  1. Not that I know much about Carrera Cup cars, but as I understand it, the 997 was simply more competition focused model, although both are an evolution of a road car shell with mods, the 996 was less improved. The 997 has a squential gearbox instead of H-pattern, MoTeC logging, not sure if it's MoTeC ECU though, brakes, suspension and many other improvments over the 996.
  2. Yeah I few mates who looked at 996 Cups have ended up buying 997 Cups and they're happy with running costs compared to what they were told to expect with a 996, but I prefer the 996's styling... was great fun running the dirty ol' GTSt again Garwood's 996 back in 2004's state championship, the Porka note sounded awesome over the RB20 engine whine!
  3. Great stuff, it's very cool to have such awesome cars in our local championship considering how far removed we are from Europe. I do keep comparing the current spend on my RX-7 race car to what a 996 Carrera Cup car could be had for, but as light as my usage would be I'm still deterred by engine and gearbox rebuilt costs!
  4. marlin - eat me! 2pee - a lack of room is the same in the case of my rx-7 too with it's new v-mount, so the dry cell is going in the car, but just with a cover over the terminals. just do what you think is the best solution from as health and safety point of view, then shoot helen an email with pics so it can be considered by the chief scruit pre-event so no suprises arise at the scrutiny check.
  5. Not sure where that wording is from 2pee, but regulations for CAMS Australian Targa Championship event say: "The battery may be replaced, and or relocated to any position, provided that it is located within an appropriate battery box and securely mounted. If mounted in the cockpit, it must be behind the front seat and of dry cell in construction. A blue triangle of sides 150mm indicating the location of the battery must be placed on the vehicle." The wording could be tweaked re the box to be more general as individual setups define if a box is actually required, but I personally don't think the reg is very demanding as a cover of some kind is never a bad idea if its inside the car from a shorting point of view, in the case of working on the car, or in an off when something could come loose and touch the terminals and create an unwanted spark. For all the messing about though, why not leave the battery where it is... and run a lithium carbon fibre battery such as what my company sells? If you know how much of a weight-nazi Tony Sullens is then you might be surprised to know he left his battery in the OEM location and I sold him a 1.7kg lithium carbon fibre battery, the car would have run the 1kg version, but I was concerned it might not fire on E85 in Strahan on Leg 5 if it was too cold!... he came fouth outright from memory
  6. Weeksie's Ford GT GT3 was purchased out of Asia, the previous owner ordered it built from new, did 12 laps a Sepang and apparently so scared of it he put it straight on the market! Looks awesome in white, but will no doubt look very sharp in black once it's ready to roll.
  7. Can't wait 'till you're bored of it at the end of November 2013 and I buy it!
  8. Very true Woo, but from a circuit POV the fastest car within the TAS Sport GT state catagory at the moment is an big turbo R32 GTS-t and previously a very nice S14... further to RX-7s, GT-Rs and 911s. The FD has a lot going for it and is perhaps the better choice, but I still have a soft spot for the those two RWD Nissan's.
  9. I too loved my R32 GT-R tarmac rally/race car and moved to an FD RX-7 as every bit of research confirmed that it was going to be more cost effective for similar end performance at both circuit racing and tarmac rallying. As Jason points out you do give up time in a standing start, but depending on the type of events you want to do starting is only one part of the race. Compared to a GT-R the RX-7 is a more cost effective car to buy in good condition and prepare the chassis, simpler to maintain, and is cheaper to repair both mechanic and body issues... providing the car is well set up by rotary knowledgeable people, and with the correct support systems for the power level you want you will enjoy good reliability. I'm on the tail end of my RX-7 build and very happy with it... although had I developed my old 200SX or old GTS-t to a similar level of spend as my RX-7 the end result would no doubt be comparable in performance.
  10. Key word is Stradale... not Strata!
  11. In therory the GTS-R is! Surely a 2 door, turbo version of the R31 would've come out in the November 1985 release? Then under the international competition panels rule you could put on the aero kit as it was used for Group A and Classic has a lot of modification tollerence so you'd actually produce a far far better car than any genuine GTS-R.
  12. well there you go... and i assumed no body read the rules! renter? nah couldn't be bothered with that again. rx-8s love to heat efficiencies of e85 so they won't be changing
  13. PPS. Supaloc Classic Targa Adelaide starts on Wednesday, will be tricky to see the battle between Weeksie and Quinny in some older but still fast equipment! http://www.classictargaadelaide.com.au/
  14. There is only one CAMS Australian Targa Championship PS. Still got the FD? Whip me through those pics if you do mate.
  15. Standard Monday then!
  16. All you need's a good Evo 6.5 and your laughing!
  17. Diprose Bodyworks in Derwent Park do work for me all the time and produce good work.
  18. Yes mate, back and full steam into it... big targa season ahead and plenty of teams doing work in the off season and everyone beating on the door. White Hot, Supaloc, VIP, Just Jap and Yellow Racing to name only a few have all have plenty of work underway. More new bits arrivng for the RX-7 too, and confirmed my nav while I was away for Rally Tas 2012 too!
  19. Just one... you're in a class of your own Woo!!
  20. Timmy - Pulse mate, no converter. Ben - Shoot me through the email again mate, can't find anything. Mark - Good to hear you ended up in a GT-R... shame you didn't get an RX-7 though!
  21. PS. Cool car, I saw it on the net and called wanting to buy it two days after you'd paid for it... it reminded me of my old black one.
  22. I sent a fax off to Nissan Japan to get confirmation of my old V-Spec II being genuine and I got a return fax confirming it within a few hours.
  23. TK80 - My company is an agent for Monit and Terratrip. Can look after you on both and we offer discounts for Targa entrants!... the Monit is a massive improvment over Terra from every angle and we can supply wheel, eletronic speedo and GPS probe options. Roy - You know you need a rotor...
  24. 82. Sump / Oil Filter (except Showroom) The removable section of the sump maybe modified to increase capacity and internal baffles may be fitted. Sump pickups maybe modified to allow for modified sump depth. The oil filter element/cartridge/s is free, providing the cartridge fits without modification and does not perform any function other than filtering the oil.
