this car for the US market they might be ok (and surely will be better than what the options are now). Anyways despite the small issues it sounds like from the text mssages that the boys are having some fun so thats all that matters.
-
Well I have to say that I drove one of these things yesterday (Thanks Jeff) and even with the $150K price tag it leaves everything else in it's competition behind in my opinion. It really was such a quality car to drive - much nicer IMO than the new E92 M3 or RS4. The only thing I've driven that comes close is the Audi R8 which has a $288K tag and yet still isn't as usable as this thing.
-
Ok I've seen it, driven it and fallen in love with it. It really is a fantastic car. And DAMN fast. Big thanks to Jeff for the opportunity.
-
Interesting. I've now heard 5 different drive away prices from 5 different dealers ranging in upto $15K. Not sure how much of those differences is state based tax reasons but it might be worth shopping around....

Geez - 70 confrimed entries already for Wrest Point and 200 for Targa Tas. And all the other people I know that are apparently doing Wrest Point aren't aren't even on the list yet. Well done to all the guys at Octogon. -
You can also ask how come a Pontiac G8 sells in the states for US$29,300 and yet the Commodore SS which it is based on sells here for AUD$53,900 and yet Holden are protected against import traffis that Nissan aren't. There is no point in comparing what we pay against what the US pay for cars. You really can only compare what we pay for cars here against other cars here. So the question should be is the R35 worth say the same as an M3 or RS4 because that's the market its against. (Check out M3 prices in that US as well). You can also ask is this car worth twice as much as the new EXO X MR SST? I dunno personally yet but I hope to drive one soon and find out the answer.
